BSC6900 Slot Configuration Description

1 BSC6900 GU Subracks

The configuration of BSC6900 GU(BM/TC Combined Mode) subracks is shown in the figure
1. The UMTS subrack is the master subrack and configured before the GSM subrack.; The
configuration of BSC6900 GU (BM/TC Separated Mode ) subracks is shown in the figure 2.
The GSM subrack is the master subrack and configured before the UMTS subrack. The
quotation of BSC6900 GU without DPUc/DPUg, the configuration is BM/TC Separated Mode.

The basic configuration rules of BSC6900 GU subracks are as follows:

(1) BSC boards and RNC boards are not configured in one subrack.
(2) The number of BSC subracks is at least one and at most four. The number of RNC
subracks is at least one and at most five.
(3) The total number of BSC and RNC subracks is at most six.
(4) If a TC subrack is configured, it must be installed in a TCR cabinet.

 Principles for configuring BSC6900 cabinets and subracks are as follows:

1. Cabinet (02112682): One or two pieces can be configured. The actual quantity of cabinets depends on
the BSC capability. A board configuration design must depend on the BSC capability accordingly. At a
cabinet, an independent subrack must be reserved for a fan.
2. Subrack (02300562): One to three pieces can be configured in each cabinet. Subracks (02300562) can
be configured for cabinets (02112682) only and must be installed from down to top.

BSC6900 Slot Configuration Description INTERNAL

3. Fan box (02120370): One piece is required in each subrack. Fan boxes (02120370) can be configured
for subracks (02300562) only.
4. NEBS cabinets (02113210): One or two pieces can be configured. Such cabinets are required by the
Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) certification only.

2 General Rules for Board Configuration

2.1 Differentiation Between GSM and UMTS Subracks

 A subrack without TNUa boards is a UMTS subrack and that with TNUa boards is a GSM
subrack. TNUa boards are configured in precedence. Two are installed in each GSM
subrack.
 TNUa, XPUa/XPUb, DPUc/DPUf, DPUd/DPUg, FG2c/FG2d,GOUc/ GOUd, EIUa and OIUa
boards are configured in only the GSM subrack.
 SPUa/SPUb, DPUb/DPUe, UOIa/UOIc, AOUa/AOUc, POUa and AEUa boards are
configured in only the UMTS subrack.
 SCUa/SCUb, PEUa, FG2a/FG2c, GOUa/GOUc, POUc, OMUa/OMUc ,GCUa/GCGa and
NIUa can be configured in both GSM and UMTS subracks.
Caution:
In certain cases, only SPUa/SPUb boards are configured while XPUa/XPUb boards are
not. In such cases, SPUa/SPUb boards are configured as XPUa/XPUb boards and
inserted in the GSM and UMTS subracks.
In certain cases, only DPUb boards are configured while DPUc/DPUd boards are not. In
such cases, DPUb boards are configured as DPUc/DPUd boards and inserted in the GSM
and UMTS subracks.

2.2 From Front to Rear

 Boards (SCUa/SCUb, TNUa, GCUa/GCGa, SPUb/SPUa, and XPUb/XPUa) in the front half
subrack are configured first, then DPUb/DPUc/DPUd/DPUe/DPUf/DPUg/ NIUa boards, and
then interface boards (AEUa, PEUa, EIUa, AOUa/AOUc, UOIa/UOIc, FG2a/FG2c/FG2d,
GOUa/GOUc/GOUd, POUa/POUc, and OIUa) and server boards (OMUa/OMUb/OMUc) in
the rear half subrack.
 Interface boards are inserted from slot 20 to both sides. FG2c, GOUc, and UOIc boards ( If
FG2c, GOUc, and UOIc are concurrence, FG2c, GOUc are configured first, then UOIc) are
configured first, then AEUa, PEUa, and EIUa boards, and then other interface boards. If
both E1 interface boards and optical interface boards are configured, the E1 interface
boards should be configured on one side wherever possible. The same types of boards
must be configured in adjacent slots.

BSC6900 Slot Configuration Description INTERNAL

Caution:
(5) TNUa boards are fixedly inserted in slot 4 and slot 5, SCUa/SCUb boards in slot 6
and slot 7, and GCUa/GCGa boards in slot 12 and slot 13.
(6) DPUb/DPUc/DPUd/DPUe/DPUf/DPUg/NIUa boards are service boards. They may be
installed in both the front half and the rear half of a subrack but in the front half in
precedence.
(7) EIUa, PEUa, AEUa, OIUa, AOUa, AOUc, UOIa, UOIc, POUa, POUc, FG2a, FG2c, FG2d,
GOUa, GOUc and GOUd boards are interface boards. They must be installed in the
rear half subrack.

2.3 No Intermixing
Except DPUb, DPUc/DPUf, DPUd/DPUg, DPUe and NIUa boards, boards in the front half
subrack must not be inserted in the rear half and boards in the rear half subrack must not be
inserted in the front half.

2.4 Board Allocation Rules

 Except the fixedly configured boards (SCUa/SCUb, TNUa, GCUa/GCGa, and
OMUa/OMUb/OMUc), all boards are allocated evenly to each subrack. The number of
boards per subrack equals the total number of boards divided by the number of subracks.
 The number of active and standby boards (XPUa/XPUb and SPUa/SPUb) must be even in
each subrack. The active board and the standby board must be inserted in adjacent active
and standby slots, such as slot 0 and slot 1, slot 2 and slot 3, and so on.
 If the total number of interface boards is even, the number boards allocated to each
subrack must be even. Active and standby boards must be inserted to adjacent slots, such
as slot 0 and slot 1, slot 2 and slot 3, and so on. If the total number of interface boards is
odd, the number of boards allocated to a subrack may be odd.
Caution:
(8) The number of boards for GSM use in a subrack equals the total number of boards
divided by the number of GSM subracks.
(9) The number of boards for UMTS use in a subrack equals the total number of boards
divided by the number of UMTS subracks.
(10) The number of other boards in a subrack equals the total number of boards divided
by the number of subracks.

the above figure.
 In a TC cabinet, SCUa/SCUb, TNUa, and DPUc/DPUf boards are mandatory.
 SCUa/ SCUb and TNUa boards are inserted in fixed slots. DPUc/ DPUf boards are inserted
in the front slots in precedence and in the rear slots when the front slots are all used.
Interface boards EIUa, OIUa and POUc must be inserted in rear slots.

 Recognition of expansion orders: An order where the first-level BOM of products is

01060459 and where server boards (OMUa/OMUb/OMUc) and clock boards
(GCUa/GCGa) are not included can be recognized as an expansion order.
 When the configuration is full, extra boards are delivered as spare parts.
