3 Hello there! Welcome to our first episode of Creative Writing here on Englishpod.

4 I am Teacher Ann, your podcastamazing facilitator for today’s lesson.

5 I am excited for another practical and useful lesson for you, our dear Grade 11 learners.

6 So, sit tight. Grab a pen and paper, and open your Learning Activity Sheet on Creative

7 Writing, Quarter 1 – Module 1.

8 It’s truly amazing what you can do when you get creative.

9 Now, let us begin your journey in creative writing.

11 The objective of this lesson is for you to apply figures of speech in writing literary

12 descriptions and short paragraphs.

13 Now, open you LAS on page 3 then answer the pretest. All you have to do is read each

14 questions then write the letter of the correct answer on your paper. (PAUSE)

17 Now, to check your answers, refer to the answer key provided in the back of your LAS.

20 Rhetoricians have catalogued more than 250 different figures of speech.

21 But we are going to discuss the most common figures of speech which are simile,
metaphor,

22 onomatopoeia, personification, apostrophe and hyperbole.

23 To understand these better, follow me on page 4 as I read their descriptions.

27 Remember the most common figures speech are simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia,

28 personification, apostrophe and hyperbole.

29 Figures of Speech make the sentence deeper and leaves the reader with a sense of wonder.

30 It also brings life to the words used by the writer.

31 We use figures of speech in figurative language to add color and interest, and to awaken

32 the imagination of the reader.
