걱정 표현하기
⑴ 걱정을 나타내는 표현
걱정이 나 두려움을 나타낼 때는 ‘나는 ~이 걱정된다’라는 뜻의 「I’m worried about ~」으로 말할 수 있으며, about 다
음에는 명사 또는 동명사의 형태가 와야 한다. 같은 의미를 나타내는 표현으로는 「I’m afraid[scared] of ~」 또는 「I’m
concerned[anxious] about ~」 등이 있다.

⑴ 방법을 묻는 표현
특정한 일을 하는 방법을 묻는 표현은 「Can you tell me how to + 동사원형 ~?」, 「Do you know how to + 동사원형 ~?」,
「How can I + 동사원형 ~?」 등이 있다. 이 경우에 「how to + 동사원형」은 ‘어떻게 ~ 하는지, ~ 하는 방법’을 뜻한다.

⑵ 방법 설명하기
방법에 대해 말하거나 능력을 나타낼 때는 「I know how to + 동사원형」 또는 「I’m good at ~」 등의 표현을 이용할 수 있다.
「how to + 동사원형」은 「how + 주어 + should + 동사원형」으로 바꿔 쓸 수 있다.

1 수동태
⑴ 주어가
동작이나 행위를 당하거나 받는 형식을 수동태라 하며, ‘~에 의해 …되다[당하다]’의 뜻을 가진다. 행위자가 중
요하지 않거나 행위자보다 행위의 대상을 더 중요하게 나타내고 싶을 때 수동태를 사용한다. 「주어 + be동사 + 과거
분사 + by 행위자」의 형태로 쓰며, by 뒤에 행위자를 쓰는 것이 원칙이지만 행위자가 불분명하거나 불특정 다수 일반
인일 때는 생략이 가능하다.
⑵ 능동태의 수동태 전환
능동태 주어 + 동사 + 목적어
She bought the car.
→ America was discovered by Columbus in 1492. (수동태) 미 대륙은 1492년에 콜럼버스에 의해서 발견되었다.
주어 be동사 + 과거분사 by + 행위자
⑶ 조동사 can이나 will, may 등이 쓰인 문장에서 수동태는 ‘can[will, may] be + 과거분사’의 형태가 된다.
I will send a letter to my parents.

→ A letter will be sent to my parents (by me). 편지 한 통이 나의 부모님께 보내질 것이다.
• The plants grow much faster than plants in soil. 그 식물들이 흙에서 자라는 식물보다 훨씬 더 빠르게 자란다.
⑴ 비교급은
두 개의 대상을 비교하여 어느 한 쪽이 다른 쪽보다 ‘더 …한[하게]’이라고 정도를 나타낼 때 쓴다. 비교급은
「형용사[부사]의 비교급 + than」의 형태로 쓰며, 이때 than은 ‘~보다’라는 뜻이다.
⑵ 비교급의 규칙 변화
비교급은 형용사나 부사에 ‘-er’을 붙인 형태가 가장 일반적이고, 그 외에는 다음의 규칙에 따라 변한다.
1음절이나 일부 2음절의 경우 + – er tall → taller / young → younger
–e로 끝나는 경우 + –r nice → nicer / late → later
‘자음 + y’로 끝나는 경우 y → i + – er heavy → heavier / easy → easier
‘단모음 + 단자음’으로 끝나는 경우 자음을 한 번 더 + – er big → bigger / hot → hotter
① 2음절 중 –ful, –ive, –ing, – able, – ous 등으로 끝나는 경우

② 3음절 이상의 경우 more + 형용사[부사]

⑶ 비교급의 불규칙 변화
good(좋은) / well(잘, 건강한) better many / much(많은) more
little(적은) less bad(나쁜) / ill(아픈) worse
⑷ much,
even, far, still, a lot 등의 부사를 비교급 앞에 써서 비교급을 강조할 수 있으며, ‘훨씬 더 ~한[하게]’이라는 뜻을
나타낸다.
