PowerChart Oncology Help Pages  –  Importing Pathology Information Using Oncology Staging Tool
The Oncology Staging Workflow MPages component provides the ability to automatically import existing pathology
information into the staging tool whenever there is a new pathology report available for the patient. This
capability avoids double documentation of pathologic results in pathology reports and the staging component,
thus improving physician productivity and efficiency.
The system pulls pathology information from Cerner Cerner Millennium Laboratory reports with integration of
pathology information and the Oncology Staging Workflow MPages component.
To import pathology information into Oncology Staging Tool, use the configuration tool to map the AP discrete
data to Oncology task assays and nomenclatures.
Oncology Build Tool (OncologyBuildTool.exe) provides the mapping between the pathology and oncology staging
discrete information. This mapping tool allows you to map the discrete elements of the American Joint Committee
on Cancer (AJCC) staging forms to the discrete elements of a synoptic worksheet. By following this procedure, you
can map or associate individual nomenclatures of a AJCC stage form with individual terms of a synoptic worksheet
for each of the staging forms available for a staging system. This is a one-time task to create the mapping for each
staging form.
Once the configuration is in place, when a new pathology report is available for the patient, the system displays a
prompt when a provider selects the Add/Modify/Recurrence/Progression option and lists all of the specimens
available for the latest pathology report. The provider can select the appropriate specimen from which they want to
import the discrete staging data. With user confirmation, the Cerner Millennium Laboratory discrete elements from
the report are imported into the Oncology staging form.
Once the provider has selected a problem, onset date, stage system, and stage form for the patient, the system
displays a list of all the specimens added for the latest verified pathology report. The pane on the right side of the
window displays details of each discrete value that is available within the pathology report to be imported into the
staging form.
The provider then can click Import to import all the discrete information into the corresponding staging form fields.
