Counselling Contract - Spectrum Therapy
Counselling specialization
My main areas of practice are gender, sexuality, complex trauma, minority stress, and neurodivergence
(learning differences). My focus is on understanding and addressing your unique experiences of
marginalization: such as internalized shame, prejudice faced in relationships, experiences of institutional
discrimination, broader society's biases, or a combination of the above (to name a few examples).
Theoretical orientation
Depending on the specific needs of each client, I use one or more of these approaches: humanistic,
psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, social justice, affirmative, mindfulness, and/or neurodivergence
coaching.

Counselling consults
● Consults are 50 minutes weekly (unless fortnightly consults are agreed beforehand) at the same time
and day. Consistency is necessary for effective counselling. Unless agreed otherwise, you must
commit to 6 consults.
● In our first consult, we'll discuss your history and your goals for counselling. From the second to
fifth consults we'll explore the areas in your life which you've chosen to bring to counselling. I'll
support you in making your own decisions and help you better understand yourself and your
situation. In our sixth consult, we'll review and discuss next steps.
● You may end at any time after 6 consults, however ending abruptly can lead to negative outcomes.
You must attend an ending consult so that I can help you process the emotional challenges that often
arise when wanting to stop counselling (such as guilt, anger, regret, or sadness).
● If you face a crisis, you may request an emergency consult.

Confidentiality
Our conversations are confidential. I'll only break confidentiality:
○ If I determine that you or someone else is at immediate risk of serious harm;
○ If I'm required to by law; or
○ For conversations with my UK-based clinical supervisor, which are also confidential.
I'll discuss any breaking of confidentiality with you first, if possible.
Ethical considerations
● I reject 'reparative' or 'conversion' therapy that seeks to change a person's sexuality, gender identity,
or gender expression. It's harmful and not supported by evidence.
● I reject Applied Behaviour Analysis, which seeks to modify the natural behaviour of autistic people.
It deprives autistic people of self-regulation tools.
● I won't provide you services other than counselling. If you wish to attend a training I facilitate, please
discuss it during a consult beforehand.
● If you're under the influence of recreational drugs or alcohol during the consult, I won't see you as
counselling would be ineffective. Please refrain from smoking or vaping during consults.
● This contract is governed by Pakistani law, with the courts of Karachi having exclusive jurisdiction.
