#fadderuis22 @uisfadder
Here you can find the most important information about this year's fadderfestival! :) Our
main goal is for you to have a safe and inclusive start. Therefore, you will have your
own “fadders” (current students) who will take care of you during the festival. This year,
we will provide a festival with varied activities and we hope we can meet many interests
:) Our theme for the festival is “colorsplash” - to celebrate the diversity and welcoming
absolutely everyone. We look forward to having you with us!
1. As a New Student
Being a new student away from your home country can be overwhelming for many
people. It can be hard that suddenly everything changes; you may have to live alone /
with people you do not know very well, cook for yourself, manage your own finances,
work independently with subjects, get to know an entire university and get to know
many new people. Maybe you may find that you are a little different than you thought
before and you may learn new things about yourself. These are completely normal
emotions! Some people love the freedom from the first second and most people look
back on their study time as an unforgettable experience. To ensure that the start as a
student is as good as possible for you, we have created a festival with both social and
educational events. This year, there will be diverse activities to meet various interests,
and hopefully you will start your student life in Norway in the best way possible!
Socially
It has been shown that there is a higher probability that you will complete your studies if
you have participated in the fadderfestival! It can be easier to start and carry out life as
a student with good people around you :) So, we have made a festival for you so that
you can get to know others you are going to study with and others with similar
interests. We have a program with many different activities (see more under 3.
Program).
Professional
We have also made some short educational events for you during the festival, which
can give you some concrete tools for managing as an international student in
Stavanger. These can be seen in the festival program under the category “student
hack”. For example you can learn some Norwegian phrases that can be usefull during
the festival and attend a job searching course for international students.
Instagram
To make the transition into the study period a little easier, we post some tips and tricks
on our Instagram account @uisfadder. Stay tuned! :)
Team Inkludering & Trygghet (safety and inclusion) ensures that you get a safe and
inclusive experience. If something is not in order, you can contact them directly! See
under “GjeBeskjed” and “TimeOutZone” in this document. In addition, they are
responsible for all activities that do not fall under the category “nightlife”.
Team events are mainly responsible for the festival area and for organizing the various
events within the “nightlife” category. They can be seen on the festival grounds in
yellow vests! :)
Do you have questions in advance that you can not get answered by your fadder?
Contact us on Instagram (@uisfadder) or Facebook (Fadder UiS). If something
happens along the way that you want to report to the fadderleaders or the board, find
your fadderleader here or see under “GjeBeskjed” and “TimeOutZone” in this
document.
3. Festival ticket as a T-shirt
Price and practical information
The price of the festival ticket is 450 NOK. This includes absolutely everything in our
program, except for the student organization’s theme parties on Wednesday. They get
the income from these parties, and that gives them the opportunity to arrange student
activities all year :) Your ticket is your very own festival T-shirts which will be your
entrance ticket. By wearing the T-shirt, you get into all the events that are in the
program. So you have to wear this the whole week 33, and then it is also easy to see
who around you that are new students and that are participants at the festival! :) The
fadders and the fadderleaders, the current students who take care of you during the
week, have their own colors. This way they are easy to recognize and you get a safer
festival experience :) You will get your T-shirt when you meet your fadder, and then we
will also arrange the payment.
Sustainbility and environment are important factors during this year's festival, and all
new students will this year get a "second hand" T-shirts or T-shirts that otherwise would
have gotten thrown away. The theme for this festival is colorsplash, and as a fadderkid
you can make your T-shirt your own, by cutting, drawing or coloring it! Here are some
tips on how to tiedye. You get the T-shirts from your fadder the first day you meet at the
festival. Many fadders and fadderleaders have already planned what you are going to
do together when it comes to decorating your T-shirts :) NB: The only thing that’s
REALLY IMPORTANT is that all logos are kept visible! If not, we will lose funds that
make our festival program possible. If that happens the T-shirt will no longer be
considered as valid, and a new T-shirt will be purchased at the person’s own expense.
Fadders and fadderleaders have only one color on their T-shirts to make them easier to
spot in the crowd. Together with the fadder board, they will make sure you have a safe
and including week! Their T-shirts are certified with the highest sustainability ranking.
4. Program
Find events
The program for the Fadderfestival 2022 is available at
minsis.no/en/fadder22/program/en. Please note that changes may occur. You can use
the categories at the top to find more quickly the types of events you are interested in.
With the festival ticket, everything in the program can be participated in completely free
of charge, with the exception of the theme parties for the line associations / student
organizations on Wednesday. This is because the income goes directly to them, and
they with that income can offer activities for students all year round :)
Registration
It will be stated in each event how registration for the event works. It varies between
- first come, first served at a physical attendance at the event
- digital registration in advance (link in each event)
- registration through physical collection of tapes on campus
The registration will always open at 13.00 the day before the events. This means that
for events on Tuesday, you must register on Monday. The information about this will be
added to all events in the program in August.
Your fadders can sign up for all or part of your group or you can sign up individually or
with other students you get to know. It should always be possible to come alone - it's a
great opportunity to get to know new people over a fun activity! :D
Kolumbus
In order to get to our events and start to understand Stavanger’s public transportation
system, we are able to offer a free weekly ticket to all participants at the festival through
our collaboration with Kolumbus :D Download the app Kolumbus Billett and the
instructions on how to get your ticket will come here in August. Use the app Kolumbus
Reise to find clever travel routes.
7. TimeOutZone
Team Trygghet & Inkludering (safety and inclusion) will at this year's festival have
their own tent where you can come by for a chat, ask questions, take a break, or get to
know new people. In TimeOutZone someone from the fadderboard will always be
present. Team Trygghet & Inkludering also have a phone that you as a fadderkid can
call if you have lost your group, if something has happened in your group, or if other
things have happened that you need support for. We are here to make your
fadderfestival the best!
The phone number for the SafetyPhone is ⇒ [phone number will be added here in
August]
Green
Good feedback is always nice to receive. It is just as important to take care of and
further develop what currently works, as it is to correct mistakes.
Complete the green form here:

Yellow
Here you can give notice about conditions that must/should be improved, or
errors/deficiencies that must/should be rectified when organizing the fadderfestival.
For example:
- Errors and omissions in the festival area.
- Lack of universal design.
- Lack of information.
- Other areas for improvement.
Complete the yellow form here:

Red
Here you can give notice if someone or something in your faddergroup or in your
relation with other students creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for people or the
environment.
For example:
- Experiencing exclusion.
- Bullying/harassment/threatening situations/violence.
- Unwanted sexual attention.
- Peer pressure to drink alcohol in the faddergroup.
- If one/several fadder(s) are not perceived as safe/inclusive.
- Breach of the fadder/fadderleader contract (see chapter 10 in this document).
It is voluntary to provide your name and contact information. The fadderboard still
wishes to receive this information so that necessary measures/sanctions can be
implemented.
Complete the red form here:
https://forms.gle/e21CrmKnzoCjz2pV6
We have also created a separate version of 100 questions that can be a little safer
when you do not know each other too well [will be posted in August].
Safe partying
Alcohol and drugs
4 out of 5 students state they agree that it is more fun to party with alcohol than
without. At the same time, 3 out of 5 students state there is too much alcohol in the
student community. Will it really be more fun with one more drink?
The pleasure centers in the brain are the most stimulated with a blood alcohol level
between 0,5 and 1,0. For girls this corresponds to 2-3 glasses of wine or small beers
and for boys 3-4. If you are drinking pints you will have found your happiness alcohol
level as you begin to sip your third pint.
Down below we have added some information that can be smart to know about - but
you will always be able to get help from your fadder/fadderleader/the fadder board.
“Sikre siden”
Here is a page developed for students that you can use if something happens:
https://www.sikresiden.no/en/incidentsduringstartofstudies. Examples are first aid, fire
situations and violence and threats.
“Overgrepsmottaket”
40% of all reported rapes takes place in connection to parties. For us, it is crucial that
you are safe at our festival, and therefore we have taken many precautions. Most of the
time it goes just fine! Be a good friend and GjeBeskjed (give notice) / call if someone
loses control or steps over boundaries.
