Calculating the correct draft date is extremely important. Since most premiums are paid by an ACH debit to
the insured's account, you must understand how it works. A miscalculation can cause a cancellation. We
receive numerous complaints because the first debit occurred before the date the policyholder expected. Often
the results are overdraft charges and cancellation.

It’s important to note we don’t have issue dates or draft dates of the 29th, 30th, and 31st. Should one of those
dates be requested, the 1st will be used. We also can’t draft more than 14 days past the policy due date, so
the policyholder may be expecting the first after the due date and we will actually bill the first before the due
date. (This will happen if the first after is more than 14 days past the policy due date).

For your convenience, the above chart covers each application date and each acceptable choice of draft dates
based on the application date and whether the draft will occur before or after the due date.

Know the procedures. Don’t leave the applicant’s home until they fully understand when the first draft will be
drawn. Use the chart to insure that there are no surprises for your client.
