THE MONGOLIAN FIELD TEAM AT THE OYU TOLGOI PROJECT Canowindra is currently hosting a team of 29 geophysicists/technicians from Mongolia who are here to run a large-scale geophysical survey for Gold and Copper Resources Pty Ltd (GCR). GCR is an Orange-based exploration company with tenement holdings around Orange and the Central West where mineral exploration for precious metals is being carried out. Grant Hendrickson, a Canadian Geophysicist, heads up the team and will be completing this large-scale IP survey in the district, an Australian first. The team is staying in Canowindra for a period of three months which will be a significant boost to the local economy with accommodation and meals supplied by businesses in the town. Local resident Leanne Coady has been retained as the team's Liaison Officer in Canowindra and will have a busy time ahead. PAVING PROJECT PROVING POPULAR Canowindra Public School and the P&C Association would like to thank the Canowindra community, past and present students, and families for their support and contributions to the Bottle Tree Path Project. A final tally of pavers sold is yet to be finalised, however community response has been as expected: absolutely fantastic! Alison Stephens from the P&C Association would like to see more pavers sold for existing students, "We would like to see more pavers bought for those students and families currently enrolled at the school. That would be great as they will benefit from the path each day and it will give a timely balance to the story of the path." All path paver orders will be receipted if not already done so, and every person who has placed an order will shortly receive correspondence from the School and P & C Association. All that needs to be done now is place the order, have the pavers made and plan for paving. A date for the official opening of the path is yet to be confirmed, invitations will follow once this is set. The dedication from the School and office staff has been tremendous. The office staff have received many emails, phone calls and personal deliveries along with stories for the path pavers. There have been many previous School Captains, students, teachers, counsellors, community members, friends and family who have dedicated pavers to students who have since passed away. It is a touching and lasting personal tribute to trali longer all of those who are AusA first Gourmet Travwith us no an rate cup eller said and contributed to the historyof coffeewhat of the school has become today. The order from furthest away is from a past student who now resides in London! It's great to see that the news has travelled to those out of the community. Principal of Canowindra Public School, Eric Toole, is impressed with the response, "As expected the Bottle Tree Path pavers have been a big hit, with hundreds sold. This path will become a part of the school history. "A number of those who have purchased pavers have found the time to give us a short outline of their school days, it has been fascinating. We have even had three pavers ordered all the way from London." Alison advises, "Orders have officially closed, however we will keep accepting forms this coming week. Please post them to the school or drop them to the office by Friday as school holidays commence next week."

To the editor...
We Pat Randall and Racheal Walker have resigned from Central West Team Penning as secretary/treasurer and committee member for reasons beyond our control. We would like to say a huge thank you to all who have shown us their support. ROTARY HONOURED BY DRIVER REVIVER Driver Reviver Canowindra commenced operations at Easter 1996 as a community committee consisting of SES, Fire Brigade, CWA, Apex and Lions. Over the years, three of these organisations left the site operation and were replaced variously by other groups. Over the last ten years six groups: CWA, Rotary, Red Cross, Masonic Lodge, Billican Productions and Lions have consistently operated the site. Unfortunately Billican Productions and Masonic Lodge had to withdraw by the end of 2010. Cowra Antique Vehicle Car PARISH OF ST EDWARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH Club (Canowindra members) have since joined the operation. CANOWINDRA It is regrettable that with the closing of Saturday 2 July the Rotary Club of Canowindra it also has 6pm Canowindra now withdrawn from operating its regular Sunday 3 July evening spot, 5pm to close. The June long 8.30am Eugowra 10am Cudal week-end holiday was the Club's last roster after 15 years of service. It is hoped that other organisations may see fit to join in, to keep the Driver Reviver site in Canowindra operational. The presence also to two Year 11 High School Students on that week-end, in the van, to see how it worked, augers well that young people might become involved.

COMPUTER SCAM CALLS Recently there has been a telephone based scam targeting Australian computer users that uses Microsoft's name fraudulently. This scam operates under several names, and the fraudsters try to gain trust by falsely claiming to be a Microsoft Australia partner, and misuse the Microsoft logo on many of their pages on their website. Recently US Microsoft released warnings after a survey conducted of users in UK, Ireland, U.S. and Canada found around 15% of the 7,000 computer users asked have been victims of an online scam. Because phone scammers rely on deceiving, the most effective protection lies in consumer education to prevent people from becoming victims in the first place. The following is Microsofts advice: Be suspicious of unsolicited calls related to a security problem, even if they claim to represent a respected company. Never provide personal information, such as credit card or bank details, to an unsolicited caller. Do not go to a website, type anything into a computer, install software or follow any other instruction from someone who calls out of the blue. Take the callers information down and pass it to the authorities. Use up-to-date versions of Windows and application software. Make sure security updates are installed regularly. Use a strong password and change it regularly. Should you receive a suspicious call, take down the caller's details and contact NSW Fair Trading on 13 32 20 or go to www.scamwatch.gov.au

Todd Wyburn at 5/8th and Tom Abbott and Oliver Wythes had a huge job of attacking and tackling to do for the day. In the forwards Dan Bowd and Pete Stacey lead the pack around well. Jordan Irvine also played well in his debut game for the Pythons, and the ever reliable Stu Gavin was involved all over the park. The Pythons could not hold out the big Grenfell side for long and they got a couple more tries in the second half to take the score to 50-0. Then Lachie Noble, in the middle of a ruck, picked the ball up and went straight through the Grenfell pack to score a try right on full time, Tom kicked the goal and Canowindra licked their wounds after a crushing defeat. Points for the day went to Lachie Noble 3, Tom Abbott 2, and Todd Wyburn & Huw Wills got 1 each. Granty got Players' Player. This weekend the Pythons play host to Blayney. hopefully the boys will get their full side back on the park in what should be a great game. It is also sponsors day. TIGERS HANG ON FOR DRAW The Tigers have held on for a draw in the top of the table clash between previously second place Canowindra Tigers and first place Peak Hill Roosters. The game was tipped as the match of the round and it didnt disappoint. In a first half blitz Canowindra racked up 22 early points and led 22-4. The Roosters kept plugging away and narrowed the gap before half time to 22-14. After the break the Tigers crossed again to lead 28-14, and the Roosters replied 28-20, from here it was a real stalemate as both sides attacked, made mistakes, gave away penalties then attacked again. Finally it was the 135 game veteran Moey Bermingham who found the line in the left hand corner. This try put the Tigers up by 12 with nine minutes on the clock, a similar position to the first round clash between the sides. Once again the Rooster never gave up and two tries to Trent Staggs and two sideline conversions locked the scores at 32-32. Such as the closeness of the competition the Tigers now slip to third place. Canowindra 32(Lachlan Watson 2, Willie Lafaloa 2, Peter Pita, Moe Bermingham tries. Goals Rob Burn 4) drew Peak Hill 32. League Tag: No league tag for the top of the table Tigresses. Woodbridge Cup Youth League: On Sunday Canowindra were at home to the undefeated Peak Hill Roosters. Canowindra started well with forwards Kain Earsman and Harry Myers taking the ball up well. Off the back of that Brodie Friend scooted across the line for Canowindras first try. Canowindra maintained their dominance with half back Dan Middleton breaking the line and setting up Phil Tarrant for Canowindras second try which Brendon Traves converted. Just before half time Brendon Zahra scored in the corner, converted by Brendon Traves, to make the half time score Canowindra 16 Peak Hill nil. In the second half Canowindra maintained dominance with Capt Brydon Hughes scoring which made the score 20-nil. Peak Hill were next to score with a quick second try to follow which made the score 20-10. Front rower Tim Holly got a well deserved try beside the goal
