How the Knot is Tied-Twine Baler

To get a better understanding Of the operation of
your baler and the importance of the various adjust-
ments in this manual, an understanding of the tying
cycle of the baler is important. This illustrates and
describes the knotter action at various stages of one
complete knot formation.

3. The billhook (E) starts its revolution when the

gear teeth on the intermittent knotter gear haveoper-
ated the disk driving pinion and turned the disk suffi-
ciently to permit the twine holder (8) to secure both
strands of twine in the disk (A).

A-Twine Disk 8-Twine Holder

1. After the needl.e has been threaded, the end of

toe twine is held in the twine disk (A) by the twine
holder (8). As the bal~ is formed, it pulls twine from
the twine box.

F~Knife G-Needle

4. As thebillhook turns, it forms a loop of twine

around the hddkand the jaw opens to receive the
twine. The knife (F) advances ready to cut the twine
between the bill hook and disk.

NOTE: At this stage, the needle (G) begins to re-

C-Needle D-Knife Arm E-Billhook cede-leaving twine in the disk which will be held
there for the next knot.
2. When the bale reaches its proper length the
measuring wheel trips the tying mechanism and the
needle (C) (with the help of the tucker finger) brings
the second strand of twine through the guide on the
knife arm (0) across the bill hook and into the twine
disk (A).

ADJUSTING KNOTTER GEARS-· ADJUSTING BEVEL GEAR AND PINION

TWINE BALER -WIRE BALER

The bevel gears must be adjusted to mesh properly

and have even heel alignment with the pinions on the
twister shafts.

pinion is not flush with the intermittent knotter gear.
Adjust the intermittent knotter gear (8) flush against
billhook pinion (A) .by shifting washers on the needle lift
shaft. Remove knotter and shaft assembly and add
washers, as shown, to gain additional adjustment:
With intermittent knottergear (8) flush with bill hook
pinion (A), the adjusting washers (F) between the
intermittent gear and theknotter frame must be free to
rotate by hand but having a'maximum gap of 0.030"
(0.76 mm).

To eliminate tooth breakage and insure proper

mesh, the flat side of the gripper drive pinion must
be flush to 0.010-inch (0.25 mm) maximum clear-
ance from the smooth surface of the intermittent
drive gear.

Adjust gears by removing pin in needle lift shaft and

locating washers on shaft as necessary to get proper
mesh. Replace the pin in the shaft.
