Japan’s Labour Welfare

Japan’s Labour welfare comes under the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, which is
a cabinet level ministry of the Japanese government.
The Constitution of Japan guarantees fundamental labour rights. These are: the right and obligation to
work (Art. 27 para.1), the prohibition of child labour (Art. 27 para. 3), and the freedom of workers'
association - the right to organise, bargain, and act collectively (Art. 28).
Individual labour law stipulates that salaries, hours of work, rest, and other working conditions are set
by law (Art. 27 para. 2).
