PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

My organization name is the US Army. I have been a member of this organization for
most of my adult life. Actually, I joint when I was 19 years old and I am now 42 years
old. Therefore, been part of the organization for 22 years. My organization is a federal
organization designed to serv and protect the people of the United State from all enemies:
both foreign and domestic. The organization is currently composed of 472,000 members
serving both active duty and reserve (Department of Defense, 2017). The Army has three
compositions: the Active duty, National Guard, and Reserve.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

My current role in the Army is as a Operations Noncommission Officer (OPS NCO). As

an OPS NCO I am a program manager. I manage future missions both training and real
world. The scope of my responsibilities and to ensure that 120 soldiers have all the tools
and resources they need in order to successfully complete their mission if ever called to
action. My main role is to the welfare of my unit and to ensure they have realistic training
which they may draw on if they are ever put in harm’s way.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

The Army is currently trying to catch with the times by introducing virtual simulation in
to Advance Individual Training (AIT). AIT is the school where a soldier learns how to do
their job. However, the Army is moving away from realistic hand on training to a more
virtual platform training base. The Army is doing this for several reason:

1
1. To make training available for young soldiers to get refresher while back at their
respective home stations
2. To take advantage of skill already utilized by young people and convert them into
training tools
3. To save money by not having to spend any money on equipment for young soldier to
break while learning

However, the class of soldiers coming out of those courses are not in par with the skills they
should already have. In fact, sergeants (SGT) at their home stations are having to take time
from teaching advance level training to teach the young soldiers skills they should already
possess.
