Chapter 1 Introduction Accura 2300S/2350-1P3FSC User Guide

Chapter 1 Introduction
Overview
Energy Management Paradigm Shift from Main Load to Branch Load
In the energy low-cost era, total energy management centered on switchgear panels such as main feeder
(from feeder to ABS) for stable power supply played an important role. However, there is an increasing
demand to manage the branch load electrical energy in manufacturing plants, IDC centers, and the
distribution boards of buildings when the energy costs rise sharply and the CO2 emission reduction policy is
implemented in 2015.

Limit of Applying the Switchgear Panel Digital Power Meter to Distribution Panel
To apply the digital power meter which is long used in the existing switchgear panel to distribution panel has
had the limit caused by narrow space, hazardous wiring of voltage and current, and high installation cost.
This fundamentally makes it difficult for energy management supervisor to access to the energy information of
branch loads in distribution panel.

Distribution Panel Digital Power Meter Specialized for Branch Load Management
Distribution panel digital power meter comprises both Accura 2300S[digital power meter] which is mounted
on front of distribution panel, and Accura 2350[power measuring module] which is mounted in branch loads
inside the panel. Accura 2300S collects power data from several Accura 2350s on RS-485 communication
and displays measurements of only one Accura 2350 selected on its LCD screen. This provides energy
management supervisor with the power quality information of branch loads which was impossible to identify.

Accura 2350-1P3FSC Single-phase Three Feeder Power Measuring Module, Suitable for Data Center
Distribution Panel Having Multiple Single-phase Feeders
Data center distribution panel has multiple single-phase feeders of the same current capacity. Accura 2350-
1P3FSC single-phase three feeder power measuring module measures three single-phase feeders of the same
current capacity at the same time. Installation time and cost can be drastically reduced comparing to
installment of Accura 2350-1P[1PSC] single-phase power measuring module.

Accura 2350-1P3FSC-DIZCT Single-phase Three Feeder Power Measuring Module[Option Module]

Supporting the Monitoring of Leakage Current for Each Single-phase Feeder, and MCCB Trip-status
Accura 2350-1P3FSC-DIZCT single-phase three feeder power measuring module[Option module] provides
the additional function to monitor both leakage current and MCCB trip-status of each single-phase feeder by
expanding the function of Accura 2350-1P3FSC single-phase three feeder power measuring module[Basic
module]. This makes it possible to do not only the energy management but also the safety management for
consistency of power supply.

Accura 2300S/2350-1P3FSC User Guide Chapter 1 Introduction

Voltage ±0.2% RD Error/Current ±0.5% RD Error/IEC62053-22 Class 0.5S

Recently enterprise energy management system is essential for effective energy use and preventive
management to prepare CO2 emission management in data center, plant and building. The key factor to
determine reliability of the energy management is measuring accuracy. Accura 2300S/2350 supports
1
precision measurement of ±0.2% reading error of voltage and ±0.5% reading error of current, and
conforms to IEC62053-22 class 0.5S for power and energy. This makes it possible to precisely analyze and
diagnose various problems with energy management and power facilities.

1. Single-phase three feeder power measuring module can increase the error of up to ± 1% reading value depending on
the penetration position of power cable.

Dip[Sag]/Swell[IEC61000-4-30], Power Quality

Accura 2300S provides a variety of power quality information, including dip[sag], swell and harmonic
information[up to 31th], crest factor, K-factor, and unbalance ratio. This enables the energy manager to easily
identify power quality changes in various power distribution systems in the power plant, thus realistic power
quality management is possible. Power quality information conforms to IEC61000-4-30.

Maximum/Minimum/Average during Aggregation Interval

Accura 2300S calculates average at every 0.5 second interval from measurements at cycle time, providing
maximum/minimum/average at 1 second, 5 second, 1 minute, 5 minute, 1 hour and 6 hour intervals from
average at every 0.5 second interval. The measuring interval which is more than 0.5 second interval is called
aggregation interval.
Accura 2300S provides both of maximum/minimum/average at each aggregation interval and time
information[time stamp] at the time of generation, as well as average at 0.5 second interval about various
measuring parameters such as voltage, current, power, and etc on communication. This includes information
of the measuring parameters fluctuating instantaneously, which makes it possible to precisely analyze the
trend of quality of voltage, current, and power.

CE/UL Safety and Reliablity

The internal and external structures of Accura 2300S [instrument design, circuit design, and electrical fire]
meet the safety and reliability standards of CE[EN61326-1, EN61326-2-1, EN61010-1] and UL[UL61010-1].

All-in-one Installation with MCCB/ELB Having the Same Current Rating

Accura 2350-1P3FSC single-phase three feeder power measuring module is installed all-in-one with the
existing MCCB because the distance between through-holes of the module on two kinds of current rating, 60A
and 125A is compatible with that between terminals of MCCB/ELB.

Step 6: Accura 2300S External Communication

Ethernet Communication
Accura 2300S provides Ethernet communication for high speed transmission of data collected from many
Accura 2350s. Inside of Accura 2300S, Ethernet switch built in so using 2 Ethernet ports Ethernet connection is
available among Accura 2300Ss without another external switch. Up to 20 Accura 2300Ss can be connected
and Star, Daisy Chain and Ring connection modes are available. To transmit the measured data, Accura
2300S supports the standard protocol Modbus TCP.

Supporting RSTP[Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol], ring connection mode is available. Ring connection can
minimize the data loss when the one side of wire is cut by restarting communication through the opposite way
within quick time.

Note

For fast recovery with ring connection, use ring connection of Ethernet switch, RSTP[Rapid Spanning Tree
Protocol] supported and adjusting the order of priority of configured route for corresponding switch.

Event Log Mode

Start Event and End Event
Accura 2300S generates a start event when the event condition is satisfied when the power quality event such
as Dip[Sag], Swell, Fuse Fail is set, and generates the end event when the event is restored to the normal state.
All events except digital input [DI] event are always composed of start event and end event.

Start Event Alarm Generation

When the start event and the DI event occur, the event log is processed and a start event alarm is generated.
When start event alarm occurs, LCD backlight and the EVENT LED on the lower left blink. When the dip/swell
start event occurs, the Dip/Swell segment on the top bar blinks.
When the end event occurs, only the event log is processed and no alarm is generated.
The maximum 100 event logs are displayed.

Note

- Event LCD backlight illumination time can be set to clear the LCD backlight blinking, which indicates the
start event generation, to be cleared when the event log is confirmed, or to be maintained until 9999
minutes.

- It is possible to eliminate the EVENT LED blinking that notifies the generation of the start event by the
setting of the event LED illumination time when the event log is confirmed, or to maintain it until 9999
minutes.

Chapter 5 Measurement Description

General Measurement
The general measurement parameters are shown in the following table. Some of the parameters are provided
for communications only.
Accura 2300S front LCD display provides measurement value of 2 seconds aggregation interval based on the
basic measurement value of 0.5-second frame. It is also provided by communication. Additionally, the
measured values provided for communication are values for 0.5-second, 1-second, 5-second, 1-minute, 5-
minute, 1-hour, and 6-hour aggregation intervals, and the default aggregation interval is 1-second.
Since the maximum and minimum values after the reset provided by Accura 2300S are stored in the
nonvolatile memory, they are preserved even when Accura 2300S is turned off and then turned on. The peak
demand is initialized to zero by a maximum/minimum reset, not a demand reset.

Since there is no actual neutral point in the 3-phase 3-wire voltage connection, only the line-to-line voltage
and the total power can be known, and the actual voltage and the electric power for each phase cannot be
known. However, it is possible to obtain the virtual center point at which the residual voltage of the 3-phase
voltage becomes zero, and regard it as the neutral point, thereby obtaining the voltage per phase and the
power per phase.

Leakage Current Measurement

Leakage current measurement is supported by installing an external ZCT[voltage-type] and connecting the
ZCT output voltage to the ZCT input terminal of Accura 2350 module.
Depending on the setting, the leakage current measurement can be done in two ways: "Half-cycle RMS" and
"1-cycle Fundamental RMS".

Half-cycle RMS Method[Default]

Calculates the half-cycle RMS value for every half-cycle and provides the maximum value of these RMS values
[60 @ 60 Hz] for every 0.5-second frame as the leakage current measurement value.

1-cycle Fundamental RMS Method

Calculates the 1-cycle fundamental RMS value for every 1-cycle and provides the maximum value of these
RMS values [30 @ 60 Hz] for every 0.5-second frame as the leakage current measurement value.

Residual Voltage Measurement

The residual voltage(Vrsd) is the RMS value calculated by summing the 3-phase voltages obtained by
sampling. This residual voltage includes the residual voltage for the harmonic component.

Accura 2300S/2350-1P3FSC User Guide Chapter 5 Measurement Description

Phase Power Measurement

Two methods are available for calculating reactive power(Q) and apparent power(S) for each phase.
1) Fundamental calculation: calculation of reactive power based on fundamental voltage/current.
2) Harmonic calculation: calculation of reactive power based on RMS voltage/current
Depending on how the reactive power is calculated, reactive power and apparent power can vary. As the
apparent power varies, the power factor(PF) also varies.

Fundamental Calculation Method

Active power for each phase is calculated by multiplying voltage and current.
1 𝑇
𝑃𝑘 = 𝑇 ∫0 𝑣𝑘 (𝑡) 𝑖𝑘 (𝑡)𝑑𝑡 where k=a,b,c,

The reactive power for each phase is calculated by delaying the phase of the voltage by 90 degrees with
respect to the fundamental frequency.
1 𝑇
𝑄𝑘 = ∫0 𝑣𝑘 (𝑡 − 𝑇4) 𝑖𝑘 (𝑡)𝑑𝑡 where k=a,b,c,
𝑇

The apparent power for each phase is calculated by the magnitude of the vector sum of the active power and
the reactive power.

𝑆𝑘 = √𝑃𝑘2 + 𝑄𝑘2 where k=a,b,c,

Harmonic Calculation Method

Active power for each phase is calculated by multiplying voltage and current.
1 𝑇
𝑃𝑘 = 𝑇 ∫0 𝑣𝑘 (𝑡) 𝑖𝑘 (𝑡)𝑑𝑡 where k=a,b,c,

Calculate the apparent power for each phase by multiplying the RMS voltage by the RMS current. The RMS
values of voltage and current contain harmonic components.

1 𝑇 1 𝑇
𝑉𝑘,𝑟𝑚𝑠 = √𝑇 ∫0 𝑣𝑘2 (𝑡) 𝑑𝑡 , 𝐼𝑘,𝑟𝑚𝑠 = √𝑇 ∫0 𝑖𝑘2 (𝑡) 𝑑𝑡 where k=a,b,c

𝑆𝑘 = 𝑉𝑘,𝑟𝑚𝑠 ∙ 𝐼𝑘,𝑟𝑚𝑠 where k=a,b,c

The magnitude of the vector difference between the apparent power and the active power is calculated to
obtaine the magnitude of the reactive power for each phase. The sign of the reactive power is the sign of the
reactive power calculated by the fundamental calculation method mentioned above.

𝑄𝑘 = ±√𝑆𝑘2 − 𝑃𝑘2 where k=a,b,c

Chapter 5 Measurement Description Accura 2300S/2350-1P3FSC User Guide

Power Factor(PF) Measurement

Power factor is calculated as the ratio of the effective power to the apparent power. The sign of the power
factor is a positive or negative value depending on the sign of the active power. If it is positive, it shows the
power receiving state. If it is negative, it shows the power delivering state.
If the apparent power is zero, the power factor cannot be calculated normally. In this case, it can be set to 1.0
or 0.0 display, and is set to default to 1.0 display.

𝑃𝑎 𝑃𝑏 𝑃𝑐
𝑃𝐹𝑎 = , 𝑃𝐹𝑏 = , 𝑃𝐹𝑐 =
𝑆𝑎 𝑆𝑏 𝑆𝑐

Sign of power factor can be removed by setting. In this case, the power receiving/delivering state cannot be
known only by the power factor value. The power factor when removing the sign is as follows.

𝑃𝑎 𝑃𝑏 𝑃𝑐
𝑃𝐹𝑎 = | |, 𝑃𝐹𝑏 = | |, 𝑃𝐹𝑐 = | |
𝑆𝑎 𝑆𝑏 𝑆𝑐

PF Phase Angle Status Measurement

The relationship between the power sign and the PF phase angle status(LEAD/LAG) is shown in the following
figure for the 4-quadrant voltage and current. When the reactive power(Q) is 0, it is neither a LEAD state nor
a LAG state.

Fig 5.7 Power Sign and PF Phase Angle Status

Q
-0.0 +0.0

PF(-) PF(+)

LEAD LAG
-1.0 +1.0
LAG LEAD P

PF(-) PF(+)

-0.0 +0.0

Note
If the current phase for voltage phase is phase leading or lagging, PF phase angle status is displayed as
LEAD or LAG status on the front display screen of Accura 2300S. If the reactive power is zero, PF phase
angle status is not displayed.

Demand Measurement
Demand
Demand time(Tdmd) is determined by the product of “Demand Sub-Interval(Tsub)” and “Number of Sub-
Interval(Nsub)”. A demand value is calculated by processing an average value for a demand time(Tdmd)
while sliding at demand sub-interval time(Tsub). Peak demand is the maximum value among the demand
values after the max/min reset, and it is initialized by max/min reset.
Demand time(Tdmd) [min] = Demand Sub-Interval(Tsub) * Number of Sub-Interval(Nsub)
Ex) In Korea[demand time=15 minute], demand sub-interval is 15-minute and number of sub-interval is 1.

Unbalance(NEMA MG1)
Line-to-neutral Voltage Unbalance
It represents the degree of voltage that deviates most from the average voltage of the three-phase voltage.
The phase voltage unbalance index is 0 even when the phase voltages are equal in magnitude and the
phases are unbalanced.

Chapter 5 Measurement Description Accura 2300S/2350-1P3FSC User Guide

Aggregation
Accura 2300S/2350 samples and processes voltage/current every 0.5-seconds and provides basic
measurement data every 0.5-second for a 0.5-second interval. Using the basic 0.5-second data, the
aggregation for longer than 0.5-second is calculated as shown in the figure below. This figure shows the
aggregation for 1-second and 5-second intervals.
Aggregation consists of a average value, a maximum/minimum value, and a time-stamp for maximum/
minimum. Average, maximum/minimum, and time-stamp are generated for each aggregation. The average
value is the average of 0.5-second data during the aggregation interval. The maximum value/minimum value
is the maximum value/minimum value among the 0.5-second data during the aggregation interval.
The time-stamp for the maximum/minimum is the difference time between the start time of the aggregation
and the occurrence time of maximum/minimum value. Therefore, the actual time for maximum/minimum can
be obtained by adding the aggregation start time and the difference time of the time-stamp.

Fig 5.11 Aggregation Process

Fixed aggregation
Accura 2300S provides six aggregations from aggregation 1 through 6 with fixed aggregation interval[1-
second, 5-second, 1-minute, 5-minute, 1-hour, 6-hour]. In fixed aggregation, the offset time for the beginning
of the aggregation interval is fixed to zero. That is, the start of the aggregation interval is fixed to start at 0
hour 0 minute 0 second. To set the offset time to a non-zero value, you should use customed aggregation.
The measurement values displayed on Accura 2300S LCD screen are 2-second aggregation values updated
every 0.5-second, and these are provided by communication through aggregation 201 setup.
Also, the Max/Min value after the user-reset displayed on Accura 2300S LCD screen is the Max/Min values
among the 0.5-second measurement values, and these are provided by communication through aggregation
202 setup.

Aggregation name Aggregation interval Buffer length Buffering time Circular index
Aggregation 0 0.5-second (base) 120 60 seconds 0-9999
Aggregation 1 1-second 32 32 seconds 0-9999
Aggregation 2 5-second 12 60 seconds 0-9999
Aggregation 3 1-minute 12 12 minutes 0-9999
Aggregation 4 5-minute 10 50 minutes 0-9999
Aggregation 5 1-hour 10 10 hours 0-9999

1. Measurement values that are displayed at Accura 2300S LCD screen: 2-second aggregation measurement value
updated every 0.5-second.
2. Max/Min measurement values that are displayed at Accura 2300S LCD screen: Max/Min values among the 0.5-second
measurement values after the user-reset.

Customed aggregation
Accura 2300S provides 5 customized aggregations 11 to 15 that allow the user to arbitrarily set the offset
time for the aggregation interval and the interval start.
If the offset setting is 0, the start of the aggregation interval corresponds to 0: 0: 0: 0. For example, if you
want to collect average data at 1 hour intervals at 10 minutes of each hour, you can select one of
aggregations 11 to 15, set the aggregation interval for this aggregation to 3600 seconds, and set the
aggregation offset time to 600 seconds.

Aggregation name Aggregation interval Buffer length Buffering time Circular index
Aggregation 11 default 3-second 22 66 seconds 0-9999
Aggregation 12 default 15-minute 12 180 minutes 0-9999
Aggregation 13 default 2-hour 10 20 hours 0-9999
Aggregation 14 default 12-hour 10 120 hours 0-9999
Aggregation 15 default 1-day 10 10 days 0-9999

Event aggregation
If activated event is detected, measurement data during 3-frame[at the time of generation/before 0.5-
second/after 0.5-second] is indexed and stored separately into “Aggregation 200” space. By collecting the
stored event aggregation data[measurement data/1-cycle RMS voltage], detailed analysis of situation
before/after the time of event generation can be done.

Aggregation name Aggregation interval Buffer length Buffering time Circular index
1
Aggregation 200 1.5-seconds 100 - 0-999
1. If activated event is detected, measurement data during 3-frame[at the time of generation/before 0.5-second/after 0.5-
second] is stored at circular buffer.

Aggregation Data Collection

If you select one aggregation, the selected aggregation data is collected through Modbus map. Because the
aggregated data is stored in the circular buffer of Accura 2300S for a certain period of time, aggregation
measurement values can be acquired more flexibly in time.
As shown in the tables above, the recent index of the aggregation can be easily found because the index is
rotated in the range of 0-9999 or 0-999, which is larger than the circular buffer size.
