The Prospectus 2022 gives a brief overview of our initiatives and accomplishments of previous
sessions relating to academic activities, research output and innovative teaching pedagogy,
which ostensibly hints at the campus life buzzing with holistic learning and academic rigour.
Moreover, Prospectus is also a document which mirrors our roadmap. In the forthcoming session,
the University is offering 58 courses which includes Diploma, Certificate, Integrated,
Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Ph.D. programmes in various Schools of Study, to name a few
- Life Sciences, Basic and Applied sciences, Business Studies, Education, Knowledge
Management and Media Studies, Literature and Languages, National Security Studies,
Humanities and Social Sciences and Engineering.
The teaching rigour in the University is supplemented with research acumen and various research
projects with funding from different funding agencies viz. UGC, National Board of Higher
Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, GOI, SERB, UGC, ICSSR, DST, IUAC, M/O Textile,
GOI, MSME, GOI, M/O New and Renewable Energy, GOI, EDII, Ahmedabad etc. is a clear
indication of research output of university. Moreover, the University has succeeded in establishing
Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Science with entire funding from Indian Space Research
Organisation (ISRO)
State-of-the art infrastructure and facilities is one of the priorities of the universities so that
students' stay on the campus makes them responsible citizens and productive human resource.
Hence, Wifi facility on the campus and in hostels, an automated library, basic sports
infrastructure, yoga classes, clubs and interactive sessions with substantial focus on
placements the University has admirably succeeded in inculcating basic human values and
standards through diverse programmes and courses being currently offered.
Resonating with the declaration of our Hon'ble Prime Minister that “India is the world's most
youthful nation”, CUJ fraternity is working with utmost commitment and zeal to impart high-quality
vocational, inter-disciplinary, research-oriented and holistic education in emerging areas to youth
so as to unleash their potential towards nation building.

• Impart education which in its breadth and scope represents the three main
symbols in our logo: iridescent like the rising Sun, immortal as the Banyan
Tree and infinite like the Sky.

Motto and Symbolism
MOTTO of the University implies that knowledge refines, purifies and sharpens the
mind.
Symbolism: The Rising Sun, the Banyan Tree and the Infinite Sky are some of the most
significant constituents of nature, epitomizing its essence and motivating the mankind to
embrace a productive way of life, to acquire knowledge and attain peace and happiness.
These elements, each being an inspirational entity, have been arranged together into an
emblem to represent the Central University of Jammu.
RISING SUN- The rising Sun in the backdrop of the Banyan Tree is emblematic of
victory over darkness - the triumph of enlightenment over ignorance. The students shall
abide in light, acquire knowledge and grow in wisdom.
BANYANTREE- This part of the emblem proclaims that as the Banyan Tree filters
impurities to provide pure air and proliferates through its prop roots, the University
intends to resonate wisdom and knowledge, leading to organized thought and self-
disciplined individuals through contribution and participation of its alumni.
INFINITE SKY- The vast canopy of the Infinite Sky filled with rays of the Sun denote the
enormous expanse available for acquisition, growth and spread of knowledge; the
soaring spirit as also an exhaustive domain for nurturing and flow of ideas.
University is an abode of boundless learning, knowledge and wisdom that paves the way
to purposeful self-introspection, leading to individual growth and development.
To sum up, the Rising Sun along with the Banyan Tree and the Infinite Sky, truly reflect
the values, aspirations, goals and ethos of the University as it seeks to usher in an
enlightened society through vibrant, learned and empowered youth ready to adopt new
ideas and emerging trends in the modern world.

Campus Site
Introduction
The Central University of Jammu (CUJ) came into existence on August 08, 2011 and
was established under the Central Universities Act, 2009 (Act No.25 of 2009 read with
the Central Universities Act, 2009). The first academic session (2011-2012) commenced
with three post graduate courses and at present university is offering various
undergraduate/ Postgraduate/ PhD/ Diploma/Certification programmes through its
University Departments and Centres. The University is fully functional from its
permanent campus located at Village Rahya – Suchani (Bagla) in District Samba of J&K,
approximately 24 km away from the Jammu-Tawi Railway Station, 25 km from the
Jammu Airport, and around 7 km from the National Highway. The campus is well
connected through local and state transport. Central University of Jammu epitomizes an
inclusive and pluralistic institution of higher learning. The faculty and students are
collectively community is committed to discovering and sharing knowledge, as well as
addressing the challenges that our world is facing.

About the Campus
The university's administrative office is housed in a building at the campus site at Rahya-
Suchani (Bagla), Distt-Samba, (J&K). All the teaching Departments had started
functioning from the university's Main Campus from the Academic session 2017-18. The
university campus area extends to 610-acre which comprises a variety of noteworthy
geographical characteristics, including a scenic environment, various buildings, and
large roads. The campus is a sight to behold, with architectural harmony and natural
beauty. The main academic building houses various teaching, research, library,
laboratory and recreational facilities.
Milestones
Signing of MOU
MoU was signed between CUJ & ISRO to set up “Satish Dhawan Centre for Space
Science,” the first research and academic space science Centre sponsored by ISRO in
the north region in the presence of Hon'ble Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh. The joint
facility, which will be managed and maintained by Central University of Jammu, would be
used for ISRO extension operations pertinent to this region. The Research Centre in
space sciences provides value-driven, real-world solutions, which will enable the Central
University of Jammu to acquire, manage, and execute educationally relevant and
economically sound research programmes. The first National Conference, “Imagining
the future of Space Science and its strategic importance,” was organized during October
11-12, 2018, during the foundational laying Ceremony of the Centre by Dr. Jitendra
Singh, MOS, Department of Space, and then Chairman Dr. K Sivan.The Centre is also
starting B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics) from the
academic session 2022-23. The Central University of Jammu has a prescribed
curriculum on the subject(s) related to space science and technology. Department of

Physics & Astronomical Sciences and Environment Sciences also offers courses on
Astrophysics, atmospheric sciences, remote sensing, and GIS. In B. Tech E.C.E.
(avionics), the intake of the student will be 60. In collaboration with the university's allied
departments, the Center will also start offering Ph.D. in any area related to space science
and technology in the near future
The Central University of Jammu is one of the new and promising universities in the
Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which is devoted to the development of
advanced systems and technologies. Apart from imparting high-quality education, the

university provides an appropriate mechanism for inducing growth and development by
doing research in Jammu region. In view of the fact, the Central University of Jammu and
DRDO signed MoU in the presence of Hon'ble Defence Minister Shri. Rajnath Singh,
Chairman DRDO. R&D Secretary and DRDO Chairman Dr. G Satheesh Reddy laid the
foundation stone for the Kalam Centre for Science and Technology (KCST) on the
Central University of Jammu campus on 14 October 2021. The Centre envisages to act
as an extended field support Centre for DRDO, especially in the sensitive area of
Computational System Security and Sensor Technologies. With advanced Defence
applications in Computational System Security and Sensors, KCST aims to design and
develop a test-bed for the security of Industrial Control Systems for the Hydro Power
plant. The Center has untaken a project worth Rs 10 crore, "Design and Development of
Test bed and Vulnerability Analysis Framework for Cyber-Physical Systems," to
investigate the system-level impacts of different devices and network architectures of
the Industrial Control Systems and study and understand Industrial Control Systems
protocol of Hydroelectric Power Plant.

Thrust Areas of the University
Central University of Jammu is slated towards striving excellence by focusing on various
aspects that elevate the status and stature of education. A sound reflection with the
changing times is the utmost intention of a growing institution. All programs offered by the
University are in a state of continuous re-orientation and revamping in consonance with
the New Education Policy, 2020. To ensure this, the University has ensured the following:
The University's Programmes have been created with the goal of making students
worldwide competitive in their respective disciplines. The focus is on the 'Learner-
Centric Approach' as opposed to the conventional 'Teacher- Centric Approach' to
accommodate learner's needs and expectations to have wider choices in content, mode
and pace of learning.
The University is following Comprehensive Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as per
UGC norms largely on the lines of the best Universities of the world.
Students enrolled in all disciplines of study are assessed through Continuous Internal
Assessment based on quizzes, field projects, assignments, independent works, group
work, Mid-semester and End-semester examinations. Each Department offers minimum
three activities out of a list of activities to assess the performance of the students through
wide variety of activities under Continuous Internal Assessment to holistically evaluate
the students.

Evaluation Process for all Academic Programmes
Fellowships are the most important part of student support. Central University of Jammu
assist the students and researchers in availing these fellowships by providing guidance
to the students for clearing the National level exams for the fellowships. Researchers
who are pursuing PhD and those who have cleared their UGC (JRF)/ GATE are availing
the fellowships offered by University Grants Commission and Council for Scientific and
Industrial Research. Various other fellowships availed by the University students are
NGOBC, RGNF, Single Girl Child, Pahari Speaking, Post Matric Scholarship for SC/ST
students, PMS-Minority etc.
State-of-the-art Facilities
The University offers various facilities on campus including library, gymnasium, canteen,
hostel, sports facility, wi-fi connectivity and much more. The campus is both eco-friendly
lush green and inviting equipped with all necessary facilities. Students enrolled in the
University can benefit from these facilities without paying any membership charge.
The goal of this initiative is to provide Indian youth with skill training through sector-
specific vocational education programmes. The Next-Generation Bachelor of Vocational
[B.Voc.] programmes are offered under the University Grants Commission's (UGC)
"National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF)" to address critical knowledge and skill-
set gaps required to make candidates "Industry Ready" and also shape "Young-
entrepreneurs." The Bachelor of Vocational [B.Voc.] programmes incorporate specific
job roles and their equivalent National Occupational Standards (NOSs) along with

broad-based general education. The Central University of Jammu currently offers three
B. Voc. programmes namely B. Voc. (Tourism Management), B. Voc. (Retail
Management) and B. Voc. (Banking & Finance). The three-year degree programme
begins with a Diploma course leading to a Bachelor of Vocational Degree [B.Voc.] in the
3rd year. B.Voc. programme offer multiple entry and exit options. As a course
requirement, every B. Voc. student of Central University of Jammu is required to
complete internships through 'Earn While You Learn' model. This 'Earn While You Learn'
model provides students an opportunity to earn a modest stipend in skill knowledge
sectors.
Central University of Jammu has relatively low tuition fee that students from any
background can afford. A major advantage of attending Central University of Jammu is
that the fee of any programme is not excessively expensive for students to avail good
quality education

Academic Infrastructure of theUniversity
To meet the contemporary demands of many programmes, the University boasts state-
of-the-art infrastructural facilities such as smart classrooms, well-equipped Research
Laboratories, and Lecture Theatres. The University has a fully automated library that is
stocked with an adequate number of books (both physical and electronic), journals (both
physical and online), and reference materials relating to the many disciplines/programs
of study provided by the University.
Gymnasium
The University has established fully equipped gymnasium in the Main Campus.

Seminar Hall
Well-equipped Seminar Hall with a seating capacity of 170 has been created. The
Committee rooms are available for conducting official meetings, Seminars and/or other
academic activities.
Library
The library was established in the year 2011 and now catering 21 departments. It has a
collection of 27253 Books, 50 print journals, 5118 online e-journals, 277 e-Books, 16
Newspapers, 15 Magazines and remote access facility for accessing subscribed e-
resources through INFED (INFLIBNET).The Library has 10 Computers for Research
Scholars and Students to access the e-Resources, Internet and OPAC. The library has
access to anti-plagiarism software namely URKUND and iThenticate (Turnitin).

Laboratories
University provides state of the art laboratory facilities to its students, faculty and staff for
carrying out teaching, research and practical activities. The University has dedicated
labs for various disciplines of sciences.
Healthcare
Medical facilities with full time Doctors and nursing staff are available for the students,
staff and faculty of the University at its campus.
Canteen/Cafeteria
The University has a spacious, airy canteen where students and teaching faculty get an
opportunity to relish the neat and clean eatables prepared under hygienic conditions at
its campus.

Hostels/Halls of Residence
The University has rented private buildings (Boys and Girls) in Jammu City to
accommodate out station students. Depending on availability, the seats are allotted to
the students on merit and distance basis. One permanent Boy's hostel (100 bedded) is
ready to move at the Main Campus of the University. Construction of Girls Hostel is in
progress.
Language Lab
To enhance the communication competence of students, a software-based language
laboratory caters to the needs of students. Various sessions on listening, speaking, and
writing enable learners to develop proficiency of English language. The software is
flexible in nature which the concerned faculty appropriates keeping in view the
proficiency level of learners. Moreover, software related to vocabulary building upgrade
academic communication of students. Significant thrust on audio-visual display also
ascertains effective communication strategies.

Directorate of Physical Education
Directorate of Physical Education was established in the year 2018 with an objective of
developing and promoting sports culture among the youth for overall development of
their personality. The directorate aims to develop spirit of sportsmanship, achievement,
national pride and patriotism among youth. With a view to realize and fulfill this mammoth
task, the Directorate plans to develop the sports facilities and infrastructure in the
campus and conduct camps, marathons, university campus sports activities etc.
Students brought laurels to the institution by winning a number of state and national level
competitions. The Directorate of Physical Education has constituted a 'Fitness Club' that
regularly organize the activities which promotes the vision of Fit India Movement.
Students of Central University of Jammu participated in various sports events like All
India inter University sports championship, State sports championship etc.

University Business Incubation Centre
The University Business Incubation Centre (UBIC) was set up in the Year 2015 under the
aegis of Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Council sponsored by M/O
MSME, GOI to foster a culture of entrepreneurship amongst students as well as local
population.The aim and the focus of the Incubation Centre is to nurture innovative ideas
for commercialization and provide infrastructural support to incubates.UBIC nurtures
the innovative ideas of existing and prospective entrepreneurs‟in emerging innovative
ventures by providing necessary mentoring, promoting IP ecosystem and providing the
entrepreneurs a platform to commercialize their ideas besides helping to raise the seed
capital from different financial institutions at subsidized rates and IP protection. Also,
Campus Start up track has been initiated for promoting innovation. An amount of annual
cash prize of Rs 25000/- has been announced by UBIC for promoting best innovative
idea shaving commercial relevance. In order to create awareness about
entrepreneurship and sensitizing students about various schemes of GOI a Lecture
Series has been initiated by the UBIC and UIC wherein experts from diverse fields along
with successful entrepreneurs are invited to deliver lectures. Guided by the reforms
agenda in higher education and learning from the experiences of the best Universities of
the world, the University has introduced a number of innovations.
Industry-Academia Interface
The University has signed MoUs with industry, reputed Institutes /Universities within the
country and abroad which include MoUs with Chamber of Commerce and Industries,
Jammu, VLCC, NASSCOM Foundation, New Delhi, Ashray Incubator, Ahmedabad,
ASCI, Hyderabad and the University has also obtained membership of apex industry
bodies viz. ISTD, IAOTA, CII, NHRDN, AIMA, United Nation Academic Impact (UNAI)
etc.This linkage has resulted in creation of a strong industry-academia interface for the
benefit of the students and faculty. The University has initiated eminent lecture series
where in prominent personalities who have contributed in the irrespective fields are
invited periodically for interaction with students and faculty.
The University has also initiated a unique “Corporate Immersion & Leadership
Development Programme” with an objective to sensitize the professionals for under

standing of the industry at grassroots level that attempts to connect classroom learning
with real time environment.
About OIA: Central University of Jammu accords high priority in attracting the
international students from various key countries and is evident in the form of
university's policy initiative by establishing institutional structure The Office of
International Affairs (OIA) working with the mandate of regular functional cell in
university, under the direct supervision of the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor. In terms of
explicit policy initiatives the University has been proud member of United Nations
Academia Impact (UNAI) of United Nations, joining more than 500 Institutions'
association. The University intends to attract the students from various countries, from
SAARC region, Nordic and European countries, and accordingly the Office of
International Affairs is devising a priority strategy action plan for University out-reach
programmes engaging with various International agencies working in the areas of
Higher Education for Regular Students enrolment as priority, apart from developing on-
line courses, in various courses offered by University. The Office of International Affairs is
trying to work with 'Education attaches' of various Diplomatic mission and Central
agencies.
Plan of Action (PoA) for targeting International Students: The regular courses offered by
the Central University of Jammu, are in tune with the international standards offered by
any other Indian Universities, further as per the direction of the Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Government of India direction from time to time, various
Departments are devising on-line courses keeping in view the domain specialisations.
The Office of International Affairs is developing ambitious course structure in
collaboration with various International agencies working in India on the Study in India
Program (SIP) focusing special component on the Jammu & Kashmir State, to attract
students from Europe and North America for short-term courses. With the objective of
making the university unprecedented visibility at the international level, attempts are
being made to undertake joint research and teaching projects that allow credit transfers
and grant of joint degrees to students in areas of mutual benefit.
Inception
1. The Office of International Affairs (OIA) was set up in February 2016, in the Central
University of Jammu, to accord high priority for attracting the International
Collaborations and students from across the key countries, this resolve was taken
forward in the form of university's policy initiative by establishing Institutional

structure as Office of International Affairs (OIA) working with the mandate of
regular functional cell in university, under the direct supervision of the Hon'ble
Vice-Chancellor.
4. The (OIA) in terms of its explicit policy initiatives has registered the Central
University of Jammu as proud member of United Nations Academia Impact
(UNAI) of United Nations, joining more than 500 International Institutional
association making it more visible. The Office of International Affairs strategy is to
develop International academic engagements working for materializing
Collaborations, Agreement of Cooperation and MoU's with various Foreign
Universities approved by various Regulatory bodies like MHRD, UGC, ICSSR,
and AIU.
5. The (OIA) is moving forward of attracting foreign students from various countries,
focusing on SAARC region, Nordic and European countries in upcoming
Academic sessions and accordingly the Office of International Affairs is devising a
priority strategy and programme of action for University global out-reach and
engaging with various International agencies working in India.
6. The Office of International Affairs (OIA) has already initiated working with
'Education attaches' of various foreign diplomatic mission and Central agencies
with the encouragement from the university leadership.
8. OIA Strives for making the university's unprecedented visibility at the International
level by engaging with various International Universities for knowledge exchange.

Co-Curricular Activities
Co-curricular activities enhance student learning by stimulating creative thoughts,
improving social and organizational skills, developing interest and talents and providing
students with the opportunities to unwind and to do something that they really enjoy. In
order to cater the needs of the students' various co-curricular activities are organized by
various departments/cells at the University Campus.
Udaan
University organizes Annual Cultural Festival UDAAN where students showcase their
talents in various areas like Singing, Dancing, Painting, Rangoli, Photography etc.

NSS Activities
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit was created in the Central University of
Jammu in2015inordertoengagestudentsintheco-curricular activities such as community
development and awareness programmes. So far, the Unit has enrolled more than 120
volunteers from various Departments of the University. It has organized various
activities: Blood Donation Camp, Visit under PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal),
Participation in Youth Festival, Republic Day Celebrations, Digital India Workshop etc.
NCC Activities
NCC Directorate JK&L Introduced NCC in Central University Jammu in November 2020
by allotting hundred (100) Senior Division Boys unit in the University, as a part of newly
raised 4th J&K Battalion NCC Group Headquarters Jammu which spreads over Samba
and Kathua Districts of the border area. Since introduction of NCC unit in Central
University of Jammu various initiatives towards NCC has been taken over such as :
Celebration of NCC day , Celebration of Constitution day , NCC Unit of Central
University, Jammu participated in Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate the contribution
of freedom fighters and above all Central University of Jammu recognizing the

importance of NCC in shaping the youth of the country to become the front warrior to
respond the conditions of crises in the country incorporated NCC as a “General Elective
Credit Course” under the Choice Based Credit System, in line with NEP 2020 from the
upcoming academic session 2021-2022.

Student Support
Equal Opportunity Cell
Equality of opportunity is one of the most important principles of constitutional
democracy in India. Central University of Jammu ensures every person an equal
opportunity at all levels irrespective of any caste, religion, race, creed, gender, sexual
orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, age, minority,
economically weaker section or disability. The objective of the cell is to create conducive
atmosphere for healthy inter- personal relation among students from different sections

student grievance redressal mechanism provides students essential support to resolve
their issues either academic or non-academic in nature. A grievance redressal
committee headed by academic coordinator has been constituted to tide over the
difficulties if any raised by the students. A suggestion box has been kept for seeking
opinion of the students. Many changes have been done on account of the same viz.
Library timing changes, internet facility extended, bandwidth extended, wi-fi facility
provided in hostels, improvement in the food quality in canteen as well as in mess. There
is a cell named GSCASH (Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual
Harassment) under which university is having University Complaints Committee (UCC)
in order to address the issues and complaints filed by the student or employee of the
university. EqualOpportunity Cell also addresses the issues andcomplaints of the
university fraternity. The university ensures every person an equal opportunity at all
levels irrespective of any caste, religion, race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, gender
identity, gender expression, genetic information, marital status, age, minorities,
economically weaker section or disability.
Anti-Ragging Measures
The University is committed to prevent ragging and an anti-ragging Committee has been
constitutedin accordance with the relevant Supreme Court guidelines.
• Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary
courses do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or
torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of
such fresher or any other student.
• Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular
academic activity of any other student or a fresher.

• Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the
academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students. Any act off in
ancial extortion or forceful expenditure/burden put on a fresher or any other
student.
• Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: Sexual abuse, homosexual
assaults and stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily
harm or any other danger to health or person.
• Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, posts, public insults which would also
include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or
passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.
• Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other
student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power,
authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student
• Rustication from the Institution for period ranging from one to four Semesters.
• Cancellation of Admission.
• Expulsion from the Institution and consequent debarring from Admission to any
other Institution for a specified period.
• Filing of First Information Report (FIR) with the Police and Local Authorities, under
the appropriate Penal Provisions.

ADMISSIONS 2022-23
General
Admission (for the session 2022-23 to all the Programmes of studies shall be made on
the basis of merit through Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) to be
conducted on all India basis.
In some courses the University may Conduct its own Entrance Test subject to approval
of Competent Bodies of the University after conduct of CUCET.
The candidates shall be required to get their admissions completed by the dates as

Only those candidates whose results of the qualifying examination is clear in all respects
on the last date prescribed for admission in the University will be considered for
admission to a Programme of Study. This year due to COVID-19 Pandemic, the
relaxation in submission of qualifying degree will be as per UGC guidelines. Each
candidate admitted to a particular Programmes of study/discipline shall be required to
submit his/her Migration Certificate in original within the prescribed time frame failing
which his/her admission in the University shall stand cancelled. Degrees obtained
through distance education mode and off- shore campus/study center will be valid only if
they are issued in accordance with relevant regulations, guidelines and instructions
issued by the Distance Education Council, UGC, AICTE&AIU.
