I tend to hide the scars from my childhood by clothing and humour.

I'm willing to listen to every side of an argument before I make my own judgment.

No Limits. Nothing should fetter the infinite possibility inherent in all existence.

Self-Improvement. The goal of a life of study is the betterment of oneself.

I’ve lived with the Harpers for so long that my own ideals have been shaped by them.

Flaws

I am horribly, horribly awkward around people I don’t know.

Most people scream and run when they see a demon. I stop and take notes on its anatomy.

I overlook obvious solutions in favour of complicated ones.

A hidden village

It all started in a small town hidden within the High Forest called Alsam. This village was home to
some of the last pure Netherese people on the lands of Faerun. They upheld the Netherese culture
and people that joined the village had to do so too. One day, a stranger with a mysterious
background called Chromos seemingly teleported to the middle of the village out of nowhere. This
stranger looked on the brink of death. The people from the village helped the man so they could
know what happened. After an intense treatment, Chromos opened his eyes and fell in love with the
person right in front of him. The woman in question, called Phaele, had the same kind of attraction to
him. However, their journey to love had to wait as the villagers had questions for this man. Though
reluctant, he told them he was one of the last apostles of a long-forgotten deity called Chronos. He
told the villagers that he made a mistake with his magic, which resulted in him almost dying. If this
was the truth, no one would know. Something everyone did know, was that Chromos and Phaele
were deeply in love. Phaele would nurse him back to health and one thing led to another. After a
good 2 years, they were already married and were expecting a child.

A day of tragedy

Sadly, peace does not last forever. Soon after their daughter, whom they named Dawn, was born, an
evil Netherese arcanist named Tarchamus found their village. Tarchamus noticed the power of
Chronos coming from within the High Forest and went to investigate. Upon finding the village, he and
his apprentices slaughtered everyone except for one. The baby named Dawn who held the power he
was looking for. He took the child back to his library to be used for experiments. However,
unbeknownst to everyone, there was one more person that managed to escape. Chromos, who held
the power of time and space, tried to use this to teleport his family to safety. Sadly, his powers had
weakened after having a child and he only managed to teleport himself. Where or when he
teleported to, nobody knew (DM’s discretion).

A prison of knowledge

Once Tarchamus was back into his library, the experiments on young Dawn started. Tarchamus was a
legendary Netherese arcanist who was eventually stripped of his access to the Weave after he
destroyed Tenish, one of the Netherese floating cities. This meant he was never able to attain
lichdom but managed to preserve his life by transforming into an extremely powerful mummy.
However, he wanted his power back and what better way than to turn his time back to when he still
had access to the weave. This was why he wanted the baby with the power of Chronos. Thus, the
library of Tarchamus became a living hell for young Dawn.

Dawn herself never knew her parents for she was too young when Tarchamus captured and raised
her. The first few years her days had the same routine. She was experimented on in some of the
most painful ways imaginable. Examples of these were: trying to extract her blood and life essence to
see if it could be used to extract the power of time from her. There were also some good things going
around her, one was that Dawn was a smart child. The apprentices took notice of her trying to read
some of the books in the library and took pity on her. They taught her how to read and by the age of
4, she could already understand a lot inside the books. Reading those was also the only pastime she
had between the endless torture disguised as experiments. At the same time, she also learned about
this ability called magic and tried to do this herself. She seemed to have a knack for it, which did not
go unnoticed by Tarchamus. At the same time, he was also getting annoyed at his failures to harvest
the innate powers of Dawn. Humouring himself, he started to teach Dawn, which also meant the
experiments on Dawn lessened considerably.
After a few years of teaching Dawn, Tarchamus stopped his experiments on harvesting Dawn’s innate
powers. He hoped he could teach Dawn how to use her powers and return Tarchamus to his most
powerful state, on which he saw promise as Dawn’s body seemed to mature faster than normal due
to a subconscious use of her powers. This did not mean he stopped experimenting, as his mind was
as twisted as his love for research. Among his many experiments, there was a time he wondered if a
healing spell would even restore flesh when something was in the way. To test this theory, he once
lodged a metal pipe in Dawn’s stomach, front to back, and casted a healing spell on the area. It
seems the flesh grew around the pole and Dawn now has a hole the size of a metal pipe on the left
side of her stomach. He also tried using healing magic to reattach limbs, which wasn’t pleasant for
young Dawn. Another experiment was used to ‘fix’ Dawn’s neutral disposition. Tarchamus once
though it might’ve been easier to replace Dawn’s mind with one of his minions, so he tried
implanting the soul of a demon inside Dawn. This failed but made it so Dawn would hear the voice of
the demon in her head, who sometimes took control of her body when she was weak-willed or
unconscious, though the control of Dawn became stronger as she aged. Luckily, this hell did not last
forever.

A timely saviour

In 1478 AD at the age of 8, Dawn had already learned her first spell. Around the same time, a group
of people managed to find Tarchamus’ library and started exploring it. This group, led by Tam Zawad,
managed to defeat Tarchamus and destroy the library using his own spell: Tarchamus’ volcano.
Luckily, one of the group members named Allora managed to find Dawn who was locked away in
Tarchamus’ study. She broke her out while the others were fighting. They escaped the library, and
the party brought the young Dawn, who looked more like a teenager than an 8-year-old child, back
to waterdeep.

On the way, they asked Dawn about her time with Tarchamus. She told them everything, angering
the party. They were glad they defeated such an evil arcanist and tried to make Dawn feel better by
telling her tales of their adventure and the outside world. Allora, being the religious person she is,
decided to take Dawn under her wing, as the others had their own adventures to go on, which were
too dangerous for a child. She also wanted to have the church of Eilistraee look at her body and soul,
to see if things could be done against the demon. They arrived at Waterdeep after week.

Life in waterdeep

Once in Waterdeep, Allora brought Dawn straight to the church. They soon found themselves below
Waterdeep, in the promenade of the dark maiden. Dawn was fascinated by the intricate structures
under Waterdeep and studied them while passing through. In the church, Dawn was examined, and
the clerics noticed that the demon’s soul was almost entirely assimilated with Dawn. They could not
remove it, but they did teach her ways to suppress the demon. Allora even taught her a song to put
the demon to sleep should it ever go berserk. Other than that, the church helped Dawn to an identity
and were looking for a place for her to stay. As the harpers were still looking for people, and Allora
was also part of this organisation, they decided to have Dawn join them as an apprentice.

The harpers themselves were reluctant at first because she was so young but soon changed their
attitude when they saw her potential for magic. However, because Dawn was still young, they didn’t
start her apprenticeship immediately. She was brought to one of their safe houses, to help where
necessary and to study and learn about the harpers. During the first few years in the organisation,
she had to mostly go back and forth between the safe house and library to study the newly acquired
information and bring books related to the task at hand. Dawn herself didn’t mind as she is more the
studious type. At the same time, Allora helped Tam Zawad deal with corrupt harpers, keeping Dawn
safe. This made Dawn respect her saviour Allora even more, and they grew closer as guardian and
child. This meant Dawn’s ‘peaceful’ life continued for about a decade before Allora had to leave on a
long and dangerous mission. During the latter half of the decade, Dawn became more accustomed to
her life in the Harpers. Though she didn’t really score well on combat related subject and physical
training, her academic accomplishments were one of the highest. The people in charge of her Harper
cell were thinking of putting her into a non-combatant, research heavy role.

During her time in Waterdeep, she was also forced to join the watchful order of magists and
protectors as she was a wizard herself. Because she was still a minor during this period, the watch did
not put her on any dangerous missions, mostly firefighting or helping people using mundane magic.
She did attend their lectures and started becoming a better wizard by the day. However, when she
turned 16 and considered old enough to become a full member of the harpers, things started to
change.

Blaming oneself

In the year 1486 AD, Dawn had to partake in an initiation mission to become a full-fledged member
of the harpers. Under the leadership of Allora, they went outside the city to recover an artifact from
a band of thieves. Using the information gathered at the safe house and cross referencing them using
her knowledge of the Sword Coast’s geography, Dawn managed to find the exact location of the
thieves’ hideout. Thanks to this, they managed to get the drop on the thieves, but the fight did not
go well for Dawn. Though she’d gotten the gist of the battlefield and how to control it, she’d gotten
nervous as theory and practice don’t often align. Her timing was off most of the time, but she did
help a bit during the fight. However, she did find the hiding place of the artifact, so the mission was
successful. Allora reported this to her superior and Dawn was officially given apprenticeship to
become a full-fledged member of the Harpers. As an apprentice, she was put under Altair
Rosebloom, a human librarian that acted as a connection between the harpers in the field and the
research and deciphering squad. Given her personality, she was more focused on that last part.
During her apprenticeship, she also learned how to recognize a fellow harper, by the insignia they
can turn visible using a catchphrase. At this point, she was also given a job as a civil servant working
under (not directly) Remallia Haventree, a high-ranking agent of the Harpers. This way she had a
disguise for her identity as a Harper and a way to get information for the agents in the field and
rumours from the townfolk that came for business with the government.

However, in1489 AD, things changed for Dawn. She heard from Allora that she was going to Icewind
Dale to investigate certain things for both the harpers and the church of Eilistraee. Dawn wanted to
accompany her, but as she was still an apprentice, she wasn’t allowed to join. She did get to help set
up the teleportation circle for them to teleport to Icewind Dale, an event Dawn would never forget.

When they finished preparing the teleportation circle, the four adventurers, Allora, Ulitree, Tariel and
Torvin, went inside the circle. The wizards, with the help of Eilistraee, activated the circle. However, a
crack of lightning and an ominous black mist leaked from the teleportation circle as soon as it
activated. The circle exploded, making the room almost collapse. Once the smoke cleared, they
noticed none of the 4 adventurers were there anymore. However, 15 minutes later while
investigating the site, a magical disturbance arrived and two people appeared before them. One was
the body of the elf named Tariel, which was completely drained of life by the followers of the Raven
Queen who were trying to bring Allora to them but failed. However, no one knew this fact and they
thought something went wrong with the teleportation circle due to human error. In actuality, it was
the Raven Queen that interfered with the teleportation to get Allora back to her. This failed and
Allora was teleported safely to Icewind Dale. The other adventurers that accompanied her were less
fortunate. The dwarf Torvin found himself in a base full of Duergar, the elf Tariel was teleported to
the followers of the Raven Queen and was killed after staying silent on the whereabouts of Allora
before getting teleported back to Waterdeep. Lastly, Ulitree got caught between the cracks of time
and space due to interference from Dawn’s innate powers. However, her mind was unable to handle
this, and she landed in a coma after she got teleported back to Waterdeep.

Dawn, thinking that her innate powers caused this mess, started blaming herself. She hoped that
Allora made it to her destination safely but seeing the body of Tariel and the unconscious Ulitree, she
feared for the worst. After this incident, she started studying ways to fix the mess she thought she
caused, or at least a way to find out if Allora was still alive and where she was.

During the years that followed, Dawn managed to get herself well established within the Harpers.
She became a full-fledged Harper and decided to continue in the logistic side of things. Meanwhile
the watchful order of magists and protectors managed to also keep her busy with investigating
magic related incident and other stuff, with her being a civil servant and because she knows a lot
about the city’s geography. During her free time, she regularly visits the church of Eilistreaa to check
up on the still comatose Ulitree, hoping to gain more answers when she wakes up. Another pastime
for Dawn is doing her own research, either in one of the hidden bases of the Harpers or at her
workplace. One of her recent experiments has her focused on turning back time to revisit that fateful
day where the teleportation circle exploded so she could stop it. This research has currently only led
to failure, but she managed to understand the nature of time and space better because of it.

In the year 1491, Dawn was tasked by Remallia to help with the construction of The Dancing
Haven, a church dedicated to Eilistraee in the Northern ward that Remallia approved. She was
tasked with this due to her connection with the church. The next year, she started helping her old
mentor Altair at the place she currently resides as she was few on manpower. During her off days
and after hours, she would keep an eye out in their little library on Alnether Street. This library
acted as a little safe house for the Harpers of her cell and could be used to either spent the night or
request information about their next target. This was also the place that Dawn brought the secret
documents she acquired at her work.

One day in the summer of 1492 AD, after another failed personal experiment, she found herself
ordering the usual in the Yawning Portal tavern from her friend Bonnie. A glass of milk because
every good story starts with a glass of milk.
