In relation to our lesson, Rizal’s letter to the women of Malolos, List at least
two (2) contemporary women* you admire and give the reason why you admire
them.

The original version of "To the Women of Malolos" was written in the Tagalog
language. In fulfillment of Marcelo H. del Pilar's request, Rizal composed the
aforementioned work when he was staying in London.  In the famous letter "To the
Young Women of Malolos" written by Jose Rizal, some of the issues that are
discussed include the inequality that exists between men and women, the ignorance
of the Spaniards that led to their practice of slavery, the fraudulent religious beliefs
brought by the friars, the role of mothers in the family, the tyranny of some due to the
cowardice and negligence of others, the unreligious acts of the friars toward the
Filipinos, and the lack of education. At that time, the responsibility for education was
given only to members of the clergy, which led to an excessive amount of emphasis
being placed on a religious worldview in the classroom. Even though the kids were
instructed in elementary mathematics and how to read the alphabet, education was
not seen as being as essential as it is now, and there was a significant gender gap in
the curriculum that was presented to males compared to that which was presented to
girls. The rationale that women were destined to be homemakers and had no need
for formal education beyond basic curriculum was the reason that was largely
accepted during that time period.

In this letter, Rizal addresses all diverse types of women, including the
mother, the wives, and the unmarried, and he conveys all that he hopes those ladies
would remember to keep in mind. Dr. Jose Rizal was very moved by the tenacity of
the young ladies of Malolos, and he credited them as a major influence on his
thinking. His letter is his own method of recognizing them as courageous Filipinas
who are no longer misled by the fraudulent religious beliefs brought by the friars. He
did this by describing them as "no longer blinded by the false religious beliefs brought
by the friars." In his letter, he conveys his extreme happiness and contentment over
the outcome of the fight that they fought. Because the parish priest did not approve of
the idea, the request was denied, which was quite predictable. Even though they
were discouraged, the ladies continued to advocate for the school by going back and
forth between Malolos and Manila in an effort to persuade the governor-general to
grant their request. Finally, in February of 1889, the ladies were given permission to
create their own school on the terms that they pay for their own education and that
courses take place during the day. The pressure from the government resulted in the
school being closed after just three months of operation. To summarize everything,
Dr. Rizal's ultimate goal was to rid his people of their ignorance about freedom and to
awaken their eyes. Slavery in their day was caused by ignorance, and we must do all
in our power to ensure that this never happens again. He did not want the people of
that land to be irreligious, but he did want them to be aware of the dangers of being
used by friars while they were dressed in their robes and he wanted them to know
how to avoid being duped. Not only should the lessons be spoken, but they should
also be put into practice.

The Art and Heart of Storytelling: Kara Patria Constantino David-Cancio

Kara Patria Constantino David-Cancio is a Filipino journalist and television

anchor. She was born on September 12, 1973 in the Philippines. She is a host and
writer for GMA Network's i-Witness program in addition to her role as a news anchor
for GMA News TV's News to Go program. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in
Broadcast Communication degree with high honors from the University of the
Philippines in Diliman. Her alma mater is located in Diliman. After that, in the year
1995, she began working for GMA Network as a production assistant and researcher.
She was given a promotion to the position of writer and researcher for the show
"Emergency," and she also became the host of "Huling Hirit," a regular two-minute
section in the daily news that included items that were focused on adventure and
inspiration.
Kara was indeed a broadcast journalist, thus as part of her career, she was
often sent to rural areas of the Philippines, where she met individuals from
indigenous communities who did not have access to school as well as children who
worked in factories. Kara had the feeling that she wanted to do more than only report
the news and educate people, therefore in the year 2001, she established Project
Malasakit to fulfill this desire. The organization assists indigenous communities by
providing financial financial aid in the form of scholarships, erecting healthcare
facilities and maternity clinics, constructing schools and childcare centers, providing
renewable energy sources, and establishing daycare centers and classrooms. “When
you go to a community, you realize that the problems are all interconnected with
each other, follow your passion and never give up. We can only do it if we have
compassion for other people and if we open our hearts.” Kara said on one of her
interviews.
Just like everyone else, Kara has had ups and downs in her professional life.
“The year 2005 was the turning point of my life, kasi nung 2005 andaming nangyari
sa buhay ko. Tapos isa sa pinakamemorable na docus na ginawa ko nung 2005 ay
yung docu na 'Buto’t Balat', tungkol sa malnutrition in Bicol.” According to Kara, she
had wanted to help the three children that she featured in the said documentary,
Angela, Jeremy, and Julie Ann.
"I know that information these days is accessible with one click, but so many
hidden stories and issues need to be shed light on. There are plenty of institutions in
our society that need to be checked. Ultimately, the media is a check on society. It
provides checking balance," she said. "The media is what exposes the anomalies in
government and other institutions. There are so many injustices still happening in the
country. There are still so many children who can't study, so many communities that
don't get serviced, so many people who are abused by institutions and powerful
people," she added. When Kara was asked why young people should think about
pursuing careers in journalism, she said that there are still a lot of tales that haven't
been told.
The estate of the media is among the most influential in all of society. They
are the ones who are responsible for constructing or destroying the image of a public
figure, as well as for bringing that figure to the attention of the rest of the world. They
are accountable for quickly and correctly disseminating news to all parts of the globe,
as well as for molding the opinion of the general public. Journalism is about much
more than just reporting the facts; journalists conduct investigations into incidents
and make an effort to unearth hidden truths, if there are any. In this essay, we will
examine the effects that journalism has not just on individuals but also on society as
a whole.

The Last Man Standing is a Woman: Attorney Leni Robredo

As the 14th Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, Maria Leonor
Gerona Robredo, an alternative lawyer and public servant, has been elected to that
position. Following the passing of her husband, long-time Naga City Mayor and
Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, Leni, as she is popularly known, emerged into the
national consciousness after years of working with the poor and the marginalized,
teaching those who are less fortunate about their rights under the law. Leni has
worked with the poor and the marginalized to teach those less fortunate about their
rights under the law. She entered the political arena in 2013 and won the election for
the position of Representative of the Third District of Camarines Sur. She was asked
to continue her father's tradition of excellent administration, so she decided to run for
office.
She is not capable of doing miracles. However, she plans to use this
constraint as motivation to demonstrate her worth in the realm of public service. She
is not a magician at all. However, she plans to bring about change in the lives of
other people not via illusions or deceptions, but rather by the strength of her will and
the clarity of her vision. Leni Robredo ran for vice president of the Philippines against
male candidates who had served in the national government in the past. Her
opponents were men who had held positions in the national government. During one
particularly memorable discussion, she said, "I am a mother who will always look out
for her children." I promise to watch out for our nation at all times. To the six of us,
may the most qualified lady prevail. In 2016, she won the election for the position of
Vice President of the Philippines.
As part of this effort, we are working to put a stop to domestic violence and
provide women the tools they need to become financially independent. In one
interview, she claimed "Karamihan sa nasalubong namin na mga problema, kahit
inaabuso na, parang they would prefer to go back to the abusive environment dahil
ang pakiramdam niya, hindi niya kayang buhayin iyong sarili niya at saka mga anak."
This is a problem that Leni strives to solve by teaching business skills to
women so that they may go into business for themselves and become entrepreneurs.
According to Leni, "academic studies have shown that in order to close the gender
gap, at least four things should happen: first, make it safe and fair for women to do
trade-related businesses; second, bring more women into the workforce and achieve
gender parity in the workplace; third, make spaces for female-led enterprises; and
fourth, facilitate equal access to technology." Leni explains that "academic studies
have shown that in order to close the gender gap, at least four things should happen:
first, make
It would seem to make sense for Leni Robredo's central emphasis to be on
assisting in the process of bettering the lives of our people, given the fact that she
has has been an advocate throughout her entire life, that she has a proven track
record, that she has made personal contributions, and that she is passionate about
the causes that are important to her. Garcia notes that the womenfolk, whom she has
helped in her earlier work as the alternative legal defender, non-governmental
worker, local government activist, and lawmaker representing a district in the
province of Camarines Sur, are the primary target of this initiative. She has, of
course, extended her work to include a greater number of our islands, where she is
helped by some of the most devoted and knowledgeable employees I have seen in
government in a very long time.
