1. What are the contributions of Pres. Cory Aquino?

-President Cory Aquino restored the democracy of the Republic of the Philippines by
abolishing its legislature. She appointed the 1987 Philippine Constitution which is still being
used in the present. She also broke up monopolies held by Marcos’s allies that resulted to an
experienced growth of economy in the next several years.

2. What are her problems during her term?

- Her popularity has steadily declined as she was unable to carry out fundamental
economic or social reforms and faced constant protests of economic inequality and political
corruption. These problems were exacerbated by the ongoing war between the Communists
and the army whose loyalty to Aquino was uncertain. In general, their economic policies have
been criticized for being mixed and upset in the face of massive poverty.

3. How did President Cory Aquino fight the insurgency of CPP NPA NDF?

- The CPP, NPA, and NDF were the strongest in the 1980s when the oppressive
Ferdinand Marcos administration collapsed and was replaced by the Corazon Aquino
administration. The uprising became a social movement, with many ground groups intertwined
with underground guerrilla forces. In the early 1990s, a combination of rebellion suppression
operations and internal divisions caused the organization to malfunction, sacrificing many
supporters.

4. Read the letter of her vice president Laurel and understand deeply.

-Vice President Laurel’s letter contained information about how President Cory Aquino
failed to fulfill her promise to give the Philippines a better tomorrow. Vice President Laurel also
mentioned that the so called, “New Moral Order”, since it has become a paradise for assassins
and thieves. Furthermore, VP Laurel added that, “Corruption, betrayal of public trust, and other
serious crimes have been thrown at you, including impeachment charges.”, of which even her
chief ally in congress have already consigned to the archives.
