Kishori Shakti Yojana (KSY)

• Kishori Shakti Yojana (KSY) has been introduced to by Ministry of Women and child
Development. This scheme aims to empower adolescent girls (Age) of 11–18 years with focus
on out-of-school girls. (Special focus on out of school girls).
• It emphasis on their nutritional and health status and upgrading various skills like home skills,
life skills and vocational skills.
• This scheme is a redesign of the already existing Adolescent Girls (AG) Scheme being
implemented as a component under the centrally sponsored Integrated Child Development
Services (ICDS) Scheme.
• It targets adolescent Girls (11-18 yrs.) - both school going and out of school girls.
• The new scheme fosters convergence with other sectoral programmes, addressing the
interrelated needs of adolescent girls and women.
• It focuses on education with particular attention on school dropouts and functional literacy
among illiterate adolescent girls.
• Educational activities should be conducted through non-formal education pattern.
• Non formal education is provided to adolescent girls. It gives physical, developmental and sex
education and help them gain a better understanding of their social environment and take
initiatives to become productive members of the society.
