About Your Security System

Your DS C Power832 Se curity System has b e en d esigne d to provid e you with the gre atest possible
flexibility and convenienc e. Re a d this manual c arefully and have your installer instruct you on your
system's op eration and on which fe atures have b e en implemente d in your system. All users of this
system should b e e qually instructe d in its use. Fill out the “System Information” p a g e with all of you
zone information and a c c ess cod es and store this manual in a safe pla c e for future referenc e.
Fire Detection
This e quipment is c a p a ble of monitoring fire d ete ction d evic es such as smoke d ete ctors and providing
a warning if a fire condition is d ete cte d. G ood fire d ete ction d e p ends on having a d e quate numb er of
d ete ctors pla c e d in a p propriate loc ations. This e quipment should b e installe d in a c cord anc e with
N FPA 72 (N.F.P.A., B atterymarch Park, Q uinc ey MA 02269). C arefully review the F amily Esc a p e
Planning guid elines in this manual.
NOTE: Your installer must enable the fire detection portion of this equipment before it becomes
functional.
Testing
To insure that your system continues to function as intend e d, you must test your system we ekly.
Ple ase refer to “Testing Your System” on p a g e 13 of this manual. If your system does not function
prop erly, c all your installing comp any for servic e.
Monitoring
This system is c a p a ble of transmitting alarms, troubles and emerg ency information over tele phone
lines to a monitoring station. If you ina dvertently initiate an alarm, imme diately c all the monitoring
station to prevent an unne c essary response.
NOTE: The monitoring function must be enabled by the installer before it becomes functional.
General System Operation
Your se curity system is ma d e up of a DS C Power832 control p anel, one or more Power832 keyp a ds
and various sensors and d ete ctors. The control p anel will b e mounte d out of the way in a utility closet
or in a b asement. The metal c a binet contains the system ele ctronics, fuses and stand-by b attery.
There is normally no re ason for anyone but the installer or servic e professional to have a c c ess to the
control p anel.
All the keyp a ds have an audible indic ator and command entry keys. The LE D keyp a ds have a group
of zone and system status lights. The L C D keyp a d has an alphanumeric liquid crystal display (L C D).
The keyp a d is use d to send commands to the system and to display the current system status. The
keyp a d(s) will b e mounte d in a convenient loc ation insid e the prote cte d premises close to the entry/
exit door(s).
The se curity system has several zones of are a prote ction and e a ch of these zones will b e conne cte d
to one or more sensors (motion d ete ctors, glassbre ak d ete ctors, door conta cts, etc.). A sensor in
alarm will b e indic ate d by the corresponding zone lights flashing on a LE D keyp a d or by written
messa g es on the L C D keyp a d.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
A security system cannot prevent emergencies. It is only intended to alert you and – if included –
your monitoring station of an emergency situation. Security systems are generally very reliable
but they may not work under all conditions and they are not a substitute for prudent security
practices or life and property insurance. Your security system should be installed and serviced by
qualified security professionals who should instruct you on the level of protection that has been
provided and on system operations. 1

Fire Escape Planning
There is often very little time b etwe en the d ete ction of a fire and the time it b e comes d e a dly. It is thus
very important that a family esc a p e plan b e d evelop e d and rehe arse d.
1. Every family memb er should p articip ate in d eveloping the esc a p e plan.
2. Study the possible esc a p e routes from e a ch loc ation within the house. Sinc e many fires oc cur at
night, sp e cial attention should b e given to the esc a p e routes from sle e ping quarters.
3. Esc a p e from a b e droom must b e possible without op ening the interior door.
C onsid er the following when making your esc a p e plans:
• Make sure that all p erimeter doors and windows are e asily op ene d. Ensure that they are not
p ainte d shut, and that their locking me chanisms op erate smoothly.
• If op ening or using the exit is too difficult for children, the eld erly or handic a p p e d, plans for
rescue should b e d evelop e d. This includ es making sure that those who are to p erform the rescue
c an promptly he ar the fire warning signal.
• If the exit is a bove the ground level, an a p prove d fire la d d er or rop e should b e provid e d as well
as training in its use.
• Exits on the ground level should b e ke pt cle ar. B e sure to remove snow from exterior p atio doors
in winter; outdoor furniture or e quipment should not block exits.
• E a ch p erson should know of a pre d etermine d assembly point where everyone c an b e a c counte d
for i.e.: a cross the stre et or at a neighbour's house. O nc e everyone is out of the building, c all the
Fire D e p artment.
• A good plan emphasiz es quick esc a p e. Do not investig ate or attempt to fight the fire, and do not
g ather b elongings or p ets as this wastes valua ble time. O nc e outsid e, do not re-enter the house.
Wait for the fire d e p artment.
• Write the fire esc a p e plan down and rehe arse it fre quently so that should an emerg ency arise,
everyone will know what to do. Revise the plan as conditions chang e, such as the numb er of
p eople in the home, or if there are chang es to the building's construction.
• Make sure your fire warning system is op erational by conducting we ekly tests (se e “Fire Alarm
O p eration” on p a g e 14). If you are unsure a bout system op eration, conta ct your installing d e aler.
• We re commend that you conta ct your loc al fire d e p artment and re quest further information on fire
safety and esc a p e planning. If availa ble, have your loc al fire prevention offic er conduct an in-
house fire safety insp e ction.

Maintenance
With normal use, the system re quires minimum maintenanc e. The following points should b e observe d.
1. Do not wash the se curity station with a wet cloth. Light dusting with a slightly moistene d cloth should
remove normal a c cumulations of dust.
2. The b attery/ b ell test is d esigne d to d etermine b attery condition. We re commend e d, however, that
the stand-by b atteries b e re pla c e d every thre e ye ars.
3. For other system d evic es such as smoke d ete ctors, p assive infrare d, ultrasonic or microwave motion
d ete ctors or glassbre ak d ete ctors, consult the resp e ctive manufa cturer’s literature for testing and
maintenanc e.

be made, and provide the FCC registration number and the ringer equivalence of the protective circuit.
FCC Registration Number: F53CAN-22839-AL-E
Ringer Equivalence Number: 0.1B
USOC Jack: RJ31X

TELEPHONE CONNECTION REQUIREMENTS Except for the telephone company provided ringers, all connections to the telephone network shall
be made through standard plugs and telephone company provided jacks, or equivalent, in such a manner as to allow for easy, immediate disconnection
of the terminal equipment. Standard jacks shall be so arranged that, if the plug connected thereto is withdrawn, no interference to the operation of the
equipment at the customer’s premises which remains connected to the telephone network shall occur by reason of such withdrawal.
INCIDENCE OF HARM Should terminal equipment or protective circuitry cause harm to the telephone network, the telephone company shall, where
practicable, notify the customer that temporary disconnection of service may be required; however, where prior notice is not practicable, the telephone
company may temporarily discontinue service if such action is deemed reasonable in the circumstances. In the case of such temporary discontinuance,

the customer’s terminal equipment incompatible with the telephone company facilities the customer shall be given adequate notice to the effect
modifications to maintain uninterrupted service.
RINGER EQUIVALENCE NUMBER (REN) The REN is useful to determine the quantity of devices that you may connect to your telephone line and
still have all of those devices ring when your telephone number is called. In most, but not all areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected to
one line should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices that you may connect to your line, you may want to contact your local
