Globalization is a term used to describe how trade and technology have made the world
into a more connected and interdependent place. Globalization also captures in its scope the
economic and social changes that have come about as a result. It may be pictured as the threads
of an immense spider web formed over millennia, with the number and reach of these threads
increasing over time. People, money, material goods, ideas, and even disease and devastation
have traveled these silken strands, and have done so in greater numbers and with greater speed
than ever in the present age.

Learning Activity 1:
Part I. How Globalized is Your Home?

Go to your room and do an inventory of everything you have in your possession. You will
find out that the most essential among the “things” in your room are footwear, clothes, computers
(if any), cell phones, television (if possible), and maybe a radio. You may also notice books,
newspapers, news magazines and not to mention schools supplies and equipment.

Organize your inventory into two types: first, “things” that are made in the Philippines
and second, those that are of “foreign brands.” List the countries of origin of your foreign-brand
items.

Do the same thing for your kitchen and living room. These should include appliances.

In class, compare your list with those of your classmates to determine which countries
make the most household and personal needs you and your families have. Make a similar list for
Philippine made stuff. In the process, discuss why certain products are made in the Philippines
while others are produced abroad.

Part II. Answer the following questions briefly and concisely based on your idea of
Globalization:

1. How have you experienced globalization? - I have experienced globalization by

discovering another famous brand by shopping at the mall. My family purchases
appliances depending on what brand is durable. However for me it really depends on the
design of the item even if it is not a famous brand but still purchasing the time.

2. Why is it crucial to emphasize that globalization is uneven? Justify your answer. - The
reason of this occurrence is that there is a existence of economic development every
months or year has the economic development however there is a advantages and
disadvantages it can also affect our decision and can break another thoughts towards to
things. It depends on the majority of people who like or dislike the result of economic
development. That is why it is crucial for me to emphasize globalization if it is uneven.
