BUTTERFLIES

by
BUTTERFLIES TEE

This is a simple T-shirt to knit and is easily

adaptable to any yarn or size thanks to its
straight shape.

The motif takes its inspiration from ancient

drawings of butterfly specimens for collections
and the appreciation of details.
details _
MATERIAL
PURE: 50 g / 100 m. 5 (6, 7, 8) skeins.
5.5mm needles.
80 cm and 100 cm cable.
4 stitch markers and a tapestry needle.

SIZES 1 (2, 3, 4)
Measurements are calculated to include positive ease of between 8 cm and 10 cm at
the chest.
Chest: 101 (111, 121, 131)cm
Length: 50 cm

GAUGE
10 x 10 cm in STOCKINETTE STITCH
With 5.5 mm needles 10 x 10 cm = 16sts x 18rounds

STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES USED

STOCKINETTE STITCH.
GARTER STITCH.
EYELETS. (explained in the chart)

CONSTRUCTION
This T-shirt is worked top-down, starting at the neck and increasing over the shoulders
to the required number of stitches for the chest.

Once you have the stitches required for the chest, you will work the front and back
stitches separately down to the armhole depth. Then you return to working all stitches
again in the round down to the desired length.

advice
To adapt the pattern to any size or yarn, bear in mind that:

My gauge is 10 x 10 cm = 16sts x 20rounds with 5,5 mm needles.

At this gauge, the chest measurements are:
70sts = 44 cm
90sts = 59 cm
Size 1 = 101 cm = 162sts.
Size 2 = 111 cm = 178sts.
Size 3 = 121 cm = 194sts.
Size 4 = 131 cm = 210sts.

To get the correct size for you in your yarn and needles, make a gauge swatch in
STOCKINETTE STITCH and note down the details here:
36 (38, 40, 42)cm
58 (62, 66, 68)sts
Your gauge 10 x 10 cm = ............sts x ............ rounds.

Measure around your chest and add the desired amount of positive ease.
Advice: for a bulkier weight yarn, add a little extra positive ease. I would advise
between 8 cm and 10 cm.

Your chest circumference = ............ cm.

Use these details to work out how many stitches at your gauge will give you the correct
chest circumference.

Chest circumference in stitches:

101 (111, 121, 131)cm

............ sts = ............ cm chest circumference x ............ sts in your gauge
162 (178, 194, 210)sts

10 cm

From this result, choose the size with the closest number of stitches at the chest to
your required number.
