SILENT
MAGAZINE

EDITION 3
DEAR READER,

Exactly one year ago, during the end of 2020, we published the very
first edition of our SILENT Magazine. Back then, the feedback was so
positive that we decided to continue to release an update on a bi-
yearly basis.

Here we are now, with the third edition of our SILENT Magazine for
the Christmas time of 2021. As the festive season provides a great
opportunity to reflect, we took the chance to collect all the news and
highlights from the past couple of months.

It is always astonishing for us to look back and see how many

memorable moments and exciting developments have taken place in
the world of SILENT-YACHTS in a relatively short period of time. The
launch of our first SILENT 60, the world premiere of the SILENT 100
and the opening of our new offices in Port Adriano, Mallorca and Fort
Lauderdale, Florida, surely have been three of the highlights of this
year. Being able to welcome hundreds of guests at our new premises
who were excited to learn all about solar powered yachting brought a
smile to our faces every single day. Therefore, it is of no surprise that
our entire crew, which has grown tremendously throughout this year, is
eager to return on board once the season gets going again next year.

While 2021 without a doubt was a successful one for our company,
we have even bigger plans for 2022. With the
launch of our first SILENT 80 and SILENT 80 3-Deck, we aim to take
solar powered yachting to the next level.

Until then, please enjoy the content of this magazine.

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year,

& the SILENT-crew.

The philosophy driving the development of the SILENT

100 Explorer was a homage back to the days when
the brave were constantly seeking unknown horizons
- the same way it took an unbroken adventurous spirit
to explore the seven seas, it took a lot of courage to
envision and develop a 100 ft solar powered yacht which
would be beyond anyone’s imagination.

After the SILENT 80, renowned yacht designer Marco

Casali is also responsible for the spectacular appearance
of the SILENT 100 Explorer. The goal of this new project
was to bring the solar powered SILENT experience to the
superyacht level.

The solar array can produce up to 40 kWp, which is 4x as

much as the SILENT 55 (10 kWp). The energy harnessed
from the sun is then stored in advanced lithium batteries
with a maximum capacity of up to 800 kWh. It is the
largest battery bank ever installed on a SILENT, offering
the possibility to store almost double the amount
of energy compared to the SILENT 80 (429 kWh). In
combination with twin electric motors (340 kW each),
the SILENT 100 Explorer has an economic speed of 6-8
knots, a cruising speed of 10 knots and a top speed of
14-16 knots. Depending on the specification, two or three
efficient diesel generators provide back-up power to
recharge the batteries whenever needed.

The SILENT 100 Explorer will be the first yacht in our

fleet to offer four decks. With the help of a special sliding
mechanism, the solar panels on the hardtop can move
apart - revealing a sun deck which can also be used as a
touch and go helipad.

As a catamaran with an LOA (length overall) of 30 m, she boasts enormous

amounts of space for all guests on board. In fact, the indoor and outdoor
living space is equivalent to that of a monohull measuring between 40 m to
50 m in length.

In comparison to the SILENT 80 3-Deck (Open Version), the exterior space

on deck of the SILENT 100 is significantly larger (195 m2 vs 351 m2), while the
interior space has been more than doubled (183 m2 vs 421 m2).

Such an abundance enables the SILENT 100 to be fitted with a hot tub set
up for sunbathing with a panoramic balcony over the transom, a bar as well
as a breakfast table in the open aft area of the main deck. The closed aft is
devoted to a spacious salon and dining area.

Five en suite guest cabins, which are located in the front of the main deck
and in the starboard hull, make sure everybody can get comfortable when
staying on board for longer periods of time.

The enormous full-beam master stateroom with a private office is located in

the front of the main deck as well. With 51 m2, it is almost twice as large as
the master cabin on the SILENT 80 (27 m2).

KITE SAIL SYSTEM

Deploying the kite sail system is a

simple process. The first step is to
mount the mast with the help of four
shrouds to the pad eyes on deck
(on future deliveries the mast will be
mounted on a baseplate inside the
locker to leave the foredeck
clutterfree). Then, the kite is inflated
and released overboard to drift away on
the surface of the water. The next step
is pulling on the lines, which launches
it into the air. Once the kite reaches
optimal flight height, which is usually at
around 80 m, it begins to trace a figure
“8’ in the sky and generate power to
pull the yacht.

While the height plays a role, the

most important factor determining
the performance is the actual angle.
Depending on the conditions, it
usually is beneficial to fly the kite at a
15 to 20 degrees angle. The range for
ideal operations is in-between wind
speeds of 10 and 30 knots.

Bringing the kite back down is done

by reversing the process. Before it is
electrically winched down for storage,
the automated app controls move the
kite to a position above the boat where
its pull is at a minimum.

KITE SAIL SYSTEM

As such, the kite sail system perfectly complements the solar electric drive
train of our yachts, especially to make use of windy conditions during
longer crossings. Last but not least, besides being incredible useful, it is also
a lot of fun!

If you would like to see how our SILENT

60 #1 deploys the kite sail system and
cruises along the coastline of Mallorca
with the help of the wind, scan the
QR code to watch the video:

Controlling the kite in mid-air is straightforward. Similar to

a kite surfing system, there are three lines: one for taking
all the force and two for the steering. The user can choose
between a joystick control for manual operation, or an
autopilot mode that flies the figure “8” on its own after the
kite has been positioned. Sensors on the kite and the mast
make it possible to fine-tune its position to fly lower or
higher whenever needed.

The kite is delivered with a 150 m line. Optionally,

customers can also choose to upgrade the size of the kite
from 9 m2 to 13 m2. However, as described above, even
the smaller kite is able to provide sufficient pulling power
for the SILENT 60. The system is available for all SILENT-
YACHTS models.

AFTER OUR SILENT 55 WON THE BEST OF

When considering the number

of participating countries, jury
members and media, the Best
of Boats Award is the most
significant award for motorboats
in Europe. Worldwide, it is a
respected seal of quality in leisure
boating. What differentiates
this award from others is their
unique approach towards testing
and their categorization of the
vessels. Instead of classifying them
according to length, the Best of
Boats Award is focused on the
boater’s point of view. As a result,
all categories are defined by reallife
use cases which correspond to
the target groups of the individual
boats, such as for example “Best

In the end, we are excited to report that our

SILENT 60 was awarded with the BOB Award in
the category “Best for Travel”.

According to their definition, a travel boat should

be suitable for long distance travels with all
amenities to live onboard permanently, adapted
to inland waters and the tough conditions at sea.

With more space, more performance and higher peak

energy production than the SILENT 55, our SILENT 60
is even better equipped for such undertakings.

Our thank you goes out to all the organizers of

the event, as well as the media partners and the
jury. It is always a great feeling to receive a token
of recognition and appreciation from experts of
the industry.

Developed by the experienced high-tech engineering division of the LG

Group, Hi-Macs is a sustainable solid surface material. As a composition
between acryl, minerals and natural pigments, this material creates a
smooth, non-porous, thermoformable and visually seamless surface. It
can be molded into basically any shape and is manufactured in an energy
efficient process which is very economical with its resources. There are
no ozone depleting or other harmful substances produced during the
manufacturing of Hi-Macs.

Surfaces created by using this acrylic stone are completely free of harmful
heavy chemicals and VOC emissions - these Volatile Organic Compounds
(VOC) are gases emitted by a variety of solids and liquids which may have
negative effects on human health. Furthermore, Hi-Macs is also free of
nanoparticles, which pollute the environment. All these characteristics
contribute to the fact that interiors finished with this phenomenal surface
have high levels of room quality, guaranteed by international credentials such
as the Greenguard Gold Indoor Air Quality Certificate (it ensures that products
are low in chemical emissions and have no negative impact on interior air
quality). In terms of processing, off cuts of the material can be easily used for
other projects, helping to reduce waste to a minimum. It is also a very durable
material, which is highlighted by 15 years of warranty. This long product
lifecycle of course further reduces the production of waste. On board of
our yachts, Hi-Macs can be used to cover a variety of indoor applications,
regardless if it is in the cabins, bathrooms, cockpit, salon or the kitchen.

Based on state-of-the-art Japanese engineering, Ultrafabrics create the next

generation of luxury materials. As innovative market leaders, their expertise
lies in the development and production of intelligent and animal-cruelty free
fabrics that combine high performance functionality, comfort, sustainability,
and durability in a variety of design styles.

All their products are free from environmentally harmful PVCs

(Polyvinylchlorid Plastics) and plasticizers. The organization has been
reducing their impact on the environment through the use of renewable
and recycled materials. In addition, Ultrafabrics are also committed to
reducing and reusing water during production. Through a new distillation
process, they were able to reduce their total freshwater use and save up to
3.2 million gallons of fresh water (or roughly five Olympic size swimming
pools) annually. As they also source 100% of their materials for their mills
in Japan from local suppliers, Ultrafabrics also consciously reduces the
environmental footprint from transportation. Their vision of pioneering
innovative materials that conserve resources and protect the well-being
of people and the planet perfectly matches our eco-friendly approach to
yachting. As a result, their fantastic vegan Ultraleather can be used to fit all
seating options on board of our yachts, both indoors and outdoors.

Established in Denmark in 1968, Kvadrat is a unique textile design company

deeply rooted within its Scandinavian traditions. They continuously push the
boundaries of their interior textiles regarding their aesthetics, technological
as well as functional properties, all with a holistic sustainable approach. It
considers all stages of the process – from sourcing of raw materials and
processing to textile design and production, to actual usage as well as
afterlife re-purpose. Their European weaving mills in England, Norway and
the Netherlands give them tighter control on emissions, waste and resource
use throughout the entire sourcing and manufacturing cycle.

All raw materials used are carefully selected to minimize their impact on
the environment. An additional aspect setting Kvadrat apart from other
approaches in the field of textiles is their belief that longevity is at the core
of sustainable design. For this reason, most of their textiles come with a
10-year warranty. Hence, Kvadrat is the perfect partner for all interior textile
applications on board of a SILENT.

GERFLOR FLOORING

Specialized in flooring solutions, Gerflor are the makers of innovative

ecoresponsible solutions for interior finishes, including marine applications.
All their production sites are ISO 14001 certified, which means they
meet the highest standards in the areas of efficient use of resources and
reduction of waste, keeping the overall environmental impact of the
organization at a minimum. Their flooring solutions are composed of
sustainable and 100% recyclable materials without the use of any heavy
metals and harmful solvents, while their innovative installation system is free
of adhesives. The combination of these aspects results in the elimination
of carcinogenic emission and high levels of indoor air quality. In coherence
with our vision of sustainable luxury, the Gerflor vinyl tiles used on our
yachts provide the touch and look of authentic woods such as teak, oak or
walnut, without the need to cut down actual trees.
