Floodways: The low-lying area along the course of the river is known as floodways.

Floodways are vast

depressions into which a portion of flood water diverted from a river through a natural or artificial channel is

temporarily stored during rising flood. When the river floe recedes, the water is returned back to river. The

floodways is ordinarily used only during major floods. Floodways may be used for agriculture at other times.
