This Section should be readin conjunetion with BS 142 : Part 0 “Ganeral introduction and lst of Par ‘Glossary of protection relay toms’ and BS 142: Section 2.2 ‘Specification for the general requicements for protection 1. Scope ‘This Section of BS 142 isa lower level document specifying the requirements for single input energizing quantity measuring relays with non-specified time or independent specified time, as a particular sub-family of measuring relays ‘whose general requirements are specified in Section 2.2, NOTE, The ttes ofthe publications referred to in thie standerd ar listed on the inside back cover 2. Definitions For the purposes of this Section of this British Standard, the definitions given in BS 142 : Section 1.1 apply. 3. Characteristic values The requirements of clause 3 of BS 142: Section 2.2 : 1982 shall apply subject to the following modifications to 3.6.1. and 3.6.2.1. 3.6.1.1. The reference values for influencing quantities and factors, and the associated test tolerances shall be as given in table 17, except that the reference condition for magnitude of input energizing quantities (reference for the determination of variations) shall be that declared by the manufacturer. 3.6.2.1 Limits of the nominal ranges of influencing quantities and factors shall be as given in table 2, except that for independent specitied time relays the limits of the nominal range of the input energizing quantities shell be the limits of the effective range, as declared by the manufacturer. Additional requirements apply in respect of the following. (a) There shall be neither condensation or ice formation inside the relay. {(b) The manufacturer shall declare the conditions under which the calibration has been made and the effects due to the transient d.c. component in the a.c. if these are significant, i.e. of the same order of magnitude or greater ‘than the assigned error. In this case, the manufacturer shall declare the errors for the following three values of time constant (ms, 40 ms.and 100 ms. ‘The reference conditions, both for transient and steady state, shall be in accordance with 3.6.1 Where special conditions of application necessitate the use of values other than those given in table 2, the manufacturer shall declare the values used, 4, Limits of the operative ranges for auxiliary energizing quantities The limits of the operative ranges for auxillary energizing quantities shall be as specified in clause 4 of BS 142 Section 2.2 : 1982. 5. Thermal requirements ‘Thermal requirements shall be as specitied in clause 5 of BS 142 : Section 2.2 : 1982. 6. Accuracy The requirements of clause 6 of BS 142: Section 2.2 1982 shall apply subject to the following modifications to 6.1. 6.1. General. For measuring relays, considerations of accuracy apply to the characteristic quantity and to the specified time(s) if any. The accuracy applicable to the characteristic quantity and to the time(s) may be different. BS 142: Section 3.1: 1983 For relays with an assigned error applicable to operating time, the maximum permissible error of the specitied ‘operating time shall be expressed as either: (a) a percentage of the time setting value: or (0) a percentage of the time setting value, together with a fixed maximum time error (where this may exceed the percentage value], whichever is the greater, e.g, 8% or 20 ms: oF (6) a fixed maximum time error. ‘Any pre-conditioning of the relay (e.g. whether the steady self-heating error has been reached before starting ‘the test) shall be declared by the manufacturer. 7. Overshoot time Overshoot time shall be as specified in clause 7 of BS 142 : Section 2.2 : 1982 (see clause 17) 8. Rated burden and rated impedance The requirements for rated burden and rated impedance shall be as specified in clause 8 of BS 142 : Section 2.2 : 1982. 9. Mechanical classification Relays covered by this standard shal be classified in accordance with clause 9 of BS 142 : Section 2.2 : 1982 10. Construction ‘The constructional requirements shall be as specified in clause 10 of BS 142 : Section 2.2 : 1982. 11. Contact performance ‘The requirements of BS 142 : Section 1.2 apply. NOTE. Section 1.2 requirs reference to 8S 6992 Part 1. 12. Insulation requirements The requirements of BS 142 : Section 1.3 apply. NOTE. Section 13 requires reference to 8S 5992 : Part. 13. Marking and data Marking and data shall be as specified in clause 11 of BS 142 : Section 2.2; 1982 14. Thermal tests ‘Thermal tests shall be made in accordance with clause 1 of BS 142 : Section 2. : 1982. 15. Mechanical tests The requirements of clause 14 of BS 142: Section 2.2: 1982 shall apply subject to the following modifications to 14.1. 14.1.1 Test conditions. The relay shall be tested under the following conditions, which shall be fulfilled simultaneously: {a} mounted as for normal service: (b) at rated values of the auxiliary energizing quantities; (c} under reference conditions of all influencing quantities and factors other than the setting (see item (e!): (G) at rates (eycles per min) specified by the manufacturer; (e} for relays with adjustable settings at the relay's lowest setting The values of the characteristic quantity or input energizing quantity for mechanical durability tests shall be as specified in table A, The transition from initial to final value shall be sudden, ie, with a minimum of delay.
