Assessment Instructions
You are advised to commence work on your assessment from week 1 and must submit the completed
assessment in-full by the due date, as published in your timetable.
Purpose and Guidelines
 The assessment tasks are designed to measure your understanding and underpinning skills and
knowledge of this unit of competency.
 You are required to use the space/ templates provided in this document.
 When answering the questions, please ensure you address each criterion and sub-point,
demonstrate your research of each of the questions and cover the topic in a logical and structured
manner.
 Do not start answering questions without understanding what is required from you.
 Read the questions carefully and critically analyse them, this will help you to identify what is
needed.
 Seek clarification from your trainer/ assessor, if you are unsure.
 Your answers must demonstrate an understanding and application of relevant concepts, critical
thinking, and good writing skills.
 Be concise to the point and avoid adding any irrelevant information.
 Be careful to use non-discriminatory language. The language used should not devalue, demean, or
exclude individuals or groups based on attributes such as gender, disability, culture, race, religion,
sexual preference or age. Gender-inclusive language should be used.
 You should submit your work as a soft copy format in Microsoft Word/ DOC format.
Active participation
 It is a condition of enrolment that you actively participate in your studies.
 Active participation is attending all classes and completing all tasks on time according to the
requirements specified in the assessment task and by your trainer/ assessor.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is taking and using someone else's thoughts, writings or inventions and representing them
as your own. Plagiarism is a serious act and may result in a student’s exclusion from a course. When
you have any doubts about including the work of other authors in your assessment, please consult your
trainer/assessor.
The following list outlines some of the activities for which a student can be accused of plagiarism:
 Presenting any work by another individual as one's own unintentionally
 Handing in assessments markedly similar to or copied from another student

Copyrights
 You must be careful when copying the work of others.
 The owner of the material may take legal action against you if the owner's copyright has been

 You are allowed to do a certain amount of copying for research or study purposes.
 Generally, 10% or one chapter of a book is acceptable. However, when you quote, paraphrase,
summarise or copy information from the sources you are using to write your answers/ research
your work, you must always acknowledge the source.
Competency Outcomes
 Each activity in this assessment tasks will be marked as either Competent or Not Yet Competent
(NYC).
 If your work is marked as NYC you will be provided with feedback from your assessor.

 You will be required to make changes to your submission according to the feedback and resubmit
during the term, ensuring your assessor will have at least 7 business days to re-mark the work.
 Do not leave assessment submissions for the last day. This will increase your chances of being
marked as NYC.
 Please note you will not be able to gain competency if you are submitting any incomplete
assessment.

 Each assessment allows you two submission chances.
 If you are unable to obtain competency in two chances, a resubmission fee of $200 will incur, which
would allow you another two submission chances.

The Unit
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish collaborative partnerships and
relationships with business and industry stakeholders. This unit covers communicating to influence
others, cultivating new and existing partnerships, establishing positive collaborative relationships,
leading the establishment of a partnership program and establishing reporting mechanisms.

The unit applies to people who use cognitive and creative skills to review, critically analyse and
synthesise knowledge, in order to generate ideas and provide solutions to complex problems. They use
communication skills to demonstrate their understanding of theoretical concepts and to transfer
knowledge and ideas to others.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN!


Review the provided strategic plan and organisational policies.

SCENARIO:
Assuming, you work as Project Manager for Melbourne City Council. A team of four support officers
assist you in your various projects.

Currently, the council is experiencing the following challenges:


 32% increase in domestic violence in suburb A (population 25,000) & suburb C (population
52,000)
 11% increase in child abuse in suburb D (population 38,000) & suburb E (population 41,000)
 ongoing drug related issues in suburb A, suburb B (population 19,500) and suburb E.

The council is aiming to reduce the domestic violence reports, child abuse cases, and drug related
issues by 20% within 24 months.

You have been asked to:


 coordinate the project
 establish collaborative partnerships/ relationships with various Not for Profit/ Community Service
Organisations, and government departments
 work together to achieve the target within 24 months.

Your scope of work may include (but not limited to):


 setting up a toll-free hotline where people seeking help could request for the required services
 raising awareness by distributing flyer/ brochures, organising events etc.
 raising awareness in educational institutions
 establishing connections with counselling and other relevant service providers to assist the
victims/ drug-affected people
etc.

Throughout this assessment, you should think creatively, outside the box. You should conduct some
research on the city councils' role in general, to coordinate/ run similar type of projects.

T2.1: Conduct Research.


Conduct internet research (including Melbourne City Council website) to identify:
a. at least five RELEVANT not-for-profit/ community service organisations, operating
within Melbourne Metro area
b. at least two organisations (or government departments) currently working with
Melbourne City Council on community welfare projects
c. at least three relevant legislations.

You must visit websites of your shortlisted organisations to confirm if their strategic
objectives align with yours i.e. domestic violence, child abuse and drug related issues.

To initiate the conversation with the shortlisted organisations, you should send an official
email to their CEOs.

In your email introduce the project, highlight the importance of the project, recognise their
efforts and seek their collaboration/ assistance.

Your email should be written according to the corporate email etiquette with formal start
and closure along with salutation, full name and title. No Grammar and/or spelling
mistakes.

For the assessment purposes, you can address the email to John Citizen, CEO, Youth
Projects, john.citizen@youthprojects.org.au.

T2.3: Establish Framework.


Assuming:
 you have sent emails to all of your shortlisted organisations
 they have replied and are keen to work with the council
 you have obtained council's approval for their collaboration
 you have obtained approval for funding and project commencement
 you have organised a meeting with them to kickstart the project.

You are now required to conduct a meeting.

For this meeting, class to divide in small groups, preferably four students per group. One
of you will act as the coordinator while the other three as authorised representatives of the
invited organisations.

During the meeting, mutually:


 discuss how all of you can work together to address the challenges/ issues
 allocate work areas
 allocate work responsibilities
 develop communication strategy for your new strategic alliance/ partnership
 develop a list of major activities
 assign each activity to the relevant partner/ alliance
 determine the timelines
 determine resources required (e.g. volunteers, brochures etc.)
 establish at least three key performance indicators
 discuss how the project activities will be monitored
 discuss how the two-way feedback systems will work
 develop stakeholder & staff engagement strategies

T2.4a: Collaborative Partnership Plan.


Based on your research and the discussions in the recent meeting, develop a plan for your
collaborative partnership. The document will serve as a guide throughout the project.

You should use the provided template.

In the plan:
 type objectives of your project in section 1.1
 list all key stakeholders (the organisations & departments you will be working with)
in section 1.2
 record the newly developed communication strategy in section 1.3
 record roles & work responsibilities of each key stakeholder/ designatory in section
1.4
 develop action plan in section 2.1
 record KPIs in section 2.2
 record monitoring strategies in section 3.1
 record feedback mechanism in section 3.2
 record stakeholder engagement strategies in section 3.3

T2.4b: Continue working on collaborative partnership plan, as given below:

 Develop a process that could assist in resolving conflict between partner
organisations. Record it in section 4.1.
 Develop a mechanism/ process that could clarify how collaborating organisations
will be reporting to you, what will be frequency/ format and media. Record the
mechanism in section 4.2.
 Identify at least five risks affecting the collaborative partnership. Record them in
section 5.1.

 you have also noticed significant set-back due to government's lengthy approval
and review processes
 you noticed disappointing results from one of the partners' drug rehabilitation
centres

As part of your communication strategy, you have been asked to present project status to
all key-stakeholders.

Develop a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation and deliver it in class. Your presentation


should focus on:
