Vol 4: Chapter 3
Kimidori Gorn-san lived in a log house on the lake shore.
There was a table set and a couch on the wooden deck. A pretty stylish
house with a small boat that could sail out to the lake immediately.
I was honestly surprised. Since he was kind of eccentric, I imagined he
would be like a mad scientist who hides his secret research facility in a cave
or some such.
「Welcome inside, nuru.」Kimidori Gorn-san said, while repeatedly
glancing at us. It seems that he really wants us to come inside. But, is it
really normal to invite strangers you just met so easily? Rather, it makes me
more cautious.
Normally, having Asha enter first would be the basis of an escort, but I
didn’t know what was inside, so I took the lead with caution.
「…Oh, it’s normal.」
I involuntarily voiced my thoughts.
There was a fireplace, a bed, and a table for 4. There were unrefined copper
pots and mugs on the table. The place was clean, spacious and fresh.
The temperature was higher than outside, so it was sort of humid. But it
doesn’t have any strange smell.
「N-Now then, would you like to eat first, nuru? Or change clothes, nuru?
Or perhaps–the research?」
Are you a newly-wed bride? ”Do you want a meal? A bath? Or else… me?”
Don’t say something like that while fidgeting.
「I’m sorry, but we would like to know about the state of affairs around
these parts first of all.」
「Hmm. About the state of affairs of the research results, huh. How
enthusiastic! Splendid, nura!」
「…………」
Asha. This is not my fault. So don’t look at me with such a troubled
expression.
「Okay… let’s see it.」I said.
「Hmhmhm! Then wait just a moment!」
Kimidori Gorn-san jumped into the next room through the door at the back,
and immediately returned with a handful of metal magic tools.
「Look at this, nura!」
He placed two eggs on the plates on the table. It was about twice as large as
a L-size chicken egg, and had a yellow shell with purple polka dots. Back
on Earth, this would be similar to an “Easter egg”.
Although the pattern was slightly different, the two eggs looked almost
identical.
「What are these eggs?」
「It’s a Chochoriges egg, nu. Don’t you know?」
I didn’t know that, but I don’t think I really want to know, either. Looking
through【World Ruler】, I can see the bird that laid this egg. It was a very
funky-looking bird with three necks and an earthworm tail. It seems that the
earthworm part is thrust into the ground and lays eggs. The eggs are highly
nutritious, but eating too much can cause addiction. That was all the
information I got. Useless knowledge that will be of no use in the future.
「And this is a magic tool that is the result of my research, nu.」
「I see?」
The metal base, which is about a handful, seems to be insanely heavy
judging from the sound it made when placed on the table earlier. There was
a metal plate in the center and holes on the left and right to insert magic
stones.
「We put the egg here, and then…」
The moment the egg was placed in the center, an intricately drawn sorcery
circuit emerged on the plate and the base while casting light.
「————」
Asha, who was standing next to me, observed the scene with wonder.
As the light subsided, more letters emerged.
『Life』
Asha and I exchanged glances, confused as to what that meant. The next
egg was placed and the magic circuit was activated in the same way.
The next letter emerged.
『Boiled egg』
「Fufufu…Fuhahahahahahahahaha!!! You must be astonished, aren’t you,
nura!! This is my perfected device! A magic tool which distinguishes if it is
a boiled egg or not! I call it『Dead Or Alive』!!!」
Kimidori Gorn laughed like a mad scientist, spreading both hands wide.
His voice echoed throughout the small log house.
The sound will surely reach far along the lakeside.
Immediately after, a deafening silence descended.
「…Umm, you just have to place the egg on a flat surface and spin it. If it
spins quickly, it’s a boiled egg, and if it spins slowly, it’s a raw egg. Isn’t
that how it’s usually done?」
When I demonstrated it, there was a clear difference in the rotation of the
two eggs. Of course, it was the same outcome as the result of the magic
tool.
「…………」
Kimidori Gorn-san, his arms still outstretched, looked at the scene with
wide eyes and mouth gaping open.
**
After that, Kimidori Gorn-san silently cleared away “Dead Or Alive” and
served us tea, then scrambled eggs and boiled eggs for dinner. The main
meal was mashed potatoes sprinkled with salt. Even that was very delicious,
and we had a good feast.
「So… do you guys want to know about this area, nura?」
Kimidori Gorn-san finally spoke after a long silence.
「Umm, I am sorry for just now…」I said.
「No! It’s fine! It’s not like I spent two years conducting that research, or
borrowed money from my parents!」
I couldn’t find the words to console Kimidori Gorn-san who turned away
dejectedly. Damnit! Why didn’t someone teach this man how to distinguish
a boiled egg! No, this person chose to live in such a remote place… this
situation can’t be helped.
「Coming back to the topic… you wanted to know about the dragonewt
people, right, nu?」
「Are you a dragonewt?」Asha asked.
「Hmm? Surely you must have heard about us in your village? You don’t
even know such a common knowledge, nu?」
「Umm… we have some special circumstances.」I said.
「I see. Underground humans and dark elves have a strong tribal sense.
You must have had a hard time…」
He was feeling sympathy for us for some reason. “Well, I felt more pain
when my two years of research was shattered in an instant,” he muttered
under his breath.
「There are more dragonewt than underground humans and dark elves,
after all. Right now, there are probably more than 10,000 of us.」
「10,000!?」
「Fuhaha. Are you surprised, nuru? The dragonewt people are strong in the
battle with monsters–」
「W-Wait a minute!」
I involuntarily yelled out.
「Uhh… I just want to make sure, but what about races other than the
underground humans, the dark elves, and the dragonewt people…?」I
asked.
Kimidori Gorn-san stared at me blankly. And with a look that seemed to
back up my unpleasant premonition, he said,
「Of course, there are only three races. The rest perished hundreds of years
ago, nu. Don’t you know that?」
Reincarnated as the Son of a
Vicious Lord! ~When I Was
Having Fun Learning Magic, I Had
to Get Rid of My Stigma~!
Chapter 53My ribs must have been broken by the
impact of being blown away.
“Gaaaahhhh!
When the monster found someone who was running away, it changed its
target to him.
“Owen!”
The place was in chaos, people were screaming and running for their lives.
—Body Enhancement
I close the distance to the monster that has its back to me.
“Guwaaaaaaaa!”
The monster’s blow is heavy, but it’s nothing to be afraid of if it doesn’t hit
you.
I put magic into my arms.
“Geeeaaaaah!
“Bullet.”
—Boom!
The impact to my right shoulder, and at the same time, a hole in the
monster’s left shoulder.
“Giyaaaaahhhh!”
—Boom!
“Bullet.”
—Boom!
Not yet.
“Bullet ……!”
—Boom!
“Dominic ……?”
When Farren saw this, she placed her hands on Dominic’s body.
However, Dominic’s ashing did not stop, and he was finally reduced to
ashes up to his chest.
“Heal him!”
“I could have…”
“I’m sorry……”
I raised my gaze and tried to look at Farren.
The moment I saw the death on his face, I felt nauseous rapidly.
“Guaa gaah”
The pioneer town serves to prevent the influx of demons from the jungles to
the south of the Kingdom of Zain. In spite of this, the town is run by money
from the sale of demon materials and loans from the adventurers’ guild.
The town has never received any aid from the Crown.
“…… Is that really what you want? You’re not going to get revenge on
your brother, are you?”
Zafis raises his eyebrows in question.
Zafis, who knew Raidorl when he was sent to the frontier, knew how
devastated and hurt the young prince had been by the betrayal of those he
had trusted.
He suspected that he intended to use the war as an opportunity to return to
the Royal Capital and take revenge on his brother the King.
“Revenge…..huh..”
In response to his sword master’s question, Raidorl looked out the window
with a faraway look in his eyes.
He once hated his brother Granard for betraying him.
He has hated his brother Granard for betraying him, and he has hated his
aides Lockwood Marcell and Bazel Garst.
He even disliked the kingdom of Zain, which had driven him to the frontier
and kept him at peace by mistreating him.
“But…… that’s beside the point.”
But Raidorl was not going to take revenge, he swore.
If Granard would leave him alone, he would be happy to spend the rest of
his life fighting demons on the frontier.
The frontier city was full of danger and turmoil, but there was a pure truth
to it, that the strongest survived, and that suited Raidorl.
“If my brother, Granard, had stayed out of my life, I would have been fine
with that. But if he still wants to take it from me after all this time, I’ll have
to fight. I will not let them take it from me again.”
“….I see.”
“I’ll come with you everywhere you go, Master!”
Zafis nodded gravely when he heard Raidorl’s decision. Neimilia also
pinched the edge of her skirt and bowed her head smilingly.
“This is a fight for my pride. I’ll take back what is taken from me. I will not
tolerate those who take from us. I’ll crush them both, the Empire and
Granard.”
With a determination like a blazing fire, Raidorl stared out of the window at
the northern sky.
Beyond the sky – in the royal palace of the Kingdom of Zain – a dead holy
sword cried out with a high-pitched sound, as if calling out to its master.
He’s no longer an ornament, but the lord who has the final say will be away
from the city. There were many things to be handed over, including how to
deal with emergencies.
It was already half past midnight, but there was still no sign of Raidorl’s
return. Her captive, Mertina, had already been transferred to the guild’s
prison for criminals, leaving Neimilia alone in the not-so-large house.
“Ugh……….”
No matter how late it was, he would be back before morning.
Even though she knew this, Neimilia could not control the feelings of
anxiety that welled up in her heart.
She chewed on her blanket and groaned with tears in her eyes.
Being alone in the dark reminded her of the hellish days of the past.
The memory of the first time she met her future master, Raidorl, flashed
through her mind.
“The Six Witches of Doom.”
This is the name of a monster that has been appearing in human history for
hundreds of years, and has often almost destroyed the world.
It was two years ago that Neimilia, one of those evil witches, met Raidorl
Zain.
The Kingdom of Zain is a country in the west of the continent. In the south,
there was a vast sea of trees that stretched over a fifth of the country.
It is a remote sea of trees where a vast amount of mana blows from the
dragon veins and continues to discharge powerful demons by mutation.
Deep within the sea of trees, hidden from view by the dense foliage, stood
the ruins of an old stone structure.
The ruins have been sealed off from the outside with magic and refuse to be
entered by anyone.
“……….ha”
Inside these ruins, Neimilia sighs.
Her hands and feet were bound by chains that hung from the ceiling and
walls. Her body is not clothed in a single piece of cloth, and her white
naked body is fully exposed in the darkness without a ray of light.
Her naked body is as spotless as virgin snow, untouched by anyone, and the
silver hair cascading from her head is as beautiful as fine silverwork. Her
eyes are golden and shine like the light of the full moon in the night sky,
illuminating the darkness.
She was a work of art in her own right, but there was no one to admire her
beauty in the ruins, where there was no room for an ant.
Neimilia, the Witch of Darkness, had spent hundreds of years in the
lightless ruins of the Abyss.
“………………I’m lonely. I want to talk to someone.”
Such words leaked from Neimilia’s mouth.
The darkness of the abyss was not always a pain for Neimilia, the witch
who controls ‘darkness’.
However, Neimilia never met anyone, and for hundreds of years spent
alone, slowly her mind starts to break down.
In fact, she has done well. A normal person would go insane in less than a
week if they were trapped alone in the dark with no light. The fact that
Neimilia can live in such an environment for hundreds of years and still
maintain an equilibrium in her mind is extraordinary.
However, even Neimilia’s mind was reaching its limits.
Her mind, which had been gradually whittled down over hundreds of years,
was on the verge of collapse, and in a few short days, her mind would sink
into madness.
How this witch ended up in a never-ending captivity goes back hundreds of
years.
Follow-up Incident
Adventurer Guild, Imperial Capital Branch.
As Silver, I have been standing by at the Imperial Capital Branch waiting
for the report from the investigation team.
However.
“Still nothing yet?”
“Unfortunately……we lost contact with them.”
There is also an adventurer guild branch in the Kingdom’s capital.
We should be able to receive the report of the situation through that
channel.
However, there is no subsequent report after we were notified that the team
encountered multiple Demons.
A considerable amount of time has already passed since the initial report.
That should be more than enough time for the SS-rank adventurers on-site
to take care of things. It’s very unlikely that they have not settled it yet.
“If we can not confirm the situation there, I will go to the Kingdom
myself.”
“That’s………”
The guild staff responded with a troubled expression.
They don’t know what to do even if I said that huh.
That being said, the role assigned to me was to standby here in case of an
emergency.
The lack of contact from the investigation team should also count as one.
When I was thinking that far.
A report came through.
“There’s a report, sir!”
“Hurry up and say it!”
“Yes! The investigation team encountered Demons in multiple locations and
the SS-rank Adventurers moved in to engage them! All three Demons have
been subjugated, sir!”
Sigh of relief spread inside the Branch.
The plan was to send three SS-rank Adventurers in.
It indicated that failure is not an option.
However.
“A follow-up report just came through, sir!”
Another staff member hurriedly entered the room behind the first one.
His face bears a grave expression.
“There is more!?”
“Yes! A fourth Demon has appeared in the Kingdom! It was trying to
escape and the SS-rank Adventurer was in pursuit! The initial report said
that three cities have been destroyed in the process, sir!”
“WHAT…….?”
“Did they manage to subjugate it?”
“That is yet to be confirmed, sir…….”
The atmosphere immediately turned heavy.
They were celebrating the SS-rank Adventurers until earlier but they
immediately got pulled back to reality with the second report.
The other party is a group of Demons.
Obviously, defeating them is no easy task.
“Did they request my help?”
“Y, yes…..SS-rank Adventurer Jack has issued an official request for your
dispatch, Silver-san.”
“Good. Then I’m going. I will ask Jack for the details.”
Saying so, I immediately transferred to the Kingdom.
“Leo-niisama!”
Christa ran up and hugged Leo immediately after he entered the castle.
Receiving her, Leo smiles back at Christa.
“I’m back, Christa. I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
Perhaps due to the long separation, Christa does not leave Leo’s side.
While making a bitter smile at her, Leo spotted me who just came out to
welcome him back.
“I’m back, Nii-san.”
“Yeah, so you managed to come back huh?”
“What do you mean?”
“Literally. So, you managed to leave Leticia behind and come back huh.”
“I can’t refuse His Majesty’s summon after all. That being said, she is under
the protection of the Second Corp now.”
“The Kingdom doesn’t like the fact that their Saintess is in the Empire after
all. It’s also possible that she might feel estranged when you are away.
Leaving her with them is a good plan.”
The Second Imperial Knight Corp specialized in escorting VIPs.
They are excellent in protection and are quite persevering.
One could say that a unit is the reflection of its captain.
That’s why he should feel safe leaving her with them.
“I actually wanted to bring Leticia back with me but she insisted on staying
near the border……”
“The people that are migrating from the Kingdom are admirers of Leticia
after all. They have no loyalty toward the Empire. If Leticia leaves, it’s
possible that they might go back. Otherwise only the wise ones would
choose to stay after all.”
“I thought that leaving her with them for a little while should be fine. It
would be better if she has Three Corps protecting her though.”
“You think three Imperial Knight Corps are willing to go along with your
selfish request?”
“It’s fine isn’t it. What meaning would my power hold if it can’t grant me a
small selfish wish like this.”
“Is that right. But leave that after you ascend the throne would you.”
While tiredly responding to my brother’s ridiculous wish, I urge Leo to
move.
After all, we have a place to be. Especially Leo.
“Come on, let’s go greet Father.”
“Do you think he will allow my marriage now?”
“Impossible. At least with Trau-niisan’s marriage, you will have to wait for
a while.”
“Unnnn, what a shame.”
Muttering so, Leo started walking.
Night.
Leo who finished giving his greeting returned to his room.
“Ahh, I’m tired.”
“You only had a short break before and had to go to the west immediately
after all. This time you should be able to relax for a while.”
“It seems you have a lot to do though, Nii-san.”
“Trau-niisan will hold his wedding ceremony soon. After that, I will have to
head to the Dominion with him. I guess I will be put to work for a while.”
“If you don’t want to go then you should just choose to settle down with
someone. I heard the rumors that you don’t want to marry now because you
are worried about the power relationship in the faction but you don’t really
care about that right?”
“I was too popular that I couldn’t choose.”
“Aren’t you just being indecisive then?”
I shrug at my brother’s harsh comment.
I guess there’s no point talking more about this with him huh.
A person who already settled on his partner would not understand someone
who couldn’t do the same after all.
“By the way, did you hear about the Demons Subjugation?”
“Changing the topic just like that huh. Well, I don’t mind. I heard about it
but is there a problem?”
“From the result of the investigation, it seems that Grimoire was involved in
most of the recent incidents that happened to the Empire. So…….do you
think that an organization like that would be destroyed so easily?”
“I want to say that they stood no chance against three SS-rank Adventurers
but……….the opponent is the Demons. I think that was too easy.”
“I agree. There are also a lot of things that still remain unclear. It’s possible
that they just left us some convenient information and hid in the dark again.
If that’s the case then there will be a storm coming.”
“In other words, you’re telling me to not let my guard down right?”
“That’s right. I will be in the Dominion, you will stay in the Empire alone.
Do not let down your guard. From the beginning, Grimoire’s aim was
always the Empire. if they are still out there, they will surely target the
Empire again.”
“I won’t let my guard down. They did target Leticia once after all. There
won’t be a second time. Until I can make sure that they are thoroughly
destroyed…….I will never have peace of mind.”
“Then I guess there won’t be a problem. Once I become a prime minister, I
won’t be able to come back for at least a year. At the very least, I want to
concentrate all authority on Trau-niisan first. This will be the first time that
we are going to be separated for such a long time but…….the things we
have to do still don’t change.”
“My opponent is Eric-aniue and I have to defeat the Kingdom in order to
win. I personally want to solve the problems with the Kingdom for Leticia
but my purpose is clear. As always, we can only do our best. Still…….I’m
getting a little anxious.”
“I’m the same. We have always been together after all. Still, this should
serve as a good experience. There are things that we can only see once we
are separated after all.”
“The enemy should think that if we are together, it will be dangerous for
them.”
“Right. They will make their move while we are separated. If we can
endure it and survive, the throne will be within your reach. The Kingdom
should be able to recover in a year. The game will resume after my return.
Don’t get ahead before I come back alright.”
“I know. Let’s take the throne together.”
I pour the wine on the table into two glasses.
One for myself and another for Leo.
And while looking at the moon, we made a toast.
Goblin Fight
It was my first day off since I confessed to the butler that I was hunting
outside the city. Today, I left the mansion before the sun rose and ran to the
gate, where I found the usual gate keeper. I thanked him for his hard work.
“Boy, are you going out again today?”
“Yes.”
We made the usual small talk until the 6 o’clock bell rang. I had been
showing him my coat of arms regularly, but the other day he told me that I
didn’t have to show it every time I go out. Since I don’t have to show my
coat of arms anymore, I keep it in my Inventory. It’s not as strict as the train
stations and airports in the real world.
“Now let’s go”, I thought as I ran away from the city. It was the first
snowfall of the season, and it was past the middle of December. The normal
clothes I was given were not that thick. However, it was not that cold for
me, who was always running to get around outside the city.
I was getting further and further away from the city.
(Is this distance okay? Come on out, Eagles.)
Six E-rank Birds were summoned at once. Of course, they were
summoned to a location a few dozen meters in the air. With the instruction
to go look for the Goblins, they scatter and take off in search of the Goblins.
I killed a few D-rank magical beasts, but the experience of the Goblins
was the most efficient. There are some D-rank magical beasts that provide
more experience than Goblins per unit, but the number of them appearing at
once is very small.
Whether there are too many Goblins or too few other magical beasts,
Goblins are the first to be discovered, which is another good reason to target
them.
I’ve become a complete Goblin Slayer.
(I should kill 100 Goblins first, and then kill some horned rabbits to earn
some money and collect magic stones. I need to hunt five horned rabbits.)
While deciding on the quota for each hunt, I waited for the Eagles to
return.
The encounter rate with magical beasts is not that high. If there were no
Summons, I’d probably only be able to hunt three of them a day at most.
Because of his summons’s excellent spotting skills, Allen’s hunting
efficiency was much higher.
Then about three hours passed.
Allen was eating dried potatoes and MoMo nuts for lunch. Since he was
running around, it was important to recover his energy. The MoMo nuts
also rehydrated him. It’s very efficient and delicious.
Then one Eagle stopped on a branch of a tree near Allen.
“Oh, wait a minute. I’ll finish eating now.”
“Peeeee!” The bird shouted.
(Hmm? What is it?)
There was something unusual about this particular Eagle. I looked to the
sky. Three other Eagles had also already found their prey. But they were
flying in the sky without descending to the trees.
(Eh?)
“Peeeee!!!”
The Eagle cried more strongly as if it’s trying to tell me something.
“Hmm? Is there something wrong?”
This is not normal behavior for Eagles. Allen put away the dried potatoes
he was about to eat. The Eagle who had been watching, flapped its wings
from the branch and slowly headed somewhere. It looked behind and after
confirming that it was being followed, it sped up quickly.
(Oh, that’s really fast.)
The Eagle always had high speed and intelligence. It’s even faster now
that I’ve enhanced it. I also raised my speed.
(Seriously, that’s quite a distance. What is it?)
We ran for about 15 minutes. I heard a voice in the distance. It sounded
like someone was shouting.
“Milsy, run!”
“No, I can’t leave you and Raven!”
“Just go!”
(What? Are they being attacked?)
There was a woman using a dagger fighting a group of Goblins. And
behind her was a man who had fallen injured and a woman who was taking
care of him. From the way they were dressed, they all seemed to be
adventurers.
Rita, the dagger wielder, was desperately fighting four Goblins. Two
other Goblins were already dead behind her. Rita was hit in one arm and
couldn’t raise it. She slumped down; blood dripping down her face. She was
struggling to fight with one arm. I heard a loud voice saying, “We can’t let
them through here.”
Allen took out an iron ball from his Inventory and threw it with all his
might.
(This wasn’t how I expected my first throw with an iron ball to be.)
The ball went straight into Goblin’s head. Its face was smashed.
I crushed the face of one of the Goblins. The Goblin’s knees hit the
ground as the iron ball smashes into its face.
“I’ll cover you!” I said to Rita.
“What? Who?”
“Hey, turn around, we’re in a fight.”
I threw another iron ball, which hit the second Goblin in the face, causing
it to stumble.
“My iron ball won’t kill it. Be careful!”
“Okay, okay, …”
The sudden appearance of reinforcements surprised her, but Allen didn’t
care and threw the last iron ball. Since Allen killed two Goblins so shortly,
the third Goblin was wary of him. The Goblin used his arm to block the
flying iron ball, but his arm shattered.
However, it seems to have more strength than the other two Goblins who
were hit in the face. The Goblin clutched the club with the other hand.
(There are only two Goblins left that can move.)
I draw my dagger and leap forward. I can’t summon anything in front of
people. I have already turned my summons into cards.
“I’ll take down the unharmed one! Take care of the one-armed one!”
“Okay…”
He entered a close battle with a Goblin with a rusty, battered dagger;
when he had defeated the D-ranked Albaheron, he had made the F-rank
Insect to use its special skill Suction and had won by stealing its power.
But this time, he didn’t summon anything. The battle began without
Allen using any special skills.
I avoided all of the Goblin’s large strikes. I didn’t use my dagger to parry
attacks. If I take a hit with my dagger, the blade might be damaged. So, I
don’t wear out my weapon necessarily.
Allen was already Level 12, and had about 300 Attack Power and
Agility. He approached and slashed the neck of the Goblin in an instant. He
retreated even before the fresh blood erupted. It was an overwhelming
victory.
The reason why I usually let summoned beasts defeat magical beasts is
because they stain my precious everyday clothes. I’ve fought without
getting my clothes dirty so far.
The Goblin collapsed it’s knees. I look at Rita, the female adventurer
with the dagger. She was about to kill the other Goblin. It seems that she
wouldn’t be defeated by a wounded Goblin. The two Goblins who had been
hit in the face with iron balls were also stopped.
“Raven!”
“Ugh!”
I have met the heavily injured adventurer named Raven before in the
Adventurer’s Guild. His companions desperately tried to call out to him, but
he only groaned faintly. He looked like he was about to die.
Allen moved closer. A dark-haired boy, no more than ten years old,
appeared out of nowhere and helped the adventurers to defeat Goblins.
(Hmm, the one called Milsy seems to be a healer, but has she run out of
mana? I’ll have to use the Grass of Life.)
“Excuse me, I have some medicinal herbs. Do you want to use it?”
“Ho, really!”
Both of their expressions suddenly changed.
“I’ll pay whatever you want, just help Raven!”
Not very polite, but I don’t care about that. Pretending to take it out of
my back, I took out the Grass of Life from my Inventory, Grimoire.
(Oh no, I’m dealing with such a dying person to test the effect for the first
time.)
I haven’t tested it yet, but from the name, I’m assuming it’s a restorative
herb. I grab a leaf that is very large and bring it close to Raven. I don’t
know how to use it, but I applied it to his heavily wounded stomach.
The two friends look at Raven’s empty face with concern. And they look
at me with hope.
(Hey, don’t look at me so expectantly. I don’t know how much this will
heal, and I don’t know if it’s even a recovery potion.)
The Grass of Life touches the adventurer’s body.
The leaf that touched the wound glowed and disappeared like a bubble.
Then, Raven’s stomach, whose internal organs were almost visible, healed
at a great speed. It was hard to tell with all the blood on his stomach, but it
seemed to have completely healed.
Raven regains consciousness and slowly opens his eyes. He rubs his
belly and checks the wound.
“Oh!”
Raven was astonished to see his wounds healed. Rita and Milsy, Raven’s
friends, also shout in surprise.
“Raven!”
Raven couldn’t understand how he was okay. He asks Milsy, who is
holding a cane, if he healed her but Milsy shakes her head.
“I am glad you are safe. Umm…, Rita, right? Let me heal your arm as
well.”
I took out the Grass of Life once again and touched her injured and
bleeding arm.
The three adventurers were watching me. The wound was disappearing at
an incredible rate. It’s as if time is rewinding. It healed quickly and
completely. She raised her arm, which had lost its strength due to broken
bones, to her chest and clutched the palm of her hand again and again in
surprise.
“‘Mullerse flower!!!”
The three of them all mentioned the name of the herb that had saved
Rodin’s life. They must’ve thought that the Grass of Life was a Mullerse
flower.
Treant sees us off from the entrance of the mine with a dead expression.
Nightmare didn’t want to be left alone with Treant, and Treant feels
frustrated that he can’t be together with me and wants to switch places with
Nightmare.
S-Sorry Treant…… I’ll buy you nutritious fertilizers if I find some.
“I know you don’t want to be noticed. But we also don’t want to spend too
much walking to get there, right?”
“…… R-, Ryujin-sama is asking if you have some other idea in mind”
“I’m saying that we should just catch us a ride. There’s a monster around
here called the Steel Horse, and although wild, they’re famous for letting
anyone ride them if you manage to catch one. Many adventurers use them
to go to Alban. We’ll reach our destination faster that way”
In my case, since only my attack and defense stats get halved during
humanization, I’ll still be fast enough to go to Alban in a short time, but I
can’t say the same to Alo and Nightmare.
Volk’s idea is certainly good, but who knows, this so-called ‘Steel Horse’
that he mentioned might be something that only high-ranked adventurers
can handle, and we might stand out even more when we arrive at the city.
But oh well, if it can take us there along with Alo and Nightmare, then who
am I to complain.
“The Steel Horse is cowardly and will immediately run as soon as they spot
a threat from afar. But, I’m sure it’s nothing you can’t handle”
After wandering around the outskirts of the Great Alban Mine for a while to
look for a Steel Horse, it’s obviously that one, right? I’ve had my eye on it
since I sensed its presence from afar.
Ah…… I see.
That only removes any point of having to hunt for a Steel Horse now.
Although, running together with Volk to the city doesn’t sound too practical
since we’re taking Alo and Nightmare with us, so we’ll still choose to ride
on a Steel Horse anyway.
“Still, we’re lucky we found one right away. They tend to hide often,
despite their usefulness”
While I was thinking to myself, the Steel Horse that we found noticed us
and immediately trots away.
Ah, wait! It’s okay to chase it, right? Right? It took us a while just to find
one, and Volk said that we should catch it……
Then, without a moment to waste, Volk unsheathes his Leral.
“Stand back and watch as I hunt down that beast. With your big size, you
might accidentally squash it”
“Ne-…… neighh!!”
The Steel Horse lets out a cry with a voice that sounded like a rusty musical
instrument, and then its speed increased.
And yet, despite that, it still can’t seem to shake off Volk’s pursuit.
But, as if by luck or by instinct, the Steel Horse bends its head down to
avoid Volk’s hands.
Volk only managed to graze through its steel mane.
Impatience is seen in Volk's expression.
He forcefully stretches his arms and turns his body, swinging his sword and
aiming to slam the Steel Horse’s head with the side of his sword.
A high-pitched metallic sound is heard, and the weight from the impact of
Volk’s sword reaches the Steel Horse’s knees, causing it to lose balance and
trip in the midst of running at high speed.
Volk uses the additional force from his last swing to spin in the air and land
on his feet, with his sword back in its scabbard.
Well, results are results, but you think you can fool me?!
Volk looks at me and notices my eyes handing out criticism to his last
action.
“T-This works too! At least I hunted the beast! Did you really think I would
stray from my way of the sword that easily?”
Ehhh??
I saw you get impatient when your plan didn’t work, so you went and
slammed its head ‘cause you were mad, and now its knees are dislocated.
“I-I heard the Ouroboros is good with white magic! She’s still breathing.
You can still fix her!”
…… It’s a she?
I feel like I chose the wrong guy to be our guide to the royal capital.
The Steel Horse was already on the brink of death from Volk’s one
sidesword swing, but with Partner’s〖High Rest〗, she was able to recover.
After looking around some more, we captured another Steel Horse.
And with this, we can finally set off to the Alban capital.
“Kay, let’s do this…… since my transformation has a time limit, let’s set off
right away”
Alo nods.
But, just as Alo walks towards me, Naiko comes along too.
The two stopped and looked at each other.
After all that hate you used to give me…… Naiko, you still wanted to share
a ride with me.
Does this mean you like me, even if it’s just a little?
Aw, so you can act cute to me sometimes.
…… But, just when I was thinking that, Naiko silently turns away and
walks to Volk.
“I’m fine with just running on my own two feet, but…… I can settle with
riding horseback. I’ve ridden Steel Horses before, so I can show you how
it’s done, Ouroboros. They’re tough to handle, but your strength should be
more than capable enough”
“Yes! Ryujin-sama!”
Volk grabs Naiko by the collar from her robe and lifts her up to ride with
him.
As I saw Naiko’s feet leave the ground, I could briefly see her eyes looking
at me from under her mask.
Huhu, let this be a lesson to you, Nightmare, that you should share at least
one-tenth of your affection to me as you would to Partner.
Revel in the society that you shall be soon a part of. I for one am glad that
you’ll be learning this.
Depending on your behavior in the royal capital, I could ask Volk to carry
the supplies so I could let you join me and Alo for a ride on our way back.
“Oh, and…… stay away from the Alban Knights too. If your story is true,
then we may need to watch our backs from them as well. Especially the
three head knights who serve the royal family. I did hear that the princess
replaced them recently”
“Anyway, I recommend that you avoid the three knights entirely. I heard
that they’re pretty skilled…… and that each of them possess a special
power. They could end up revealing your true identity”
“But, no need to worry about them too much. Even if they find us and
expose your secret, we just need to silence them. In fact, let’s just do that.
I’ve always wanted to fight them myself”
No, no, silencing them is out of the question, if they find out one of them is
missing, it’ll only arouse suspicion!
And besides, fighting inside the city is dangerous, and we won’t get to
gather information anymore!
Keep your dream fights to yourself!
“…… Thanks for the warning. Let’s take a path that avoids an encounter
with them as much as possible. And on the way, you can tell me more about
them, like what they look like and where they like to go to. For now, we
need to get going”
“Right. Kick the side of the Steel Horse to move them. It’ll make them run.
If you want to stop or change directions, just yell or navigate its neck”
“Now, watch as I show you how it’s done. Hiyahh! Don’t kick too hard or
they’ll faint!”
Volk raises his legs and kicks the side of the Steel Horse with great force
that made it look like his heels were about to sink into the metal skin and a
loud clang is heard.
The Steel Horse cries out and dashes into the horizon.
“Ohh, I can see why it’s called a capital.”
The royal capital, Alban, is the first big city that I’ve been to ever since I
came to this world.
There are many tall buildings with red roofs, and even the streetways are
paved.
In my previous world, this may have been just a passing thought, but it
certainly feels refreshing to be standing on hard ground that isn’t soil or
earth.
As I look around the many different infrastructure of the city, Alo clings
tight behind me.
She must not be used to being around this many people.
The only other people she’s been with were from the Lithuvar Tribe, so her
nervousness is understandable.
Although, it doesn’t seem to affect her excitement since she’s still looking
around despite hiding behind me.
A tall topless man with silver hair carrying a big sword on his back stands
out in the crowd.
It’s Volk.
Upon arrival in the city, Volk told us to wait here while he went to a special
stable where Steel Horses are specifically kept.
I have a sudden urge to punch Volk on the head for mentioning my species
name in a crowded city like this…… but, I won’t.
No one’s going to believe that a rank A evil dragon is strolling around the
capital city anyway.
“You don’t have much time, right? I’ll help you with your search”
It’s been a while since I’ve been in a place with this many humans. I really
want to stay around and explore the city more.
But for now, I’ll stick to gathering information about the princess, a.k.a. the
Demon King.
The information I want to obtain is; proof of the Demon King switching
places with the princess, as well as the Demon King’s current fighting
strength…… and if possible, I would also like to know about the strengths
of those three knights who serve as the princess’s shield, though that may
be asking for too much…… but, if by some stroke of luck that we somehow
manage to obtain information about what species the Demon King is, then
we’ll hit the jackpot.
I don’t really know where to start, so let’s just gather any rumor we can find
about the royal family.
Volk kinda already knows about the general events occurring in the royal
city, so we can scratch that out of the list in our search.
After all, Volk, despite being a sword-freak, is still a civilized person. Even
though he doesn’t look the part.
He told me everything he knows about the royal family, like the strange
movements of Princess Chris and quite a few common info about the three
head knights, on our way here to Alban.
Ever since the sudden decline of the royal family from an unknown disease,
Princess Chris, the youngest to the throne, took over the succession as the
only survivor from the mysterious purge.
With the current ruler being a young maiden, the royal vassals are the ones
handling most of the political affairs.
According to custom, the man who Princess Chris chooses as her husband
shall become the new king.
From what I’ve gathered so far, Princess Chris is sickly and doesn’t go out
often.
But ever since she became the sole survivor of the royal family, she started
organizing a party to hear stories from adventurers of afar, replaced the
three head knights and appointed the new ones as her personal aides, and
even deciding who her future husband will be to anyone who offers her the
rarest and most expensive gift.
Honestly, if she was just a spoiled child, then I’d be fine with that, but this
only confirms the information I’ve been told, like hosting a party for
adventurers to turn them into exp points, meddling with the top leaders to
possibly overrun the whole palace with monsters, and even stirring up
internal conflicts between the feudal lords to decline the number of humans
being in charge.
As for the three head knights who protect the princess; one of them happens
to be a bishop from the Church and is known to many as a man of his
character, Roguehale; another is a former adventurer who decided to join
the imperial knights only because he liked the princess, Thermal; and as for
the third one, I heard that she originated from the slums, and that her natural
talent as a fighter was recognized so she was accepted as a knight, then she
kept rising up the ranks until she became a head knight. I think her name is
Mephisto.
There are quite a few of the citizens who have concerns about how and why
they were selected…… I mean, a priest, an adventurer, and a beggar? Those
are quite a unique array of knights there, but apparently Volk doesn’t care
about that and is only interested in how strong they are.
Volk also voiced his opinion about Thermal, saying that he must’ve been
selected because of his handsome looks.
…… Hearing about all this, I can only wonder if the princess has weird
tastes for choosing those kinds of people as her personal bodyguards.
And with that, we begin our search for the three head knights, though it’s
mostly just us walking around the city, hoping we run into them by chance.
If their status shows that they’re monsters, then not only will it confirm that
the princess is actually the Demon King, but it also increases the possibility
that there could be other monsters hiding in the royal palace.
Plus, if we’re able to determine the fighting strength of the three head
knights, we can make a guess on how strong the Demon King is too.
“Alo…… we’re running out of time, you know? I mean, I’m interested too,
but like, we have a time limit, so……”
“Really sorry, Alo. Maybe after everything is over, and when we find time
again, we can look inside the shops together, so wait till then. The future of
this city…… no, the future of Ardezia is at stake here, possibly even the
fate of the world. We can’t spare much time on this yet, so just be patient,
okay?”
“…… I-I will, do my best and help you with all I can, Ryujin-sama! I will
follow you wherever you go!”
After Alo expressed her feelings full of emotion, I give her a pat in the
head, but then, I heard a voice from a woman in the distance. It sounded
familiar.
“I'm still surprised that Princess Chris invited me to her party, hahaha! I
really like being an adventurer, but I don’t know how I’d respond if they
invited me to be part of the knights……!”
Even when there are so many voices mixed among the crowd, for some
reason, that voice sounded nostalgic.
Well, the way she talks is definitely loud, so her voice sticks out like a sore
thumb, but I feel like that’s not the only reason.
It’s like I suddenly feel homesick or something.
Turning towards the voice, it was from a blonde-haired woman.
She’s dressed in light armor and carries a sword on her waist.
“Ah……!”
I remember now.
Back when I was a kid plague dragon, two female adventurers came to my
old cave and attacked me.
No wonder I felt nostalgic, she reminds me of my old home.
Though, I’d rather not remember a memory where I got my butt kicked……
While I was busy hiding from a girl, Alo looks at me with cold eyes.
Those eyes were exuding the very death from Alo’s〖Undead〗. W-What’s
wrong, Alo……?
“Ryujin-sama, we can’t spare much time, those are your words, please
follow through with them……”
Chapter 72: Yeah…this is
a dungeon
“Selen, now that it’s spring, there’s something I’d like us to look into.”
“And that is?”
“To the west of the village, there’s a rocky area, but there’s something a
little unusual about it.”
“In what way?”
“For some reason, this place isn’t recognized as under my control.”
The journey from the village up to the rocky area was at most 10
kilometers. The dangers along the way should be nothing compared to the
fight against the orc horde.
Besides, this wasn’t the first time for me to leave the village: I have been to
the elves’ hamlet in the monster-infested forest.
◇ ◇ ◇
The hunting team led by Selen has journeyed toward a certain rocky area.
The hunting team had more members since the addition of the elves to the
village, but only 15 were selected to come to this mission.
“At first glance, nothing looks out of the ordinary in this place…but if
Luke-dono says so, then there must be something else going on.”
Among those that came to the mission was Philia the elven warrior.
Having both [Bow Techniques] and [Green Magic], she was a great addition
to the hunting team.
Some of the other members that came along were Balrath who had [Sword
Techniques], Noel who had [Shield Master Techniques]. And Goate who
had [Herculean Strength].
As long as nothing gravely dangerous happens, their fighting force should
be more than enough.
The one to state that was a member who had the [Beast’s Sense of Smell]
Gift.
Much like its name might suggest, this Gift allowed its user to have a sense
of smell similar to that of a beast. Being able to detect an approaching
monster made them a valuable member of the hunting team.
“That big boulder near the center there…I’m getting a bad feeling from
over there.”
Another valuable member was the one who had the Gift called [Danger
Perception].
Like that, they moved as a group toward the large boulder in the center of
the rocky area.
When they eventually reached the place, they discovered something.
“Is this…”
“A cave?”
The group was wary, but they decided to take a peek inside. The hole
sloped downwards gently and continuously. Yet, for all its depth, there
didn’t seem to be any kind of obstacle in the way.
『……』
““……A’re?””
“Wha,what? Why are you looking at me!? Th,the enemy is over there!
O,oy, stop! Don’t get closer!”
““Err…… this is……””
Seiji and I are puzzled by the sight that looks familiar somehow.
It’s just like, at the time I fought with the S class teacher in the rivalry of
Barbador Magic Academy; the situation was exactly the same as when the
magic released by the other party returned to the other party as it was.
In other words ……
“No,no way…… thi,this shouldn’t be…… Impossible, this is impossible!
My power, repeatedly――――”
『――――!』
“Do,don’t comeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!”
The pieces that Gemper had created, attacked Gemper all at once!
Gemper desperately swings his arms, perhaps trying to erase his own
pieces, and tries to escape, but as Al said, Gemper himself has no fighting
power, he can’t fight at all, and he has been severely beaten up like no
other.
Not only me and Seiji, but also Saria and the others were stunned by the
sight, and each of the pieces turned around, and give a thumbs up.
“Sto,stop ―― bogyagugeryuheboraoebeaijiekega!?”
When Seiji and I nodded to each other, we ignored Gemper and went under
Elemina-san.
◇◆◇
When I freed Elemina-san, she muttered in a way that she still can’t believe
it.
She was wounded and in tatters when she was restrained, so I released and
healed her at the same time.
Then Al responds to Elemina-san’s words with a sigh.
“If you’re surprised at something like this, your body won’t be able to keep
up. If you’re together with Seiichi ……”
“Yes……?”
“You couldn’t understand that his fake, which shouldn’t naturally betray
that man, just betrayed him with an ego …… No, I myself couldn’t believe
it……”
“Al, it’s okay. Since I didn’t even understand what happened.”
“That’s the most unconvincing thing, you know!”
I know right.
When Seiji and I were all smiling wryly, Al finished restraining Gemper.
“Oh well. Elemina-sama’s rescue has been completed, and we were able to
recover this guy, which is the cause of this incident. I’m thinking of going
back to the royal capital for a moment, but is that okay?”
When I asked Elemina-san that, Al opened her eyes as if she had noticed
something.
When I’m told with that, I’m not completely confident, but I need to fight
them someday.
If so, it would be better to fight them before he can make a full revival, and
they may have caught other people besides the S-class adventurers.
When I was thinking about such things, Elemina-san makes a grim
expression.
“The place where the hideout of the 【Demon God’s Cult】 was located, is
at a certain dungeon.”
“But, unlike a normal dungeon, the dungeon where the Demon God is
sealed can’t be found in this world. It seems that it’s isolated in another
space, so apparently, we need to use a magic circle that exists in a certain
place.”
“A certain place?”
“――――【Underworld】”
『!?』
We opened our eyes to the unexpected place.
To our state, Elemina-san sighs.
“? What’s wrong?”
“Tha,that’s…… it’s the underworld, but …… perhaps, I can go there, you
know?”
“How!?”
“Yo,you can go …… to the underworld!? It may be, but it’s not like you
were going to die, right?”
“Ye,yes. Rather, I can go there normally ……”
“What do you mean by you can go there normally!?”
No, that’s, I didn’t die…… you can say that I was forcibly transferred ……
“If that’s true, then I’d like to hear a lot about that place, but let’s proceed
on the premise that you can go to the underworld for the mean time. I
couldn’t really investigate the inside of the underworld, but it seems that
somewhere in the underworld there is a magic circle leading to the dungeon
where the Demon God is sealed. If you use that, you should be able to
invade their hideout.”
“I see……”
“So, what will you do? Are you really going?”
“……Yes. However, if it is such a dangerous place, the I, alone, ――――”
“Of course, I’ll go too!”
“Eh?”
I open my eyes.to Saria who raised her hand energetically next to me.
Then, not only Saria but also Al and the others raised their hands.
“Bu,but, the destination now is the underworld, and above all, it’s the base
of the enemy, right? In such a dangerous place……”
“Seiichi. I’ve been together with you since the time at the 【Forest of
Endless Love and Sorrow】, and I’ll continue to be with you. Moreover, we
have overcome dangerous things together, and no matter what happens, it’ll
be fine if there’s Seiichi!”
“I,it’ll be fine if I’m there, you said……”
I’m not really sure about that because the world’s consideration is terrible
these days, but there’s no guarantee that they would really be safe.
However, as long as they put their trust on me in this manner, I will do my
best to answer those feelings.
Looking over at Al and the others, they all nod with a serious expression.
Then Seiji, who had been silently watching over the situation, raised his
hand.
“If it was the case, that Gemper was going to be beaten by Seiichi and I, but
now that he’s gone, I have spare time.”
“Spare time!? We,well, you were created as a copy, so aren’t you going to
disappear?”
“Ah…… it looks like I’m fine”
“What’s going on? That body of mine is ……”
“That’s what I want to ask. But, you don’t have to worry about me
disappearing until I deliver her, since it seems like I’ll disappear at my own
will.”
It’s strange why Seiji, who was created by the enemy’s ability, could move
so freely.
Well, the other copied people were either killed or had disappeared on their
own, so Seiji is the only one who isn’t normal. …… No, the female version
of me is the same too.
In the end, my copies are strange!
“Alright, then…… let’s go. To the base of the 【Demon God’s Cult】!”
Finally, we set out for the base of the 【Demon God’s Cult】.
he Principle of a Philosopher by
Eternal Fool “Asley” – Chapter
196, An End of a Struggle
At the west gate, Lala was fighting with all her power. Her speed was
greater than that of warriors, confusing the ranks of the monsters.
With eye-popping movements, she got herself behind monsters and invoked
magic spells right at their backs.
“…Hmm.”
Since mages were usually assigned to the rear guard, Idéa and Midors were
taken aback by Lala’s unusual fighting style.
“Seriously? Did she just write her magic formulas ON the Lizard Flies? She
sounds bored out of her mind, though… What’s the deal with her?”
“You think she’s faster than even Egd? -Ngh, Fire Arrow!”
As the two were fighting from on top of the wall, Tzar overheard them, and
in the corner of his eyes…
“For Lina!”
“”Indeed she is. Their standards for comparison are far too low. Still, We
cannot deny that Egd has been showing improvements… And now, We are
up against an Otyugh – not something We ought to fall to…
KAHHHHH!””
“Midors.”
Although he did not think all that deeply about what that entailed, Midors’
answer had always been set in stone.
And if one were to ask why, it was because he did not feel any irregularity
in Haruhana’s words.
“You got it! Doing things your way – that’s what being an adventurer is all
about, right?! Ora! Icicle Lance!”
“Egd! Duck!”
“Huh? Yes!”
Following Haruhana’s call, Egd crouched down and dodged the Ogre
Fighter’s greatsword right as it swung past.
“…Oh?!”
Egd rolled over and faced up, getting ready to parry the Ogre Fighter as it
swung its sword down, but Haruhana beat him to the punch, swiftly
slashing at the monster in a horizontal arc.
The Ogre Fighter’s head dropped down at Egd’s feet. Haruhana then
proceeded to head towards the Hobgoblins that were approaching from the
front.
[She has come because she has judged that there are not enough warriors
down here… Hmm. Good decision-making and perception.]
“Whew, I’d never thought Miss Haruhana would have eyes on me as well…
hah-hah!”
“……”
Tzar was quite irritated, as one would expect, and decided to ignore Egd’s
ramblings from this point on.
With eyes of lukewarm mood, he turned back to observe Haruhana. Egd, on
the other hand, sent Haruhana a sincere and refreshing yell with words of
encouragement and affection… in his own way.
Idéa, hearing that all the way from on top of the wall, got goosebumps all
over, she proceeded to shout,
“Bwaaahhh! Of all the lines he could pick, he just went for the worst ones
ever!”
Seeing Idéa hold her own arms and shivering, Midors was quite
exasperated.
At the same time as Midors’ scolding, Idéa heard voices coming from
behind, loud and resonant.
Idéa could not turn around since the airborne monsters in front of her were
still coming, but she did hear the cheers of those behind her, the adventurers
and low-ranking mages, who had gone to provide support inside the town
on buildings’ roofs. Approaching from further back from them were
countless footsteps… and a unified war cry.
Midors’ expression lightened up upon realizing what that was.
“Reinforcements from the Warrior University! Finally!”
“And Sir Dragan is in the lead – oh, for God’s sake! The big man sure likes
to take his sweet time!”
The pair, their backs against the other’s, shouted as they swatted the
airborne monsters away with their staves.
Idéa looked back at the town for a moment, perhaps feeling somewhat
relaxed by the long-awaited arrival of reinforcements. She could clearly
hear the rumbling of their march. Seeing the ones in the lead from on top of
the wall, one was sure to feel at least some peace of mind.
It was but a brief moment – but that brief moment was all a random Wyvern
needed to take Idéa by surprise, biting her staff and holding it down.
“Ngh-!”
The first to notice that happening was Lala. Idéa was crouching down and
facing away from the Wyvern, her eyes opened wide. Lala started to run
toward the Wyvern as it terrorized the former, but then Midors rushed
straight at it, throwing his massive body at the monster.
“NWOHHHH! -Gah?!”
Although he got his shoulder bitten into by the Wyvern’s razor-sharp fangs,
he managed to pin it down.
As she swung her right hand, a root-like plant extended from it, wrapping
around her arm and taking the shape of a sword.
Midors, seeing that Lala had proceeded to swing it right down, shouted in a
panic,
“Whwhwhwh-whoa?!”
In one slash, the Wyvern got a long cut from the back of its head all the way
to the tip of its tail. It was now robbed of the strength to even fly.
Midors barely managed to land on the wall safely. Idéa approached him,
worried about his injuries.
Idéa nodded as if to remind herself to do just that, but then she noticed that
Midors was now bleeding from a place other than his shoulder.
“Oh?”
Midors noticed blood dripping from the tip of his nose, so he traced it up…
and realized exactly where it was coming from.
There was a shallow cut on his forehead.
Lala, seeing that, wiped a drop of cold sweat from her face, looked briefly
at the Lala Blade on her arm, then muttered to herself,
As if to escape the scene, she proceeded to throw herself back into the fray.
At around the same time, Dragan hopped from building to building,
crushing their roof tiles before eventually reaching the top of the town wall.
Taking a mere instant to assess the situation, he looked at Egd, who was
currently fighting in the very front.
“Freshmen and Sophomores, defend the west gate! Juniors, assist the
adventurers! Seniors, run along the wall, head to the south gate!”
“”Yes, sir!””
Dragan instructed the Warrior University students below to draw their
weapons and prepare for battle, and as soon as he heard a clear response, he
plunged into the fray.
Idéa and Midors, though surprised by the change in the offensive
momentum after Dragan’s appearance, were now convinced that victory
was near. They proceeded to start drawing their Spell Circles again.
◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆
While the former inhabitants of Faltown – Reid, Ryan, Adolf, and Reyna –
were struggling to defend the south gate, reinforcements reached them in
the form of Magic University students, led by none other than Lina.
“Lina!”
“Mm – we’re having trouble dealing with these airborne monsters. Quite a
lot of them have already invaded the city.”
“This is bad, Lina! The enemies are all flying monsters, so there are not
enough people on the ground level!”
“Please give your instructions to me and Anri, Lina.”
“All right. Anri and Claris, take the remaining Senior students and head
downstairs. The Juniors and I will take care of defending the wall.”
Ryan, hearing that, felt happy for how much Lina had improved, but did not
refrain from providing a suggestion,
“Don’t mention it. This gate is far from being breached, we shouldn’t need
Sir Asley to keep it secure.”
Ryan thought back to when he had defended Faltown’s gate, and how Asley
had bailed him out of a fatal predicament.
He took a moment to chuckle dryly, then flipped his mantle and leaped
down the wall.
Looking on as Ryan went on his way, Lina looked to be puzzled by his
statement.
Once Ryan landed, he walked past in between Anri and Claris to get to the
front.
“”Yes, sir!””
Reid, Adolf, and Reyna did their best battling on the wall, fending off
enemies and guarding Lina.
While Reid fought, he also kept an eye on Adolf, since the latter was still
the least experienced of the group.
“Everyone, I understand that you may be worried about the other gates, but
we are defending a vital position. Don’t forget to watch each other’s
backs!”
Lina’s warnings resonated well with all of those who were in battle, but the
loudest response to it did not come from the Magic University students.
Rather, it came from those of the Adventurers’ Guild.
Lina had frequently shown up at the Guild, and made her true abilities
known to many with her hunting achievements, whether it be alone, with
Asley, or with Hornel. It had made her well-known among the people of
Beilanea.
As Lina’s voice resounded through the vicinity, the Warriors and Mages of
the Adventurers’ Guild felt a boost in their morale.
Down on ground level, Anri muttered to herself as she finished firing off
her Swift Magic,
“You know, she might surpass the Black Emperor one day… at least in
some aspects.”
“Heh heh, Sir Warren has never shown up at the Adventurers’ Guild, after
all.”
Claris said as she applied her Giving Magic spell onto Ryan, who stood on
the ready in front of her.
Streams of blue lightning ran through the ground and struck the monsters as
they landed.
Ryan, having adored Lina as if she were his own daughter, was quite
delighted to see how much she had achieved.
However, he reminded himself that he must not let such emotions show,
especially for her to see, in the middle of a battle.
Lina, on the other hand, actually was worried about Ryan as she observed
him from the top of the wall. Noticing that, Reyna offered her some words
to ease her fears as she fought off the monsters around her.
“It’s all right. Knowing Chief, he won’t have to hold back now that he
doesn’t have to worry for the safety of those behind him!”
She then swung her Blazing Dragon Staff, one she had received as a gift
from Gaston, and fired off a spell with Swift Magic.
Balls of hellish fire consumed the monsters, burning them to ashes. The
crimson flames danced along the wall, dropping rows and rows of monsters
that were clinging onto it.
At the same time, the mages who saw what Lina had just done could not
believe their eyes.
“Is it a special spell?! I haven’t seen anything about it in the papers I’ve
read!”
They would have shown an even stronger reaction if not for the fact that
they had to be careful of the monsters in front of them.
Witnessing such a shocking display of Swift Magic, even the
underclassmen of the Magic University were utterly amazed.
The method of converting large-scale spells to Swift Magic had been taught
to Lina by none other than Asley.
Naturally, Hornel and other close friends had also known of its existence,
but the rest of the populace had yet to be informed.
Although this meant it was the very first public showcase of the method,
Lina had no regrets in doing so.
[…It’s fine. Sir Asley would have used it in times like this. Wait, no, I HAD
to use it… He would’ve been angry at me if I didn’t… right?]
A moment later, Adolf, having finished killing the monsters in front of him,
looked ahead… and was promptly shocked by the other thing he saw.
“Damn it! We already got our hands full here, and they’re still bringing
MORE?!”
“Would you look at that… You’ve become able to use some decent flames
yourself.”
“Huh?”
Just as Lina was about to turn around, a magic spell formula flashed across
her field of vision.
Her attention shifted instead to the formula, tracing its path toward the
monster army. Right then, all of those near the south gate had their eyes
filled with an explosion of brilliant red.
“Heaven’s… Vermilion.”
The raging flames ripped through the earth, engulfing the monsters of the
surface.
But the breathtaking display of the finest magic was short-lived. The voice
behind Lina wasted no time to proceed to address those on the ground level.
Lina’s face was filled with joy. Gaston, as if to suppress her emotions,
pointed his staff forward.
“Yes, sir!”
Lina turned back again, holding her staff up to face the advancing enemies.
Fuyu stood next to her and started giving out instructions to the Magic
Guardians as they came up to the wall.
“We will now coordinate with the adventurers and Magic University
students. Move in groups of three and fill in the blind spots as you fight and
support them.”
“”HOOAH!””
“Overrun them.”
And as if in response to those words, Viola passed her command to those
down below.
“”OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!””
The other combatants also raised a war cry, as if to match up with the
Magic Guardians.
All this was thanks to the unexpected reinforcements and Gaston’s
presence.
Lina, too, put up an act of enthusiasm and gritted her teeth tightly, as if to
brush off her fatigue.
Seeing how Lina was putting up a brave front, Gaston raised an eyebrow.
[Hmm, still plenty of room for improvement. But then again, she’s achieved
this much before even turning twenty… One would consider this to be an
extraordinary showcase of talent. The young man sure has an impressive
apprentice under his wing…]
Gaston slightly raised the corners of his mouth as he jumped out of the
wall-top’s narrow space.
“Yes, sir!”
Later, as the continuous rain started to subside, as the glow of dusk tapered
to a thin line and the veil of night covered the sky, the last of today’s
monsters dropped dead on the ground.
This monster attack on Beilanea had plunged the people of the War Demon
nation into fear and insecurity.
The times truly were headed toward a dark era.
For some reason, I felt a look of great pity coming from behind me.
I could easily tell whomever it belonged to – none other than…!
Young Bright was giving me and Pochi a cold stare… and his facial
expression suggested that he was at an indecision over whether or not to
heave a sigh.
But I’d had no hand in this matter – it was but a part of Pochi’s selfish
shenanigans. All I was doing was playing along with her.
Perhaps to bail me out since I couldn’t bring myself to answer to Bright…
as I’ve been stuck making excuses to myself, Chappie answered him,
“It seems that mother and father are… practicing their ‘cool shouting’ in
preparation for battles against humans, which we likely will see more of in
the near future. This might be a good learning experience, Bright, so you
ought to observe as well-“
While Chappie was in the middle of his explanation, Bright had already
ignored him and started reading a magic textbook.
The boy’s efficient, that’s for sure.
He’d probably decided that he didn’t need it, and decided to spend his
precious time reviewing his studies instead.
Hmm, looks like he doesn’t have any interest in anything without ‘magic’
in its name.
Perhaps he needs more guidance – nope, in all seriousness, he doesn’t.
“All right! This is where the thugs enter the scene, sir!”
“…”
“……”
“ga…”
Although I was quite annoyed by how Pochi’s ears stood right up, I
proceeded to retrieve a pot and some ingredients from the Storeroom.
Meanwhile, Bright slapped his magic textbook shut and moved to the edge
of the nearby cliff.
…Hmm, looks can’t quite tell what he’s up to.
Chappie and Pochi dug up a small pit for a fire.
And while they were doing that, I kept an eye on Bright-
…Without time for distractions, I started cooking a meal for all of us.
Now then, how many days had it been since we’d gone through the cave?
Should be one week… right, should be seven days today.
Look down from the cliffside, and we’ll see the land of T’oued.
Ah, yes, the people of the East… Two days ago, I’d seen some of them
walking around with smiles on their faces, wearing clothes called ‘wasou’.
We had thought we could just jump straight in, but when we’d reached the
entrance checkpoint of Eddo, the capital of T’oued, we’d seen ‘them’.
The very people we’d let overtake us the other day, team Chiquiata of the
Douglas household… Never had we thought a simple checkpoint would
station someone that powerful.
Although I had thought it would be pointless for them to lay a net here, we
had indeed gotten caught in their machination, and were unable to do
anything since.
It seemed that the people of the Holy Nation – War Demon Nation in my
days – rarely entered this land, as apparent from the highway having only a
single person walking on it.
Meaning, so long as we don’t find another way… we’re as good as
stranded.
During the first day and a half, we had tried devising a plan to break our
way through, but ended up not getting any good ideas.
Being stuck in the same place and in such a frustrating predicament for a
long time, the Fulbright household’s young lad has been frequently
watching the enemy’s movements.
But here’s the problem – they’re not even moving at all.
After the meal, as I sat alone on the edge of a cliff, Pochi came to sit down
next to me.
“Burp…”
Pochi promptly shut her mouth in embarrassment, but with her eyes
retaliating with a defiant look. Wall, the same as usual.
“Wolves aren’t even supposed to worry about these things in the first place,
sir!”
Bah, no matter how many times I question her, it’s the same excuse back
every time… so much for a Familiar trying to act as if she lives in a human
society!
It’s nothing surprising, so to speak, but aside from Pochi’s insistent claims
of being a lady, there’s nothing about her suggesting that to remotely be the
case.
“I see…”
Hey, can’t blame me when no one’s been getting any ideas either.
The plan that was most likely to succeed was to have Chappie, the ‘Violet
Phoenix,’ to carry us over the border, one at a time… but he couldn’t be
separated from his parent figures – get too far from both of us, and he’d
panic so hard that he couldn’t move. That was one of his glaring
weaknesses.
I had no intention of spoiling him, but this seemed to be an instinctual
occurrence, so it didn’t seem like it could be fixed until the right time came
along.
And if he were to try getting more than one across at once, they’d probably
all plunge straight down to hell.
“Anyway… do you think everyone back home is doing all right, sir?”
“Lina, Tifa, Miss Irene, Sir Gaston… and Bruce, Haruhana, everyone in
The Silver… Yeah, they should be trucking along just fine.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
“Speaking of which, do you remember that thing you gave to Itsuki? Does
it actually work, sir?”
“Hmm, probably. If Tifa and Tarawo got closer to each other since then, it’ll
definitely work. I’ve made sure of it by using you as- oh, never mind.”
“Huh, weren’t you about to say some other thing there?”
“J-just don’t worry about it. So, you’re curious about that medicine or
something?”
“Aha. Yeah, he was originally a King Wolf Garm, so it should turn him
back without any issue… I think?”
“What?! You mean Tarawo can do like… SCHWING! And transform into
his former self?!”
Well then, apparently Pochi thinks that this kind of transformation ability
would be cool to have.
But true, it’s quite an attractive notion, a little beast being able to suddenly
change its form into a gigantic, powerful monster.
……Huh? A transformation? ……Aha!
“PWHUH-?!”
Tanato-san muttered, Icicle javelin hit the ghoul’s demon core directly.
“Maybe the hole was a little small. I think it’s better to make it a size that
has a margin, not the size of the devil’s core.
“Oh, let’s do it.”
There was no particular problem with me alone, but the search was very
stable with the accompanying talented person named Tanato.
When I reached the 45th floor, a large room appeared at the end of the
aisle.
When I measured the size of the room with “Physical Detection” and the
approximate quality and number of monsters with “Magic Sensing”, it was
a medium-sized monster house.
“There are quite a few. Moreover, there may be three high-ranking species
with strong magical reactions.”
“Um, it’s a high ghoul. It’s a monster with physical and thinking abilities
that is comparable to ghouls and zombies.”
I thought that the higher-ranking species would come soon because the
level of monsters would rise by dividing them into five levels, but was the
first encounter going to be with a monster house?
Oh, by the way, I didn’t use a sword because there was no room for the
enemy to approach after joining Tanato-san.
The ghouls attacking with slow movements are separated from the
demon core at Iai and cleared up instantly.
I walk toward high ranks while turning the small fish into ashes.
“What …”
When I turned around thinking that there was no support from Tanato-
san, Tanato-san who regained himself used an Icicle cylinder and Began to
slaughter the ghouls.
As the enemy’s wall decreased, I and high rank’s eyes crossed.
“Gugao !!”
High ghoul, who noticed me, rushed to me with his eyes shining
brightly.
Along with that, the movements of the surrounding ghouls become
quicker and attack.
It seems that the movement of the subordinates is controlled by the effect
of “army command” possessed by the upper species.
“Huh!”
The ghouls who approached all at once from the surroundings were
Blown away with air strike.
I stepped on the ground with my right leg, looking sideways at the ghouls
who were knocking down the dominoes.
“Fushiikazuchi”
――Bachichichichichi! !!
A lightning strike runs around the ground in an instant from the ground
that has been trampled.
It’s still bad practice, but it’s more efficient than before because I’ve been
playing with some techniques from the martial arts festival.
I haven’t raised that much output, but it’s still enough to stop the ghouls.
The ghouls around them spewed smoke from their mouths and crawled
on the ground.
The lower part of the body or the part on the ground is carbonized, and it
is not in a state where it can fight properly. It can be said that this was
almost completely incapacitated.
On the other hand, High ghoul was approaching, while making a painful
moan.
Is it a place like a high-ranking species? The lower species have thick
magical power that is only thinly worn, and it seems that magic resistance is
also high.
“Gugee !!”
High ghoul shook his sharp claws with magical power with agility that
could not be thought of as undead.
I calmly assess the movement and parry the claw attack with a sword.
Weapons that rub against High ghoul’s sharp claws make the sound of
metal rubbing and scatter sparks.
I immediately struck two swords on High ghoul, who had been parried by
the attack and lost his posture, and buried him.
High ghoul was a little harder than the lower species, but it was still weak
enough to be easily cut off.
The attack is moderately powerful, but if it doesn’t hit, there’s nothing
wrong with it.
Since I have determined the ability of High ghoul to some extent, I will
not hesitate to slash.
He knocks down the ghouls and slashes them, and immediately
approaches another high ghoul.
“Gugyoe !?”
“Haha, huh … hmm, don’t worry about it. Let’s take a break here for the
time being. You’ve used that much magic, it’s going to be pretty painful.”
“No, I’m okay–“
“Don’t overdo it. It’s boring to come here and die for you.”
“……I understand”
Tanato-san put his hand on his chin and was thinking about something.
“By the way, Sirius, are you a student at Adventurer’s School at that age in
Central?”
“Yes”
“HM……”
I felt that the corner of the mouth of Tanato-san who started walking
ahead of me was lifted.
“We’ve arrived.”
“Uh, uh …”
At about 3 o’clock in the middle of the night, I finally reached the 47th
floor.
I’m sorry that I couldn’t let Tanato-an go to sleep anyway, but he said he
could afford to stay up all night, so we are able to proceed to this point with
only a short break.
I think the time required was 18 hours, which was a reasonable speed.
On the way back, we should be able to return fairly quickly if we follow
the route mapped along the way.
After a pause of about an hour, we will continue to explore the 47th floor
while slashing the increasing number of high gurus as we go downstairs.
I feel that Tanato-san’s complexion is pale somewhere, but is that okay?
“Tanato-san, are you okay? I’m watching, so do you want to sleep a little?”
“No! Well, I can afford it! Well, if Sirius wants to take a rest–“
“I’m still okay …”
“… Um, me too …. Is it going?”
Is it really okay …?
No, he’s such a high-ranking magician, and he won’t go crazy beyond his
limits.
I’m still exhausted, and I may have been too worried.
Tea is brewed in boiling water made by water magic and fire magic, and
given to Tanato-san.
Tanato-san sipped tea with his eyes closed and exhaled.
“Thank you, Sirius. It was a tough road for the old body, probably because I
had never imposed a quota to go through the labyrinth …”
“Sorry, if I noticed a little earlier …”
If you think about it, was it that time, or even earlier? Anyway, I should
have taken a good rest when I felt that Tanato-san was tired.
“No, it’s not your fault …. By the way, I’d like to talk to you, but can you
sell the High ghoul’s demon core that you’ve picked up so far? Of course,
I’ll pay a premium for it. I was diving in the labyrinth to collect it. I was
thinking of diving a little more to collect it after parting from you, but since
there were surprisingly many appearances so far, it would be helpful if you
could give it away … How about it? Of course, you can decline it. “
From the beginning, I felt sorry for taking all the magic cores, so I
accepted without thinking.
Rather, I tried to give half of it for free, but after some discussion I
eventually handed it in exchange for gold coins.
I don’t know the price because I encountered High ghoul for the first
time, but it seems to be quite high considering the guild purchase price of
other materials so far.
“What happened? Did you get separated from the party members?”
The soldier was watching this with a look of a mixture of worries and
suspicions.
Tanato-san is … it feels like he was pinched by a fox.
For the time being, I don’t want the soldiers to be suspicious anymore, so
I decided to leave Tanato-san for the time being.
“… No, nothing.”
“… Hmm. But I’m sorry, but it’s a bit credible that you, a 12-year-old C-
rank, came to such a place solo … I’ll do some interrogation, so follow
me.”
“I’m sorry, I know what you mean … Who are you before that? Do you
have the authority to officially belong to the Adventurer’s Guild and detain
me who is adventuring?”
A muscular man who was approaching after the soldier suddenly dropped
his knuckle on the soldier.
“Hey! What are you doing to catch the adventurer! Did you forget that we
have a rule that should not interfere with the adventurer’s search !?”
When the bossy, muscular man shouted in a loud voice, the soldier who
was asking and answering sweated.
“Huh, Deputy Chief !? No, no! this child was lost, so I’m trying to protect
him !!”
“Children? Hmm, I see. You, treating an adventurer with this skill as a child
is a big deal, isn’t it?”
The man called the captain glanced at me with a grin, hoisting the corner
of his mouth.
The soldier who heard the words took his eyes off.
“… Huh?”
“That’s why you can’t get out of the apprenticeship. You can’t see the skill
of the other person because you’re confused by their appearance. Don’t
neglect to observe!”
“Yes! I wasn’t good!”
“I’m sorry that we got entangled strangely, Adventurer. I’m Warren, I’m the
deputy chief of the Labyrinth Capture Corps. I think you heard that the
Corps wouldn’t interfere with the adventurer. Rest assured that there aren’t
any. Well, there are a lot of annoying people from here onwards, so in that
sense it might be a nuisance. “
“I’m Sirius, thank you so much.”
“I’m going to be thankful. By the way, are you going to dive below this?”
“Today I’m thinking of turning back to this level …”
“Well … I know you’re a pretty big adventurer, but let me give you one
piece of advice. You shouldn’t think that the bottom is the same as the
previous level. It has reached the 49th floor, but it seems that the number
of monster houses has increased and it has become quite troublesome.
Moreover, the 50th floor is an unexplored boss room. There are countless
A-rank adventurers who have been sacrificed. …… I’m not crazy about
it. “
Warren, seems like a good guy but looks like a rough man, didn’t look
good and worriedly lowered his eyebrows.
“Thank you for your concern. I’m not going to go crazy, so don’t worry.”
“Hmm … this is the face of the guy who sticks to what he wants to do.
Well, be careful?”
Warren gave up and shook his head.
I’m not really going to go crazy, but … I want to aim for the 50th floor.
I’m sure that feeling has appeared on my face.
I could only make a bitter smile.
“Hmm … I’m sorry I stopped. You’re a master! … Hey, Abel! Didn’t you
see Captain Aho !? I’ll teach you a lesson! “
After all, the sleep time on holidays is about two hours in two days.
Although it does not hinder my life, I am drowsy.
In this world, not only energy drinks but also coffee is not found and
caffeine cannot be consumed efficiently, so it is not possible to make it as
unreasonable as in the previous life, so I have to be careful.
Next time, let’s roast the beans and make something coffee-like.
“Mmm, Sirius is busy … yes, do you eat this Mad Bull’s bone-in meat? If
you eat this after training, you’ll have good muscles!”
He is a man who can be sensitive and considerate of people regardless of
his dynamic appearance. Regardless of the content of concern, though.
“I’ve just finished my meal … I’ll just accept your feelings, thank you.”
Lancelot, who was watching our exchange with a bitter smile, put his
elbows on his desk, leaned forward, and started talking in a whisper.
“Well, isn’t today’s school tingling? Or rather, Sirius, aren’t you being
glared at by various guys? And they’re all bad guys. Did you have a
grudge?”
“No … I have no idea …”
Certainly, I can feel the line of sight from various places since I went to
school today.
No, if it’s just feeling the line of sight, it’s been the usual thing these
days, but as Lancelot says, it doesn’t seem to be a line of sight with very
good emotions.
No harm has been done so far, but it doesn’t feel good.
Black had his face messed up with Zion-senpai and was holding his gun.
On the other hand, Senior Zion kept smiling and talked to Black in a
friendly manner.
“Ah? Kid, what are you going to do in a place like this with two people?
Kid You don’t have the right to use such a fine place for a slapstick that
gives you the number one spot! ?? “
As Black continues to point his guns at close range, Senior Zion shrugs
his shoulders as if in trouble.
“Huh … Bo-Black, what don’t you like? You can’t help losing.”
“I can’t help it … Daa …? I’m gonna be the number one, but I was working
hard while you were having a feast? Why don’t you come back? You’re
losing terribly !? Besides, … It’s Fuzaken !! You can’t believe it !! “
Black shouted out loud at a close distance, and Zion closed his ears while
squinting as if he was in trouble.
Senior Zion pushed Black’s shoulders with both hands, which seemed a
little annoying, and took a distance.
“How old doesn’t matter but how strong one is, don’t you know best?
Former genius boy Bob, a rare youngest enrollee “
“Don’t call me by that name! Chi … Already! Gaki … I’ll train you in
place of the stale Zion !! Come on!”
Bra … Senior Bob glanced at me and shook his head towards the arena.
To be honest, I was confused because I couldn’t keep up with the
development, and my senior apologized and lowered his eyebrows.
“Well … that seems to be the quickest story … Sirius, I’m sorry, but I’ll ask
Bob for a fight.”
“Ah?”
It’s unclear whether he was angry due to the name of Bob or due to the
attitude of the senior, but senior Bob turned bright red and made the blood
vessels stand out.
Senior Bob finally leaked his energy from his body and leaked it from his
body.
The yankee, which turns bright red and trembles and steams, is a
terrifying sight to say the least.
Around the same time, Hikaru and Paula were at the Adventurers Guild.
The whole town was restless as tomorrow was the last day of the year—
New Years’ Eve as it was called on Earth—when the Flower Festival would
be held.
While no adventurers took jobs around this time, the diligent soldiers of
Dream Maker still picked up commissions. That didn’t mean the guild was
deserted, however.
「What’s with all these people?」
「There’s so many of them…」
Adventurers crowded the guild, all the way outside.
「Did you see?!」
「I sure did! Such intensity. Rank A adventurers are on a whole other
level.」
「Did you see his sword?! And those muscles! Damn, so cool! Who cares
about rank? I wish they’d let me into their party.」
「They’ll probably turn you down.」
「Oh, I get it now.」Hikaru said.「It’s because the Master Swordsman and
the Beastman King suggested gathering more adventurers.」
「What do you mean?」Paula asked.
「They’re recruiting adventurers on a grand scale for the expedition to
Grand Dream. I guess the big names are coming in droves.」
Up until now, recruitment was done only in Ville Zentra’s guild, and it was
only for an escort job so the Adventurers Guild could open up a branch in
Grand Dream. But it was different now. Adventurers from all over the land
were drawn in by the sweet smell of treasure.
「Let’s just come back some other time.」
Hikaru came to the guild for the commission he put up. Lavia wanted to
purchase grimoires with unique fire or healing magic. He received word
yesterday that someone wanted to sell a book of healing magic, which
brought him here today. Then again, they weren’t really in a hurry, and he
had no energy to wedge his way in through the crowd.
「Let’s head back, then.」
「Yeah, let’s go—」
『If it isn’t Hikaru! Fancy seeing you here!』
Hikaru felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see a familiar face.
『Long time no see.』
『Oh, it’s just you, Selica.』Hikaru said.
『Is that how you greet a business partner?』
There were a few Pond Hotdog stores in Ville Zentra as well. Every time
Lavia spotted one, she’d be drawn to it like moth to a flame. As always ten
percent of sales were from the extremely spicy ones.
「Hey, look!」
「The Four Stars of the East?! This is my first time seeing them!」
「Why are they talking to that kid?」
「Maybe they’re asking for directions.」
「I haven’t heard of the language before, though.」
Selyse was standing behind Selica, wearing a radiant smile. What went on
inside her mind, however, was a mystery. Sarah seemed careless, yet she
watched her surroundings warily. Sophie gazed at Hikaru with cold eyes,
and cast glances as warm as the sun at Paula.
Speaking in Japanese drew attention from the people.
「It’s cold out here. How about we talk inside?」Selyse said, pointing at
the Adventurers Guild.
News of the Four Stars arriving had already spread. Adventurers streamed
from the building, trying to catch a glimpse of the ladies.
「I humbly decline the offer.」Hikaru said.
「Come on, now. You have business with the guild, right?」Selyse insisted,
still wearing the same bright smile.
「No, I just happened to pass by.」
「It looked like you were at a loss because the guild was crowded.」
「A lady trusted by the Church’s top brass stealing glances? I’m
appalled.」
「We’ll go in with you and ask them to get whatever you want done
quick.」
Man, she’s a pain in the ass! Hikaru thought about turning her down once
more.
「What’s with that brat? He’s turning her down.」
「Who is he?」
「Let me look him up.」
Hikaru was beginning to leave an impression on the adventurers.
「Wanna go inside? Uh, I believe your name was…」
Selyse placed her index finger on her chin, pretending to recall Hikaru’s
name, as if threatening to disclose it. When Hikaru opened King Allegro’s
Treasure Chest, he specifically requested for his face to not be revealed. He
couldn’t do anything about the name, however. It would be terrible if people
found out that the name of the black-haired boy was Hikaru.
「Okay. I just want to confirm if the purchase commission I put up was
accepted. It shouldn’t take long.」Hikaru deliberately emphasized his
intentions. He wanted everyone to know that he wasn’t an adventurer.
Selyse’s eyes widened, not expecting his answer.「Let’s head inside,
then.」
Better end this quick, Hikaru thought as he started walking.
Selica hurried to his side.『By the way, we’re getting good profit from the
business. I was thinking of depositing the money to your account.』
『I wish you told me that sooner.』
Hikaru became flat broke after spending his every last cent for the people of
Dream Maker. He was lucky to find about King Allegro’s Treasure Chest. If
it weren’t for that, they would be suffering right about now.
『Did something happen?』she asked.
『Nah, it’s fine. How many stores have you opened anyway?』
『We’re almost at the hundred mark.』
『That’s a lot more than I expected. You have good business sense.』
『That’s right! I’ll have you know, my dad is an entrepreneur. I’ve heard a
lot of things related to his job, and I always wanted to try my hand at
something interesting. Unfortunately, I couldn’t achieve that back in Japan.
I really wanted to get my friend Hazuki on it too.』
Hikaru suddenly stopped.
『What’s wrong, young man?』
『Wh-What did you just say?』
『You mean my dad? He’s a cool—』
『Not that!』Hikaru drew close to Selica and grabbed her shoulders.
『Wh-What’s gotten into you?』
『Is Hazuki a family name?』
Hikaru’s heart was racing. He never thought he’d hear that name now.
Life will be rough for you. You may be clever, but you’re also reckless.
Someday, somewhere, you might just die unexpectedly.
If he had any lingering attachment to his previous life, it would be her.
Hikaru had not seen her after graduation, but her silhouette stayed in a
corner of his mind, emitting a dim light.
『Y-Yeah… Did I not tell you about my best friend before? We’ve known
each other since I started high school. Her full name is—』
Hikaru was speechless. No doubt about it. Her friend was Hazuki-senpai.
