InfoCaster Creation Stations

The creation stations are your design systems. We recommend they have the same hardware
configuration as your players, but they may not need to be as powerful. The players are your
“workhorses” and should be given that consideration when choosing hardware. If you need to make
price point compromises, we recommend doing so with the creation stations rather than the
players.

Operating System Windows XP Pro SP2

Additional considerations for InfoCaster Manager hardware include the number of players
connected to it, how frequently you send updates to the players, and the size of the files being
transferred. Consider the following questions:
• Should InfoCaster Manager be its own dedicated system, or should it share a system with the
creation station?
• Should you run Windows XP Pro SP2, or Server 2008 R2 (which is recommended for ten or
more players)?
• How much hard drive space is required?
• How fast a connection/how fat a pipe do you need between InfoCaster Manager and the
players?

Supported Video Cards

The following video cards are supported by InfoCaster.

VGA and DVI These cards support VGA and DVI output.
VGA and DVI are standard computer monitor video signals. They provide a higher resolution and
more detail than composite or S-Video, resulting in images that are more crisp and clean, even on
large displays.
InfoCaster supports both Portrait and Landscape layouts on VGA or DVI systems, allowing a
display to be either vertically or horizontally aligned. For example, a 42 inch plasma screen could
be aligned vertically to provide a tall poster-like display at a movie theater.
Plasma and LCD screens with VGA or DVI inputs are capable of displaying progressive VGA
signals.
Note: All VGA cards require a minimum of 512MB onboard graphics memory.

Dual Head Matrox G550 PCIe

The G55-MDDE32 Matrox G550 PCIe part numbers have been tested with InfoCaster and are
known to work.
Notes: • The Matrox G550 PCIe card is only supported in Windows XP.
• Desktop video is not supported on this card because the Matrox 3.95 drivers required to
run it do not support Direct3D.
• We have also found that ASUS motherboard model P5GDC-V does not recognize the
Matrox G550 PCIe card.

Dual Head Matrox G450 AGP or G550 AGP

There are a number of different part numbers for Matrox G450 and G550 dual head video cards,
and not all of these video cards are supported or have been tested using InfoCaster. The following
are Matrox part numbers for supported Matrox G450 and G550 video cards that have been tested
with InfoCaster and are known to work.
• G45+MDHA16D
• G45+MDHA32DB
• G45FMDHA32DB
• G4+MDH4A16DB
• G4+MDH4A32DR
• G55+MDHA32DR
• G55+MDHA32DB
Note: These are AGP models only.
We do not guarantee InfoCaster support for G450 and G550 cards with different part numbers than
the ones shown above. Please note that while the cards mentioned above will work with InfoCaster,
this does not necessarily mean that cards with other part numbers will not work. This means that
cards with other part numbers other than those above have not been tested, and have not been
proven to work with InfoCaster.
The G45+MDHA16DLE part number for G450 has been proven to NOT work with InfoCaster.
Notes: • G450 and G550 cards are only supported in Windows XP.
