a) Athletes often land on sand after taking a high jump to avoid

getting hurt.

b) After alighting from a moving bus, one has to run for some
distance in the direction of bus in order to avoid falling.

2. a) State and prove the Law of conservation of momentum. [3]

b) A 5 kg rifle fires a 6g bullet with speed of 500 ms-1. Find the recoil
velocity of the rifle.

3. a) Given below is velocity – time graph. [5]

(i) For which interval of time the body has uniform motion?

(ii) For which interval of time, the body has retardation? Calculate
the retardation.

b) Given below is the motion of a two cars A and B starting from O at

t = 0 and reaching D at t = 4 s. Observe the figure carefully and
