and make a change in this flawed reality. The instruments used in
this song are drums, electric guitar, and keyboard. These

CALABARZON
- located on the southwestern of Luzon. Composed of five

Contemporary Art Forms in the Region

VISUAL ARTS
Higantes Festival (Angon, Rizal)

- began in the late 1800’s, giant puppets made with papier -

mache, it used to be a way to mock the hacienderos, who used to rule
Angono, when they only allowed the common people to not celebrate
more than once in a year(Larida, 2021). But now, the Higantes
represents the farmers and fishermen (Sioco, 2020).

DANCE

Maglalatik (Biñan, Laguna)

- an indigenous dance with all male dancers

that uses coconut shells cut in halves, one each on both
hands, and four or six more hung on vests or the bod to
perform by tapping those coconut shells from one to
another. It also consists of a trapping and boxing
method hidden in the dance according to some Filipino
Martial Arts circles (Larida, 2021).
LITERATURE

The Legend of Lake Ticob (Tiaong, Quezon Province)

- a story about a young woman who was given by
the Gods to her parents, with the condition not to step
out of their house. Unfortunately, one of her suitors
caused her to do the thing she was never supposed to
do. Eventually, they were punished, they became
crocodiles, and the place they used to live in, became a
lake, which is now known as Lake Ticob (Berthelsen,
2009).

The Contemporary Arts in this region gives importance in visualizing its history. The artworks
are unique in a way that all of it has a story behind. As for its principles and elements, I noticed that
when it comes to their visual arts, whether it a sculpture or something that is to be performed, they
always give importance to the principle of balance. It is noticeable because of the fact that most of it
are balanced either asymmetrically or symmetrically. While for the elements, they gave emphasis to
the lines, shapes, color, and textures of their works. Also, it is especially unique because they always
make use of the available materials in their respective hometowns, which very admirable.
