NAME: SHREYA BHATI

ROLL NO: 1429

COURSE: B.A. PROGRAM (GEOGRAPHY+PUNJABI)

ASSIGNMENT: PARAPHRASING THE POEM “BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP”

The poet expresses through Bonds of Friendship the nature of his friend, which has been
consistent throughout the start of their friendship. He describes his friend as a kind and
helpful person who is genuine with his expressions and has a good sense of humor.

He describes his friend as having childlike innocent and bright eyes. Their friendship
developed very swiftly, because of how genuine a person his friend is. He was a very
soft-spoken person who wouldn't spew hurtful things, was funny and people liked hanging
around him.

In the third stanza, the poet tells us how he and his friend grew up together, how they shared
their dreams and plans and laughed together, and how they sometimes had crushes on the
same people.

Poet talks about the separation from his friend as time passed. How their life paths changed
as they started going on their different journeys. They both got consumed in their own
interests and invested most of their time in them.

The poet is now talking about how the two friends forgot the freedom they felt in their
younger years, they didn't make effort to keep in contact with each other and went on
experiencing life’s ups and downs by themselves.

The poet in this stanza seems to have come across an extremely challenging situation in his
life and is having a difficult time. He says that he has locked himself out from people to avoid
getting hurt.

Here poet tells us that his friend has returned to his life unexpectedly. Even though the poet
and his friend hadn’t remained in contact for all these years, it felt like they had been
together the whole time. The poet’s friend listened to him carefully and reassured him that he
was still loved and cared for by his friend.

The poet says he has many feelings that are hidden in the corners of his consciousness that
he hasn't told his friend yet, but as time will go by, he will slowly reveal everything to him.

The poet uses the last para to express his thanks for his friend, for showing him, love. He
considers his friend to be a blessing that he doesn’t think he deserves.
