Hero Dog Shana (Summary)

Eve and Norman Fertig, an elderly couple, were caring for animals on their sanctuary gr
ounds when a freak snowstorm caught them 200 feet from their house and in subfreezin
g conditions. 
They were fortunate to have Shana on hand to save the day! 
She was determined to get the pair back to warmth and safety, so she dragged them thr
ough 200 feet of snow. 
Even after the arduous crawl, she remained to keep the couple warm and secure until t
he firefighter rescue team came.
Of course, she earned a lot of applause for her brave actions and went on to get the Hero's Awa
rd from Citizens for Humane Animal Treatment, which is often given to people.

Hero Dog Maya (Summary)

He bravely protected her parent from a man assailant in her home. We heard of superh
eroes and police officers saving people all the time.

After just returning from her birthday celebration, Angela was abruptly attacked by a my
sterious person from behind who eventually reached out to strangle her after she yelled 
at him to try to scare or dissuade him. 
Fortunately for her, Maya saw her threat and rushed to her aid. 
The pit bull, who is typically calm and cool, began bravely nibbling on his arm to try and 
scare the offender. 
He first tried to strangle Angela with one hand and fend off Maya with the other. 
The assailant, however, found Maya to be too much and ultimately backed off.
A few months later, Anthony Easley, the assailant, was apprehended after being identifi
ed through examination of a sample of Maya's own blood.

After this incident became widely known, Maya gained a lot of attention and was later d
esignated the 2008 hero dog.
Hero Dog Brutis (Summary)
A small youngster was bravely saved by Brutis, a 7-year-old golden retriever, from a poi
sonous coral snake that was crawling dangerously close to him. 
Before the snake could reach the youngster, he immediately grabbed it and fled. 
Consequently, the snake bit Brutis, nearly killing him, but he eventually recovered compl
etely. 
The boy may have died if the venomous coral snake bit him because it is one of North A
merica's most lethal snakes. 
Fortunately, Brutis did not pause any longer and took a chance on himself.

He was quickly flown to Los Angeles to get the National Hero Dog award once his brave
ry was highlighted.
The committee that gave him this prize said, "When we offer an award like this, we're looking for 
something exceptional, something that would make people wonder why a dog would do what he 
did."

Hero Dog Ginny (Summary)

Have you ever heard of a dog with a huge soft spot for cats? 
That description surely applies to Ginny the Schnauzer! 
Ginny is well-known for being the canine cat-saver. 
She didn't just save one cat, either; hundreds were saved!

She had a difficult start to life and was saved from the brink of death before being adopt
ed by a melancholy guy named Philip Gonzalez. 
He soon understood how unique his dog really was. 
Ginny was, it turned out, on a very important errand. 
She had rescued animals from numerous perilous circumstances throughout the years. 
Famous misadventures that made news include: plunging herself through a pipe to save 
five kittens and rescuing a cat through shattered glass, this caused her to suffer paw inj
uries. 
She had rescued almost 900 cats throughout the course of her life from alleyways, shelt
ers, buildings, garbage, you name it. 
Her ultimate purpose in life has always been to help those in need by going out into the 
world.
