Assignment 2

1) As Field states “SPSS mainly uses two windows the data editor and viewer” (106).
Within the data editor, there are two tabs, data view, and data editor. The variable view is
used “before we input data into the data editor, we need to create the variables using the
variable view” (111). Field states that the variable name “has some restrictions on
characters, and you wouldn't want to use huge long names at the columns because they
become hard to read” (113). Labels are used as descriptions to identify the variable.

2) Save just simply saves the file without naming it while saving as allowing you to
name the file whatever. If you wanted to initiate save as you simply click on the file on
the upper left side and go down to either save or save as. But automatically before
shutting down SPSS if you didn't save it prompts you to do so. Save as saves the editor as
SAV instead of doc.
