WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF PLANT- LAYOUT.

Plant- layout is an important role in the timely execution of orders. An excellent plan reduces delays such as a lack of

space, long-distance material transports, and damaged work, allowing orders to be completed quickly.

DISCUSSED THE ADVANTAGE OF PLANT-LAYOUT.

* receipts, shipments and delivery of inputs and finished goods. * Provides adequate and convenient storage facilities. *

Permits the maximum possible output with same input. * Paces production & determines production flow.

DISCUSSED THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PLANT-LAYOUT.

The characteristics of a plant layout are;

*Smooth flow of production

- is a process where all the information that is relevant to a manufacturing job is delivered consistently and smoothly

through every step of the process – from sales, to planning and design, all the way through to manufacturing

engineering and then production.

*Maximum utilisation of available space

-for example, is the capacity of your building divided by its occupancy. This offers you a proportion of how much of your

workplace space you’re actually using against how much is unused. Many firms struggle with choosing the best use of

space.

*Facilitating the movement of men, materials and machines, etc.

- There must be enough space between equipment to allow raw materials, personnel, and machines to move freely from

one location to another without fear of an accident.

*Involves minimum handling

-The many machines in a good layout must be organized in such a way that the output of one activity can be passed on

to the next with minimal handling. Raw material waste and labor hours will be reduced.

*Provides better working conditions

- You have a right to a safe and healthy workplace that is suitable for all employees and visitors. This means that your

employer must consider things like space, cleanliness, lighting, and ventilation, as well as adequate restroom, washing,

and changing facilities.

*Flexibility

A good layout should be adaptable enough to accommodate changes in management policies.

*Locations of stores

-Raw materials, tools, equipment, and other supplies must be simply and quickly delivered to the departments concerned

from the plant’s stores/storage.

*Facilitate supervisions and control

- Control is facilitated since the supervisor keeps a tight eye on his subordinates when under supervision. Wherever he

detects problems in the work-in-progress, he fixes them right away. By comparing actual and desired work performance,

variances are identified from time to time.

*Provision of safety

-In every factory, safe means of access should be provided and maintained at every place where the workers work.

*Co-ordination and integration

-A decision to produce some new or modified items may entail a reorganization of the existing plant or the installation of

extra facilities if the plant structure is efficient enough.
