Topic: Scientific Method

General Objective: Students will be able to understand and use the steps in the scientific
method

Specific Objectives: At the end of this lesson students will be able to:

Define Science after a class discussion.

List at least 8 branches of science after a class discussion.

Define technology after a class discussion.

Demonstrate how the scientific method work.

Tell the effect of science and technology on daily lives.

Meteorology, Astrology, Matter, Quantity.

Content: Exploring Science Grade 7 Pages 6-11

Prior Learning: Students will require a basic concept of science and the role of scientists in the
world.
Assessment Criteria: Class Activity

Engagement:

Students will be asked to give their definition of science or to tell what science means to them.
Students will enter a guided discussion of what science is and what it seeks to achieve in the
world.

Exploration:

Students will then be allowed to view different pictures depicting the different branches of
science and be asked to tell what they think each picture shows. Students will then be given the
8 branches of science that corelates to the picture and be told what each branch covers and
who studies each branch.

Explanation:

Students will be informed that science seeks to answer the question Why and that when we
gain knowledge from exploring science, we are able to design and build the things that we want
and need.

Elaboration:

Students will be able to list advantages and disadvantages of science and technology by
discussion the positive and negative impacts of science and technology on the world today.

Evaluation:

Students will be given the branches of science to match with the picture and function of
science. Students will also be asked to define science and technology and tell how each impacts
our lies.
