Requirements Analysis - Summary
From Problem to Solution
• Requirements arise from (business) needs related to a
problem (domain)
• Requirements both capture the need (goals) and
describe the solution based on the domain analysis and
information collection
• Behavioral modelling shows details on how the solution
works (what is has) in order to reach the goals
Behavioral Modelling
• The solution is modeled based on the requirements
resulting in explicit models describing the solution
• Modelling shows, for example, the interactions between
users and the solution in order to reach a specific goal –
that is, to fullfill specific requirements
Domain Analysis & Information Collection
• In domain analysis, the stakeholders and relevant
consepts such as terms, processes, roles, functions and
rules are clarified in order to gain understanding of both
the problem and the domain it is in (the playing field)
• Relevant information is gathered using, for example,
documents, interviews, questionnaires, observation and
field trips
Requirements
• Based on the domain analysis, the requirements are
written out
• Requirements describe the functional and non-
functional aspects the solution must, should or could
have
