The phone components may be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). Always use an ESD mat and ground strap
when working with internal components.

Battery Safety Guidelines


Handle Battery with care. Ensure Battery edges and surfaces are not dented or deformed. If the Battery Pack is dropped
to the floor, it may be internally damaged and must be scrapped.
Ensure all surfaces, fixtures, and phone components contacting the Battery are smooth and clean.
Ensure Battery and its insulation are not damaged (e.g. scratched, dented, punctured) prior to and throughout assembly.
Prior to assembly, ensure Battery edges and surfaces are not dented or deformed, and that fixtures and parts that will
contact the Battery are free of foreign material.
Ensure screws and screwdrivers do not contact the Battery.
Failure to adhere to Safety Critical Note(s) may increase risk of rupture, burning, or failure to function safely when used
by the customer.

SIM Tray Removal


NOTE
The SIM Tray can be recovered and
reused after removal.

1. Use the SIM Tray Removal pin to push into the


SIM Tray hole as shown.

2. Press the pin into the SIM Tray to make it pop-


out. Use your fingers to remove the SIM Tray.

IMEI Label Removal


NOTE
Remove the IMEI Label only if
necessary. After you remove it, you
cannot reuse it.

Use the Tweezer to remove the IMEI Label from


the SIM tray.

Water Detection Label Inspection


NOTE
If the Water Detection Label (WDL) is
activated, the phone’s warranty no longer
applies.

Inspect the Water Detection Label inside the SIM


Tray Slot for signs of activation. Use external light
if needed.

Battery Inlay Removal


Preheating for Battery Inlay Removal

NOTE
Battery Inlay can be recovered and
reused after removal.

NOTE
Battery Inlay Removal Methods A and B have the
same preheating steps, as shown below.

1. Place the Potter Lens Adhesive Heating Plate


on the Hot Plate.

// CAUTION //
Do not set the Hot Plate temperature higher than
80 °C (176 °F). Damage to the phone may occur.

2. Set the Hot Plate to 80 °C (176 °F).

NOTE
Preheating with an oven is also acceptable if the
oven is set to the same temperature.

3. Place the phone in the Heating Plate, with the


Battery Inlay side down.

4. Wait 10 minutes for the Battery Inlay Adhesive


to warm up.

5. Remove the phone from the Heating Plate or


the oven.

// CAUTION //
Wear protective gloves when handling heated
phones.

NOTE
Perform the Battery Inlay removal procedure
before the phone starts to cool off.

Battery Inlay Removal Method A


1. Use the 3 mm Allen Wrench to loosen the
screws holding the side rails on the Battery
Inlay Fixture. Do not remove the rails.

2. Use the 3 mm Allen Wrench to remove the 2


center screws.

3. Orient the Battery Inlay Removal Insert in


relation to the Battery Inlay Removal Fixture as
shown. Place the Insert in the Battery Inlay
Removal Fixture.

4. Use the 3 mm Allen Wrench on the 2 center


screws to tighten the Battery Inlay Removal
Insert into position.

5. Slide both side rails on the Battery Inlay Fixture


firmly against the Battery Inlay Insert. Use the
3 mm Allen Wrench to tighten the 4 outside
screws on the underside of the Battery Inlay
Fixture.

6. Follow preheating steps described on Page 18.

7. Slide the phone into the Battery Inlay Fixture


as shown. Center the phone in the Fixture.

8. Place the alignment pin into the Headset Jack


opening as shown.

9. Press down on the Battery Inlay Fixture handle


to bring the suction cups in contact with the
Battery Inlay. Make sure all suction cups are
attached to the Battery Inlay.

// CAUTION //
Use care when pressing down on the Battery
Inlay Fixture handle. Damage to the phone may
occur.

NOTE
Begin this step before the phone starts to cool
off.

10. As the Battery Inlay begins to release from the


phone, use the Thin Plastic Spudger to gently
pry the inlay as shown.

// CAUTION //
Do not insert the Thin Plastic Spudger more than
10 mm to prevent damaging internal
components.

11. As the Battery Inlay begins to release from the


phone, use the Thin Plastic Spudger to gently
pry the Inlay as shown.

// CAUTION //
Use care to prevent damage to the FPS Flex.

// CAUTION //
Use care not to bend the Battery Inlay. Damage
to the phone may occur.

12. When the adhesive has been sufficiently


loosened or has been cut, use the handle on
the Battery Inlay Removal Fixture to open the
phone.

13. Use the Thin Plastic Spudger to break the


suction on the suction cups attached to the
Battery Inlay.

14. Use the Thin Plastic Spudger to break the


suction on the suction cups attached to the
Battery Inlay. You may need to repeat this
process on some suction cups.

15. After all the suction cups have been released,


remove the alignment pin from the Headset
Jack as shown.

16. Carefully slide the phone out of the Battery


Inlay Removal Fixture.

Battery Inlay Removal Method B


1. Follow preheating steps described on page18.

2. Use a Suction Cup tool to hold the Battery


Inlay firmly and create a gap between the
Battery Inlay and the phone.

3. Use the Shim to disengage the Battery Inlay


from the all sides of the Rear Housing.

// CAUTION //
Do not insert the Shim more than 10 mm to
prevent damaging internal components.

4. Use the Shim to loosen or cut the adhesive


holding the Battery Inlay. If necessary, reheat
the phone as you work your way around the
edges of the phone.

// CAUTION //
Use care not to bend the Battery Inlay. Damage
to the phone may occur.

5. Use the Shim to disengage the Battery Inlay in


the direction shown.

6. Carefully lift the Battery Inlay from the Rear


Housing.

Battery Inlay Removal Completion

NOTE
Finger Print Sensor Deco cannot be
recovered and reused.

1. Use the flat end of the Black Stick to remove


the Finger Print Sensor Deco from the Battery
Inlay.

2. Remove the Battery Inlay from the Rear


Housing.

Screw Tampering Label Inspection


NOTE
If a Screw Tampering Label is damaged, the
phone’s warranty no longer applies.

Inspect the Screw Tampering Labels located on


the top-right corner of the Rear Housing as shown.
Verify they are correctly placed and examine them
for signs of tampering.

Finger Print Sensor Flex Removal


NOTE
The Finger Print Sensor Flex can be
recovered and reused after removal.

1. Use the Torque Driver to loosen the 2 screws


holding the rails on the Finger Print Sensor Flex
Shield as shown.

2. Use the Tweezer to remove the Finger Print


Sensor Flex Shield as shown.

3. Use flat end of the Black Stick to remove the


Finger Print Sensor Flex.

Rear Housing Removal


NOTE
The Rear Housing can be
recovered and reused after
removal.

1. Use the Torque Driver to loosen the screws


holding the Rear Housing as shown.

2. Use the Shim to lift up the Rear Housing. Lift


up along the edges of the phone.

// CAUTION //
Do not insert the Shim more than 1 mm to
prevent damaging internal components.

3. Use your fingers to carefully lift the Rear


Housing.

Rear-Facing Imager Deco and Imager Lens Removal


NOTE
Rear-Facing Imager Deco and
Imager Lens cannot be recovered
and reused.

1. Set the Hot Plate to 80 °C (176 °F).

// CAUTION //
Do not set the Hot Plate temperature higher
than 80 °C (176 °F). Damage to the phone
may occur.

NOTE
Preheating with an oven is also acceptable if
the oven is set to the same temperature.

2. Place the Rear Housing on the Heating Plate


as shown.

3. Wait 5 minutes for the adhesive to warm up.

4. Remove the phone from the Heating Plate or


the oven.

// CAUTION //
Wear protective gloves when handling heated
components.

NOTE
Perform the removal procedure before the
Rear Housing starts to cool off.

5. Use the pointed end of the Black Stick to


push the Rear-Facing Imager Lens from the
Rear-Facing Imager Deco.

6. Use the Shim to lift the Imager Lens from the


pocket on the Rear-Facing Imager Deco as
shown.

Battery Removal

1. Set the Hot Plate to 80 °C (176 °F).

Do not set the Hot Plate temperature higher than
80 °C (176 °F). Damage to the phone may

oven is set to the same temperature.

2. Place the phone in the Heating Plate, with the


Display side down.

3. Wait 10 minutes for the adhesive to warm up.

4. Remove the phone from the Heating Plate or


the oven.

2. Use the Plastic Tweezer to connect the Coax


Cable Connector to the Main PCB as shown.

3. Make sure the Coax Cable is firmly secured in


the pocket.

Key Flex on the Main PCB as shown.

to hold the Side-Key Flex on the Main PCB as
shown.

7. Secure the Display Flex BtB Connector and


Main PCB BtB Connector to the Main PCB.

1. Go to

2. Install and open the LMST software.

3. Login with user credentials in LMST.

4. Look for Fixture validation use cases and click


on it.

5. Press the Power up and Volume down keys at


the same time. Use the Volume up/down keys
to select “Factory Mode” to turn on the device
in Factory Mode.

6. Factory Mode appears on the screen.

7. Plug the Micro USB Data Cable into the


computer, and then into the phone.

8. The device will display a pop-up to enable the


USB debugging. If not, enable the USB
debugging from the device setting.

9. Click on the device (right side of LMST). Select


the carrier and model name if device is not
recognized by LMST.

guides.

15. Screw two “Steel Socket Head Screw M4 x 0.7


mm Thread, 8 mm Long” screws into the Insert
as shown (the screws function as alignment to
rail.)

16. Tow-in the Insert, align the screws to the holes


and secure it to the rail.

17. Ensure the fixture is well grounded and


relocate the back handle if left handed.

18. Click ‘OK’ on the LMST screen.

1. Use Cotton Swabs and ISP Alcohol to clean
the Battery Inlay bonding ledge. The Battery
Inlay bonding ledge is highlighted in the
photo.

Battery Inlay bonding surface cleaning is
critical to the phone’s water resistance. You
must thoroughly clean the surface with ISP
Alcohol and allow it to dry completely.

2. Wait for the ISP Alcohol to dry completely.

3. Repeat the steps for 1-2 more times.

The Battery Inlay will not adhere to the
Housing if the Cotton Swabs are reused. The
Cotton Swabs may be used for 2 applications
of the same chemical, but then must be
discarded.

4. Secure the Battery Inlay Adhesive on the


Fixture (3-00-T9-10000), aligning with the two
pins as shown.

5. Secure the Battery Inlay on the top part of the


Fixture (3-00-T9-10000) with the four clips as
shown.

6. Install the two shown parts of the Fixture (3-


00-T9-10000) onto the Press.

7. Press down the Fixture handle for 5 seconds


to secure the Adhesive on the Battery Inlay.

8. Take the Battery Inlay out of the Fixture.
