Speaking

1. In the past, people usually stayed in one place throughout their life. These days, people
often move around. They often live in several different places in their lifetime. Pros and
cons?

In the past, it was common for people to be born, grow up, live and die in the same place.
I believe that living in one place has its advantages. People were always close to their family and their
friends. In small communities, people knew everyone well and help each other more. There was a
real community spirit.
However, there were disadvantages as well. For example, people probably got bored easily and there
would not have been many job opportunities. When you argued with someone, you still had to see
them every day. It would be difficult to get away from them.
Now, people are more mobile. People move from place to place much more. They can learn more
about the world and enjoy experiences that they wouldn’t have had if they stayed in one place. They
can also meet more people, have better job opportunities. The main disadvantages are that people
can lose touch with their family and it can be difficult to make new friends.
There are clear advantages and disadvantages to the way people lived in the past and now. I
wouldn’t like to live in the same place all my life. However, I know some people who have done this
and they are perfectly happy.
1. Describe a historical event that you like the most

Honestly speaking, every time I am asked about history, I am always eager to

talk about the Vietnam war, which ends in 1975 and is one of the historical
highlights of our country. Vietnam has undergone hundreds of years of under the
colonization of foreign invaders and this is the last war before a new era of peace
and independence is opened for us.
It is an unforgettable period of history for some reasons. Firstly, it is the
courageous fighting spirit of the Vietnamese people. Our country was divided into
the Northern part and the Southern part. Communication was almost impossible at
that time and people across the country are living in poverty and destitute
conditions. However, our soldiers still fought bravely with the support of ordinary
people.
Secondly, this is remarkable because hardly anyone could think that we
could win the war. When compared to such a well-armed country like America, it is
hard to think that we could defeat them. However, with the determination of the
whole nation. We have our peace. 30/4/1975 was the date that we gained
independence from invaders and from then on, we have held an annual celebration
to pay tribute to those who sacrificed for the country. I hope that the Vietnamese
people will never forget this important event of the nation.
2. Describe a person you admire.
- Who
- Whar she like
- Why

I'm going to talk about my mother because she has been a major influence in my life. My
mother was always a good role model for me.
She is hard-working, patient and understanding. She’s also got a good sense of humor and
seems to get on well with everybody. Hopefully, I’ve inherited some of these traits.
I admire my mother because I think she brought me and my brother up well. She was quite
strict but always fair.
She has always been someone I can turn to for advice. I think my mother set a good example
by working hard and having a positive outlook on life.
3. Describe a website that you often use.
- What type of website it is
- How did you find out about it
- What it allows you to do
- Why do you find it useful

Facebook is a social networking website. It’s a free website that allows you to keep in
contact with friends or find people you’ve lost touch with. It’s one of the most popular
websites in the world, with millions of users in different countries. All of my friends use
Facebook.
Facebook allows you to keep up to date with what friends are doing. You have a profile
page with information and status updates so that you can tell everyone what you’re doing.
You can upload photos and videos.
I find Facebook most useful for organizing my life, keeping in touch with friends, and
storing photos.
I think social networking websites have become part of everyday life.

4. Describe a subject that you think should be removed from school education
programs
- What
- Why
- Replace

I'm going to suggest that art could be taken out of the school curriculum.
There are a few reasons why I think that school art lessons are unnecessary.
Firstly, I don’t believe that drawing and painting are essential skills that children will need
when they leave school. Children might find these activities enjoyable, but it’s unlikely
that they will need them in the working world.
Secondly, children can draw, paint during their time at home. Parents can encourage this,
and they can even join in.
Finally, remembering my art lessons at school, I don’t think we learned any real art skills.
The teachers left us to draw, but they didn’t provide much technical instruction.
Instead of art lessons, children could do more work on core subjects like maths, science or
language. These subjects are more likely to help children in later life.

5. Describe an interesting advertisement

- Where you saw
- What it about
- Why

I'm going to talk about an advertisement for Coca-cola, which is one of the biggest brands
in the world. I’ve seen Coke advertisements everywhere, on posters, TV commercials, on
the internet. The advert shows a picture of Santa Claus smiling and holding a bottle of
Coke.
I think the aim is to target children and associate the brand with Christmas time. The
advert is interesting because the company is deliberately trying to influence and attract
children. The marketers are trying to capture young customers. They are presenting the
drink as something special, a gift for Christmas.
However, Coca-cola is not necessarily a healthy drink for children. It contains a lot of
sugar. Maybe this kind of advertising manipulates children and encourages them to pester
their parents.

6. Describe a situation that made you angry

- When
- What
- How you felt

A recent situation that made me angry was getting stuck in a traffic jam on the way to
meet some friends. It was last Sunday lunchtime, and I didn’t expect there to be much
traffic, people don’t work on Sunday, so the roads aren't usually very busy.
Everything was going well until suddenly I saw a queue of cars on the road in front of me.
I had no choice but to join the queue and wait. It turned out that was caused by some
roadworks, and it took me an extra 30 minutes to get past them.
Getting stucks in traffic congestions doesn’t usually make me angry, but this time it did,
mainly because I wasn’t expecting it and I knew that my friends were waiting to meet me
for lunch. I felt frustrated and powerless because there was nothing I could do to change
the situation, and I had no idea how long would be sitting there waiting.

7. Talk about a time when you had to work very hard to achieve a goal.

I’m the type of person who never likes to rely on luck. I believe that everything can only be
achieved through hard work and determination, and my final year in high school was one of the
times that I put an effort to achieve my goal.
At that time, I was still a senior student and as the other students, passing the University entrance
exam to get into my dream university was my main goal. But for me, I felt that the pressure was
even higher since I had chosen NEU- one of the top Universities in Vietnam. There are
thousands of students taking part in that exam every year so it is highly competitive.
To compete with other students, every day I wake up at 4 am and go to bed at noon, I spend
almost time studying. In addition to studying in my class, I also search for materials on the
internet by myself. It was a long process with a lot of hard work but I was willing to put in a lot
of effort for that dream and not let anything stop me from achieving it.
So in the end, all the hard work paid off, and I passed the entrance exam with pretty high results
and became an auditing student. When I received the results I was so happy. All of my hard work
for the year had helped me achieve one of my big goals in life.
