Integrating Digital Collaborative Tools in a

Design-Based Project Plan

Name: Kristal Pearl S. Rosete

Date of submission: January 7, 2022

Outline
Part 1. Topic and innovative output details

A. Real-world problem you want the students to explore

Response: Dirty Water Filter Project – Design, Build and Test

B. Context (describe the circumstances when the problem is experienced; no more

than 100 words)
Response: Due to its incredible chemical properties, water is often considered
the "universal solvent." It can mix with organic (natural) or synthetic (human-
made) substances. Some of these products easily break down in water, while
others break down very slowly, or perhaps even never. Water naturally cleans
itself via filtration through the ground and evaporation via the water cycle.

Some communities disposed their waste and garbage directly into lakes, streams
and oceans. Now, most countries require that unclean (contaminated, polluted)
water be treated before it is permitted to be released into natural bodies of
water like lakes, rivers and oceans.

C. Problem statement (How might we question)

Response: In this project, students investigate different methods—aeration and
filtering—for removing pollutants from water. Working in teams, students will
design, build and test their own water filters—essentially conducting their own
"dirty water projects."

D. Prototype (sketch/paper)
Response:
1. What is the prototype of a dirty water filter?

E. Project alignment to STEM disciplines (how is the project related to STEM?)

Science (concept/s): Each layer of the homemade water filter has a purpose.
Gravel or small stones are used to filter out large sediments, like leaves or insects,
whereas sand is used to remove fine impurities. Finally, the activated charcoal
removes contaminants and impurities through chemical absorption.

Technology (application): Designing a prototype dirty water filter.

Engineering (what do you expect students would build): Make use of available
materials to create a prototype water filter.
Mathematics (concept/s): determine the desired thickness of each layers in the
water filter.

F. Design peg sample

process.html

Part 2. Project details

A. Duration (total number of hours/days/weeks)

Response: 1 month

B. Rationale (no more than 100 words)

Response: Water filtration is the process of removing or reducing the
concentration of particulate matter, including suspended particles, parasites,
bacteria, algae, viruses, and fungi, as well as other undesirable chemical and
biological contaminants from contaminated water to produce safe and clean
water for a specific purpose, such as drinking, medical, and pharmaceutical
applications.

C. Time allocation
Example:

Day/Week Activities/Tasks
1 week Design thinking orientation
2 weeks Project Creation
1 week Testing and Evaluation
Part 3. Digital tools integration details

A. Digital tools you plan to use

1. Google Docs
2. FB Messenger
3. Google Meet/Zoom/MS Teams
B. Collaborative discussion opportunity (you may illustrate if you wish)

Guide question: How will you allow your students to do asynchronous

collaborative discussion/brainstorming when distilling ideas using the
attractiveness map? Make sure that you give details about how you will use your
digital tool of choice.

Response: Make a group chat in Facebook messenger for them to collaborate

on some ideas of the project. Also they can used the Google Chat to be used
for their asynchronous collaborative discussion.

C. Collaborative annotation opportunity (you may illustrate if you wish)

Guide question: How will you allow your students to do asynchronous

collaborative annotation when improving their prototype? Make sure that you
give details about how you will use your digital tool of choice.

Response: Instruct the group leader to upload the prototype in google docs for
the students give feedbacks and suggestions on the developed prototype.
Google Docs provide an opportunity for the class to insert and type comments.
