Problem 1:

Calculate the cross sectional area of a circular column which is required to resist a load of
2000kN if 6Y20 longitudinal bars are provided in the column. Take fcu = 40 N/mm2, fy = 460
N/mm2

Problem 2:
Design a short, braced reinforced concrete column for an ultimate axial load of 3000kN.
Given: fcu = 40N/mm2, f y = 460 N/mm2
(Hint: The word design means you should also make provision for the links and their
spacing)

Problem 3:
Calculate the ultimate axial load of a 300mm square column section having 4Y25
longitudinal bars, if fcu = 40N/mm2, f y = 460 N/mm2
(Check if the reinforcement provided meets the minimum requirements in a cross section of
the axially loaded columns (Prob. 1 – 3) )
