RELEVANT COURSES
Computer Aided Design (CAD) January 2020
This course begins with basic instruction in computer aided drafting to produce and refine working
drawings while developing skills for reading and interpreting building plans, sections, elevations,
assemblies, and details.

Introduction to Interior Design January 2020

This course provides students with a broad introduction to residential interior design. Specific topics
include: the process and profession of design; the elements and principles of design; color theory;
floor plans, housing, and building systems; architectural detail; furniture selection and arrangement;
space planning; universal and sustainable design; lighting; interior finishes, window treatments, and
accessories.

Survey of Architecture and Construction September 2020

This course helps students choose a career within their program of study. During the semester,
Architecture and Construction Management faculty inform students of the many and varied career
paths possible within the profession.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) September 2020

This course involves the act of creating a virtual model of a building that can be used for making
design decisions, construction document creation and rendered presentations.

Computer Aided Design II (CAD II) September 2020

This course is a continuation of CAD I and emphasis is placed on architectural knowledge, practices,
and drafting procedures needed to draw wall sections, building assemblies, integrated building
systems, and detailing required for construction documents of a commercial building.

Construction Documents September 2020

This course provides in-depth information about the preparation and content of documents within a
project manual.

Introduction to Programming September 2020

This is an introductory course that teaches the basic concepts of computers and information
technology.

Presentation Graphics I January 2021

In this course, students learn techniques in sketching, perspective, and hand rendering to enhance
their creative design thinking.

Building Information Modeling II (BIM II) January 2021

This course is a continuation of BIM II. This course strives to increase student proficiency of BIM to
improve construction productivity. This course emphasizes virtual modeling that can be used for
making design decisions, document decisions, and interference checking.

Framing Systems January 2021

This course is a study of the fundamentals of construction, tools, materials, codes, procedures, and
industry practices used in the construction of building structures

Architectural Design April 2021

In this course, students explore basic architectural design theory, including architectural design
principles, elements, and ordering systems. Throughout the semester, students will be able to

demonstrate proficient skills in architectural design, drawing, model making, writing, and reflection
on their work and the work of others.

Presentation Graphics II April 2021

This is a course that allows students to produce highly visual and realistic images of their designs. In
this course, students move beyond 2D construction and are introduced to computer 3D
visualization.

Design and Construction Technologies April 2021

In this course, students will be introduced to cutting edge technology in the design and construction
industry.

Design Thinking: Customer Experience April 2021

This course bridges the gap between Marketing and User Experience Design in a slow-paced, deep
dive studio experience. Students learn how to leverage Design Thinking techniques to identify and
document a customer’s total experience with a product or service.

Statics and Strength of Materials September 2021

The course introduces force systems in static equilibrium and an elemental understanding of
strength of materials, or the relationship between applied loads and the internal forces and
deformations induced in the structural element.

Construction Estimating September 2021

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the principles of construction cost
estimates including: organizing and planning an estimate, developing material and labor databases,
preparing accurate quantity takeoffs, and developing an understanding of overhead and profit.

Construction BIM September 2021

This course will give students an experience in advance building information modeling and
coordination concepts using industry standard computer software. Concepts covered will include:

§ Modeling building structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components.

§ Creating data-rich building model families and elements that can be incorporated in the
building model to augment the construction estimating, scheduling, and coordination
process.

§ Extracting and exporting building model data using schedules and spreadsheets.

§ Coordination and clash detection of the building model.
