CONTRIBUTIONS OF MUSLIM SCIENTISTS

MUHAMMAD IBN ZAKARIYA AL-RAZI

INTRODUCTION:
 Muhammad ibn Zakariya al Al-Razi was born in 854 CE in Ray,
Iran and died in 932-925 in Ray, Iran.
 Al-Razi was the greatest scholar & scientist of medieval Islamic Era.
 Al-Biruni also considered Al-Razi as his mentor.
 He was considered as “The father of Psychology & Psychotherapy”.
CONTRIBUTION:.
 He gave descriptions on small pox, how it looks, what is it, and how
to prevent it.
 He compared the outcome of meningitis treated with bloodletting.
 He also worked in pharmacy creating many instruments like:
Mortars, flasks, spatula and phials.
 He also compiled the text of early practitioners in Pharmacy.
 He introduces the use “mercurial ointments”.
BOOKS & NOVELS:
 KITAB AL HAWI: This book was based on Gynecology, Obstetrics &
Opthalmic surgery.
 THE DISEASE OF CHILDREN: The first monograph to deal with
pediatric as separate field of medicine.
 KITAB AL JUDARI WA AL HASBAH:This book was based on
measles & chicken pox, there causes and how to prevent it.
