Tokyo

Introduction

Tokyo is situated in Japan’s coastal plain, located on the main coast of the island japanese
archipelago, called Honshu. It’s the most populated city in Japan and also the most attractive city of
Japan too. It’s eleven hour by plane between Belgium and Tokyo, it’s long but if you like flying
there’s not will be a problem.

History

Tokyo was create in 1467 under the name of “Edo”, it was his old name. In 1603 the Shogunat took
the city as government. Who is the Shogunat ? It was dictators and military lords. In September
1868, when the era of Shogunat was done Edo is renamed Tokyo who signifie “The Capital of the
east”.

Tokyo is the only capital of Japan since 1869 when the emperor left kyoto and put his residence in
Tokyo.

The city

Tokyo is a big prefecture with the possibilitie to do a lot of things in the city. You generally can take
the metro or train to travel trough the city. It’s more easy than take the taxi.

By the first, there are a lot of museums, you can visit the wonderful unspoilt square Tokyo National
museum located in the north of Tokyo. And its the most ancient museum in Japan. Its open since
1872 which make it one of the oldest museums in the world, you can find stunning asian works of art
but also many historical pieces.

Then, you can visit the temples, because japaneses people are very in spiritual things with some
Gods, etc. For exemple : visit the magnificient breathtaking ancient sensoji temple and its gigantic
red lantern named Kaminarimon, its located in the neighborhood of Asakusa.

You can also visit the famous incredibly-high tower of Tokyo, situated in the neighborhood of
Shinjuku when you can watch the sunset.

Food

The specialities of Japan are Gyozas, Okonomiyakis alias japanese pizza, udons and ramens.
