Welcome to the Fadderfestival 2022 <3

#fadderuis22 @uisfadder

Here you can find the most important information about this year's fadderfestival! :) Our
main goal is for you to have a safe and inclusive start. Therefore, you will have your
own “fadders” (current students) who will take care of you during the festival. This year,
we will provide a festival with varied activities and we hope we can meet many interests
:) Our theme for the festival is “colorsplash” - to celebrate the diversity and welcoming
absolutely everyone. We look forward to having you with us!

1. As a New Student
Being a new student away from your home country can be overwhelming for many
people. It can be hard that suddenly everything changes; you may have to live alone /
with people you do not know very well, cook for yourself, manage your own finances,
work independently with subjects, get to know an entire university and get to know
many new people. Maybe you may find that you are a little different than you thought
before and you may learn new things about yourself. These are completely normal
emotions! Some people love the freedom from the first second and most people look
back on their study time as an unforgettable experience. To ensure that the start as a
student is as good as possible for you, we have created a festival with both social and
educational events. This year, there will be diverse activities to meet various interests,
and hopefully you will start your student life in Norway in the best way possible!

What is Fadder week?

The Fadder week at University of Stavanger is a student-driven initiative. The purpose
of the Fadderfestival is for new students to find their way both socially and
academically at the university. Throughout the week, emphasis is placed on connecting
with fellow students and socializing. Students will be introduced to both the University
of Stavanger and student life, as well as to Stavanger city center. The Fadder
committee this year, in collaboration with the student associations, will offer concerts
and all sorts of fun and games!

As a new student you are a so called “fadderbarn”/fadderkid. There will be fadders

(current students) assigned to you, and they will take care of you during the week. After
you sign up as a fadderkid, your fadders will contact you and let you know where/what
to do next. Hopefully, you will make new friends, have a lot of fun and will get to know
Norway!

Socially
It has been shown that there is a higher probability that you will complete your studies if
you have participated in the fadderfestival! It can be easier to start and carry out life as
a student with good people around you :) So, we have made a festival for you so that
you can get to know others you are going to study with and others with similar
interests. We have a program with many different activities (see more under 3.
Program).
Professional
We have also made some short educational events for you during the festival, which
can give you some concrete tools for managing as an international student in
Stavanger. These can be seen in the festival program under the category “student
hack”. For example you can learn some Norwegian phrases that can be usefull during
the festival and attend a job searching course for international students.

Instagram
To make the transition into the study period a little easier, we post some tips and tricks
on our Instagram account @uisfadder. Stay tuned! :)

We look forward to having you at the Fadderfestival 2022!

2. The fadder board for the Fadderfestival 2022

Below is this year's board. We have been working with the festival for over a year and
we are really looking forward to welcoming you!

Team Deltakeransvarlig (responsible for participants) ensures, among other things,

that your fadders meet the qualities and helps them along the way to create a good
experience for you.

Team Inkludering & Trygghet (safety and inclusion) ensures that you get a safe and
inclusive experience. If something is not in order, you can contact them directly! See
under “GjeBeskjed” and “TimeOutZone” in this document. In addition, they are
responsible for all activities that do not fall under the category “nightlife”.

Team events are mainly responsible for the festival area and for organizing the various
events within the “nightlife” category. They can be seen on the festival grounds in
yellow vests! :)

Do you have questions in advance that you can not get answered by your fadder?
Contact us on Instagram (@uisfadder) or Facebook (Fadder UiS). If something
happens along the way that you want to report to the fadderleaders or the board, find
your fadderleader here or see under “GjeBeskjed” and “TimeOutZone” in this
document.
3. Festival ticket as a T-shirt
Price and practical information
The price of the festival ticket is 450 NOK. This includes absolutely everything in our
program, except for the student organization’s theme parties on Wednesday. They get
the income from these parties, and that gives them the opportunity to arrange student
activities all year :) Your ticket is your very own festival T-shirts which will be your
entrance ticket. By wearing the T-shirt, you get into all the events that are in the
program. So you have to wear this the whole week 33, and then it is also easy to see
who around you that are new students and that are participants at the festival! :) The
fadders and the fadderleaders, the current students who take care of you during the
week, have their own colors. This way they are easy to recognize and you get a safer
festival experience :) You will get your T-shirt when you meet your fadder, and then we
will also arrange the payment.

New students' (fadderkids) T-shirts - make it into your own!

Sustainbility and environment are important factors during this year's festival, and all
new students will this year get a "second hand" T-shirts or T-shirts that otherwise would
have gotten thrown away. The theme for this festival is colorsplash, and as a fadderkid
you can make your T-shirt your own, by cutting, drawing or coloring it! Here are some
tips on how to tiedye. You get the T-shirts from your fadder the first day you meet at the
festival. Many fadders and fadderleaders have already planned what you are going to
do together when it comes to decorating your T-shirts :) NB: The only thing that’s
REALLY IMPORTANT is that all logos are kept visible! If not, we will lose funds that
make our festival program possible. If that happens the T-shirt will no longer be
considered as valid, and a new T-shirt will be purchased at the person’s own expense.

Fadders and fadderleaders - easy to recognize

Fadders and fadderleaders have only one color on their T-shirts to make them easier to
spot in the crowd. Together with the fadder board, they will make sure you have a safe
and including week! Their T-shirts are certified with the highest sustainability ranking.

Your very own festival hoodie?

Get yourself an everlasting memory that you can wear both during and after the festival
:) We do not earn anything from the sale and have gotten them down to cost price, so
that you get them as cheap as possible. They are certified with the highest
sustainability mark. Take a look here.

4. Program
Find events
The program for the Fadderfestival 2022 is available at
minsis.no/en/fadder22/program/en. Please note that changes may occur. You can use
the categories at the top to find more quickly the types of events you are interested in.
With the festival ticket, everything in the program can be participated in completely free
of charge, with the exception of the theme parties for the line associations / student
organizations on Wednesday. This is because the income goes directly to them, and
they with that income can offer activities for students all year round :)

Familiarize yourself with the program

We have an enormously broad program this yetbar with a lot happening at once :D It is
a good idea to get a little idea of the program beforehand, so you know a little about
what is happening when you meet your fadders for the first time. Then it will be easier
for them to plan the week for you :) See you at the breakfast picnic for everyone at
08.30 am Monday the 15th!

Registration
It will be stated in each event how registration for the event works. It varies between
- first come, first served at a physical attendance at the event
- digital registration in advance (link in each event)
- registration through physical collection of tapes on campus

The registration will always open at 13.00 the day before the events. This means that
for events on Tuesday, you must register on Monday. The information about this will be
added to all events in the program in August.

Your fadders can sign up for all or part of your group or you can sign up individually or
with other students you get to know. It should always be possible to come alone - it's a
great opportunity to get to know new people over a fun activity! :D

In the festival area there will always be room for everyone!

5. Festival area: “Fadderlandsby”

Fadder is building its very own festival area for everyone who participates in the Fadder
Festival 2022, a “fadderlandsby” (“fadder village”)! This will be different from all other
fadder weeks in the country. The Fadderlandsby has capacity for absolutely everyone
who participates in the festival, so here you will always have room! Here, there will be
various food trucks, serving of both non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages by the
student bar (Tappetårnet), and various stands from relevant organizations for you as a
student. So in the festival area you will get at taste of a lot of different things you can
experience as a student in Stavanger! In addition, there will be many different activities,
ranging from water slide and volleyball tournaments to music bingo and karaoke, plus
several different concerts from both smaller and world-renowned artists.

6. Map and transport

Map of the festival area
Here will be a separate map of our “fadderlandsby” (festival area) during the upcoming
week.

Map of Stavanger city center

Here will be a separate map of Stavanger city center that shows what we arrange at
the various bars/nightclubs.

Kolumbus
In order to get to our events and start to understand Stavanger’s public transportation
system, we are able to offer a free weekly ticket to all participants at the festival through
our collaboration with Kolumbus :D Download the app Kolumbus Billett and the
instructions on how to get your ticket will come here in August. Use the app Kolumbus
Reise to find clever travel routes.

7. TimeOutZone
Team Trygghet & Inkludering (safety and inclusion) will at this year's festival have
their own tent where you can come by for a chat, ask questions, take a break, or get to
know new people. In TimeOutZone someone from the fadderboard will always be
present. Team Trygghet & Inkludering also have a phone that you as a fadderkid can
call if you have lost your group, if something has happened in your group, or if other
things have happened that you need support for. We are here to make your
fadderfestival the best!

The phone number for the SafetyPhone is ⇒ [phone number will be added here in
August]

8. “GjeBeskjed” (Give Notice)

The fadderboard wants to be made aware of unwanted incidents, errors and omissions.
The fadderboard is dependent on knowing what is happening so the relation is followed
up on and safety is improved.

Examples of conditions that can be reported:

● Damage to property or a person.
● Lack of facilitation.
● Other concerns or observations.
● Things you think are good about the festival.
This can also be reported to your fadders or fadderleaders.

● If one/several fadder(s) are not perceived as safe/including.
● Violation of important terms and conditions from the fadder contract (see
chapter 10 in this document).

9. Tips & tricks

Activities to get to know one another
There are many wonderful games/activities that make it easier to get to know one
another! We have collected a number of activities here.

We have also created a separate version of 100 questions that can be a little safer
when you do not know each other too well [will be posted in August].
Safe partying
Alcohol and drugs
4 out of 5 students state they agree that it is more fun to party with alcohol than
without. At the same time, 3 out of 5 students state there is too much alcohol in the
student community. Will it really be more fun with one more drink?

The pleasure centers in the brain are the most stimulated with a blood alcohol level
between 0,5 and 1,0. For girls this corresponds to 2-3 glasses of wine or small beers
and for boys 3-4. If you are drinking pints you will have found your happiness alcohol
level as you begin to sip your third pint.

- Eat food with alcohol and do not drink on an empty stomach.

- Surf the intoxication of what you just drank before opening a new drink or
ordering more. Take a break from alcohol when you are having the most fun,
then the fun evening will last even longer.
- Remember to drink water! As a bonus you get out of the worst hangover.
- Do not chug your beer when your gang is leaving for the next bar. Leave it -
even if it stings in your wallet then and there, we can promise that the money
can disappear faster if you chug it.
- Take care of fellow students so that nobody does anything foolish towards them
or that they do something they will regret the next day.
- Dance a lot! It is a smart way to burn off the alcohol and have fun ;)
Respect others' choice to not drink alcohol. Peer pressure to drink alcohol is not
allowed.
Illegal drugs are (obviously) not allowed and can lead to one not being allowed to
attend the festival.

Sex and consent

Sex is a natural part of life, and should be nice and safe. You may want to take some
precautions before having sex:
- Make sure this is something you feel like doing. It is allowed to change your
mind at any time.
- Consent must be present before having sex. A person who is intoxicated,
asleep, unconscious or for other reasons can not express himself/herself, can
not consent to sex.
- For casual sex, wear suitable protection. Remember that only condoms protect
against sexually transmitted diseases during intercourse.
- If you get extra good chemistry with a fadder or fadder leader, that’s amazing,
but sexual activities with them should be waited until the festival is over. Then
they are no longer in a leadership position above you and you are not bound
together in the form of a fadder group that is superclose the whole week.

10. Contract for your fadders - important points

To ensure that the Fadderfestival is safe and inclusive for as many fadderkids as
possible, all fadders have signed a contract. These are the most important points for
you to know:
- Be present for the fadder group during the Fadderfestival 2022.
- Be inclusive and accommodating, and show respect towards others.
- Follow up fadderkids who fall out of the group / do not participate. Ensure that
everyone feels included.
- Be in a condition that makes it possible to act responsibly and make good
decisions for your fadderkids.
- There is a zero tolerance for drinking pressure, both towards fadderkids and
other fadders.
- There is a zero tolerance for illegal drugs.
- Informere Fadderstyret ved negative hendelser.
- Inform the Fadder Board in the event of negative incidents.

11. When something happens

Fadder and fadderleader
The fadders are your closest leaders, and they will be there for you if something
happens and be available to you during the festival. If there is something you do not
feel comfortable talking to your fadder about, you can contact your fadderleader.

Direct contact with the Fadder board

We in the Fadder boarn always wants to be alerted if something happens. Use
“GjeBeskjed” in chapter 7 or call the SafetyPhone at any time at [will be added here in
August] for help/support.

Down below we have added some information that can be smart to know about - but
you will always be able to get help from your fadder/fadderleader/the fadder board.

“Sikre siden”
Here is a page developed for students that you can use if something happens:
https://www.sikresiden.no/en/incidentsduringstartofstudies. Examples are first aid, fire
situations and violence and threats.

“Overgrepsmottaket”
40% of all reported rapes takes place in connection to parties. For us, it is crucial that
you are safe at our festival, and therefore we have taken many precautions. Most of the
time it goes just fine! Be a good friend and GjeBeskjed (give notice) / call if someone
loses control or steps over boundaries.

Should anyone be abused, we strongly recommend that you go to “Overgrepsmottaket”

as soon as possible. They are open 24 hours a day, provide free medical help and
advice, and can provide the necessary documentation. You do not need a referral and
can come even if you are unsure of what really happened. Phone number: 902 40 200.
Call the Fadder boards SafetyPhone if you want support: [the phone number will be
added here in August].
