For the third year in a row, the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area has held the line

on Per Capita apportionments. Staff and committee members work very hard to be good stewards of the monies remitted. In 2010, the Per Capita portion of the PTCA budget was $416,000, this was covered in part by $319,000 of the Presbytery Per Capita which was remitted by the congregations. To make up the difference, Mission pledge dollars and Mission Partnership dollars from the Synod, are used to cover part of the salaries for program staff. Our new strategic plan says; We fearlessly follow the Holy Spirit into a changing world. The Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area is doing great and important things in the kingdom of God, paying Per Capita is an integral part of reaching those accomplishments. The membership number for PTCA in 2011 is 25,259 which generates $481,437.00. Be a part of Gods work in PTCA by urging your congregation to pay its Per Capita in a timely fashion.

So, what is per capita?

The official definition: Per capita is an opportunity for all communicant members of the Presbyterian church through the governing bodies to participate equally, responsibly, and interdependently by sharing the cost of coordination and evaluation of mission; and of performing ecclesiastical, legislative, and judicial functions that identify a Reformed Church, while at the same time strengthening the sense of community among all Presbyterians (GA Minutes, Part I, 1995).

Who decides how much is needed?

The Council of each governing body decides how much money they will need for the coming year. The amount is then voted on by each governing bodys assembly.

What happens if a church doesnt contribute?

Most congregations in the PTCA contribute the full amount of per capita every year. However, some congregations are not able to do so because of financial hardship. If that is the case, it would be helpful for congregations in financial difficulties to contact the Presbytery office. If a church decides not to give per capita or is not able to do so, it places a greater burden on the other member churches of the Presbytery. The result is that Presbytery has to rely on funds normally used for mission, which means less money for mission in the long run.

What Does Per Capita Do?

We do not believe in being lone rangers in the PC(USA). We need each other as we work together to share the good news of Jesus Christ. As we benefit from the gifts, skills, vision, and ministry of each other in this place, so, too, do we benefit from an even wider array of gifts and ministry of our Presbyterian brothers and sisters across the church. Your per capita pays for the programs, training, and resources that help us work together and discern the mind of Christ for the PC(USA).
