Service Policy
Introduction This paragraph outlines the policies and procedures, which must be followed when
servicing the analyzer.
The service policy has been outlined to obtain a maximum degree of reliability and
a minimum of repair time.
Using the test equipment, procedures and spare parts listed in this Service Manual
ensures continuous reliability.
Exceptions from the service policy are not allowed unless Radiometer Medical
ApS has given special permission or instructions in writing beforehand.
Advanced Advanced configuration of the analyzer must only be carried out upon
Configuration recommendation from and/or in co-operation with Radiometer Medical ApS and
must only be carried out by staff with the necessary background, i.e. an IT
Specialist.
Warranty claims for parts which suffer from physical damage, unauthorized
attempted repair, or exposure to conditions other than those specified by
Radiometer Medical ApS (e.g. temperature, humidity, line voltage outside
specified limits) will not be accepted.
Software Only original software specifically intended for the AQT90 FLEX and made
available through Radiometer Medical ApS must be installed on the AQT90
FLEX.
It is not permitted to install third party software of any kind on the AQT90 FLEX.
For details, please refer to Chapter 3.
Windows XPE Microsoft will from time to time release updates for Windows XPE. We will
Hotfixes monitor the situation and release hotfixes relevant for our analyzers, when
necessary. Further instructions will be distributed with the hotfix.
Important: Only hotfixes made available through Radiometer Medical ApS must
be installed on the analyzer.
For details, please refer to Chapter 3.

AQT90 FLEX Service Manual 1. Introduction
Windows XPE To protect the analyzer against hostile attacks the Firewall included in Windows
Firewall XPE is enabled.
Only one port is open in order to enable the optional remote access using the
NetOp Guest program. NetOp uses port 6502, which is open for both TCP/IP and
UDP.
This also means that it is not possible to “ping” the analyzer via a network
connection.
Changing the setup of the firewall is considered to be an advanced configuration of
the analyzer (see above) and is thus not permitted.
Electrostatic In order to ensure the reliability and durability of the analyzer, ESD protection
Discharge precautions must always be taken when handling or exposing ESD sensitive parts.
Protection Parts such as printed circuit boards may be damaged if handled incorrectly during
storage and service. The damage is not visible, and the damaged parts may not fail
immediately but several months later.
Repair Level The repair level outlines the extent to which it is allowed to dismantle an analyzer
in the process of troubleshooting and repair. This level is limited for several
reasons such as: the need for specialized test equipment, special environmental
requirements etc., and is optimized in relation to cost of parts, time of repair etc.
The repair level is indicated in the sections “Dismantling and Replacements” and
"Spare Parts List".
Electronics
Repair of the electronics is not allowed in the field. The reason for this is that most
of the electronics are based on the surface mounted technology (SMT) which
involves a high component density and thereby a high complexity. Repair of this
kind of printed circuit boards (PCB) requires advanced troubleshooting, repair and
test facilities, which are only available at the factory. Larger PCBs are defined as
modules which may be returned to the factory for replacement under the trade-in
arrangement for modules - these PCBs are marked with “*” next to the description
in the spare parts list. As repair is not allowed in the field, detailed circuit diagrams
are not included in the Service Manual.

Documentation required that a Service Test is carried out to verify that the analyzer calibrates and
measures correctly using the appropriate quality control solution.
A Service Test Report may be generated for documentation (local file).
For details, please refer to Chapter 3.
Warning Notices Follow legal requirements and local rules for safe work practices with chemicals.
Working with blood analyzers may result in contact with blood remnants and with
harsh disinfectants. During the various procedures wear suitable protection gear
(gloves, face protection, and protective body clothing), following legal
requirements and local rules for safe work practices.
The gloves must be free of pinholes and preferably puncture resistant. Please
consult the glove manufacturer for further information.
If contaminated material comes into contact with any lesion on the body, seek
medical advice.
Laser Products The analyzer contains two laser scan engines, which is rated as a "Class 1 Laser
Product" according to IEC 60825-1, 1998-01.One laser scanner is located
underneath the display and the other is located underneath the storage wheel.
Calibration and While performing calibrations and measurements, the analyzer must be fully
Measurement assembled. This is to ensure correct performance of optical parts as well as of the
thermostatting systems.

Installation ID
Use of The installation ID is used for identifying an analyzer in all respects, e.g.:
Installation ID
• For tracing purposes (both for the entire analyzer and its modules).
• For logging service actions.
• As a reference on service work orders and service disks.
• When ordering option keys.
The installation ID is thus the key to an analyzer.

Key Concept
Protection of The analyzer series includes options, which may be enabled upon request and at a
Options certain charge.
An example is the remote support using NetOp.
The functionality of the analyzer (both the basic functions and especially the
options) is protected by a key system.
The analyzer software includes everything and the option keys ensure that
unauthorized use of option functionality is not possible.
The key system includes a hardware key (basic key) and software keys (option
keys).
The analyzer cannot operate without the basic key.
Basic Key All analyzers include a unique battery-like hardware key, denoted Basic Key,
which is situated on the Main Board.
The Basic Key includes:
• A unique installation ID (for the analyzer)
• A unique serial number (of the basic key)
• A clock
The Basic Key will allow for all options to be demonstrated for a period of 220
days after production. The period is counted down only when the analyzer is
switched on.
Option Key An Option Key is an electronic file containing information about which option to
enable.
The content of an option key is stored in the flash file system on the Main Board.
After having loaded the option key(s) it may take up to 15 minutes for the analyzer
to decrypt the key and thus make the option(s) available.
An option key is from the factory associated with a specific Basic key and can thus
only be used with this specific installation.
Replacement of In case the Main Board becomes defective and needs to be replaced then the Basic
Main Board key is to be moved from the defective Main Board to the replacement PCB.
In addition, the option keys must be re-installed.

General Notes
Introduction This paragraph provides the various error indications and suggestions for
troubleshooting the AQT90 and remedy the error.
Basic error The error types can be divided into different categories:
types
Error Type
1. Software errors
2. Hardware errors
3. Chemistry errors
4. Errors detected by Analyzing Unit (AU) software
Hardware The service programmes supplied should be used to solve hardware errors. Some
errors suggestions of possible instrument related problems are collected here. It is
important to be familiar with the AQT90 instrument and interdependence of
instrument modules when tracing instrument related problems.
For overall checking the service program “Safe positions” can give a clear picture
of which units are working correct and which units cannot return to a known
position either because of obstruction, motor failure or sensor problems.
For each major hardware component there is a corresponding service program
where unit, motors and sensors are tested.
Bad sensor signals can be caused by dust/ dirt on sensor surfaces. Clean the
sensors giving problems using a long cotton stick and / or using compressed air.
The table below shows possible errors and symptoms.

Error Types
Introduction The error reporting system in the analyzer has been designed to report in detail
what went wrong in which situation. The total amount of possible error codes and
corresponding messages exceed 6.500.
A complete list of the different error codes and corresponding messages is given in
Appendix 1 in the rear of this manual. These error codes and messages are either
posted on the display during normal operation or while operating the service
programs and/or are stored in the activity log.
In order to manage the huge amount of messages and corresponding service
actions, the messages have been grouped into different error types requiring the
same type of service actions.
Build-Up of In general the error messages displayed for an error code consist of five elements
Messages as follows (for error code 2073):
addremovecartridge_wheellock_storagewheelpositionlock_command_lock_25
Flow name Task name Task parameter Subtask Task error code
Element Function
Flow name The overall process being performed, in this case:
While adding or removing a cartridge to/from the storage
wheel.
Task name May indicate the hardware being moved, in this case the
wheel lock.
Task parameter May indicate the purpose of the task, in this case to lock
the storage wheel in a position.
Subtask May indicate the actual command being executed, in this
case “lock” (the storage wheel)
Task error code May indicate the type of error, which occurred.

AQT90 FLEX Service Manual 2. Troubleshooting
General The following procedure describes the general procedure for obtaining the service
Procedure actions for a given error code.
Step Action
1. Find the error code in the table in Appendix 1 to obtain the error type.
Make note of the elements in the error message (indicates which
hardware to troubleshoot using the service actions obtained in step 2.
2. Find the error type in the table below to obtain the service actions.
Please note that an error type has not been assigned to a number of the possible
error codes. The reason is that the vast majority of these error codes may appear
only as a result of software errors for which there are no immediate service actions.
These errors should be reported to Radiometer.

AU Error Codes
Introduction This paragraph lists the error messages reported to the data management software
(DMS) by the Analyzing Unit.
The DMS translates the AU error codes into the error codes and messages
explained in the “Error Codes” paragraph.
Further these messages are stored in xml files named AUCommunication.log on
the analyzer. These xml files are included in the Service Dump.

Virus Protection
Introduction RADIOMETER has taken a number of steps to protect the analyzer from hostile
attacks and to ensure the data integrity. These steps are described in the paragraphs
below.
Unused Services
All services not used by the analyzers application software have been disabled.
This means that services such as Remote registry and email are not available.
Windows Shell
The Windows Shell has been made unavailable to the operator. This means that
Windows programs such as the Explorer, the Control Panel, and the Windows
shortcut keys are not accessible.
For this reason it is not possible for the operator to e.g. manipulate set-up and .ini
files or run applications or script files from the command prompt

Introduction Most aspects of setting up and configuration of the analyzer are carried out using
the programs incorporated in the analyzer application software.
This is done via the setup programs described in the Operator’s Manual and the
service programs described in the Service Manual.
However, in a few situations it may be necessary to make more advanced changes
to the configuration of the analyzer. Such advanced configuration is carried out by
manipulating set-up and .ini files or by running applications or script files from the
command prompt. That is, advanced configuration is performed outside the
analyzer application software.
Advanced The possibilities of advanced configuration of the analyzer are extensive. The most
Configuration, frequent examples are:
Examples
• Configuration of the communication settings to adapt to various HIS/LIS
systems by manipulating the communication .ini files
• Configuration of the patient report layout to meet the needs of the hospital or
department using the Crystal Report application
Disclaimer RADIOMETER cannot guarantee the analyzer’s performance and data integrity in
case unauthorized persons have performed advanced configuration.
Step Action
1. Contact the local RADIOMETER IT-Specialist.
This person will implement the actual changes and verify the
analyzer’s performance and data integrity before releasing the change

AQT90 FLEX Service Manual 6. Service Programs
6. Service Programs
Overview
Introduction The purpose of the service programs is to enable the service person to check the
various parts and functions of the analyzer.
As it appears from the list of topics below the service software is divided into a
number of groups depending on the type of program.
Back versus Exit All service programs have both a “Back” and an “Exit” touch-key.
Touching “Back” causes the analyzer to return to the previous menu, that is either
to the Service screen or the Analyzing Unit Service screen.
Touching “Exit” causes the analyzer to shut down the analyzing unit service
software and to restart the AQT90 application software.
Safe Mode The AQT90 contains many moving parts, which move relative to, interact, or
engage with each other. For this reason it is desirable to be able to move all (or just
one specific part) to well defined positions.
These well-defined positions are called “safe position”. When all moving parts of
the analyzer are in their respective safe positions the analyzers is in the “safe
mode”.
The safe position for a given part may for a linear actuator e.g. be the extreme up
or down position, and for a wheel object it may e.g. be when it is in the “home”
position or “just” at a fixed mark.
For each service program relating to moving objects there is a touch-key, which
brings the part into the safe position.

objects engaging with each other). It is e.g. not possible to turn a wheel if the
wheel lock is activated.
If these conditions are not fulfilled an “Interference” is present.
Upon entry into each service program the AQT checks for interferences for the
actual group of moving objects. If interference is present a touch-key “Solve
interference” becomes available, e.g.:
The interference must be solved to enable the various touch-keys for moving the
objects.
Motor Precision Stepper motors are used for moving the various objects. Ideally, a step applied to a
motor will result in the object being moved accordingly. However, in the real
world stepper motors loose or gain steps during operation causing the objects to
move less or more than intended. That is the movement of objects relying on motor
steps alone is not precise.
Throughout the analyzer photo interrupters monitor the position of the moving
objects. This enables the software to compensate for the motor imprecision by
applying more or less steps to the motor to make objects reach certain positions.
I all service programs, which enables movement of one or more objects, a bar will
show the actual motor precision upon completion of the movement. A vertical line
will indicate the motor precision on the bar. The line will ideally be in the centre of
the bar (= no lost steps).
For each stepper motor the maximum accepted imprecision has been determined,
e.g. ±steps. These limits will be indicated at the ends of the bar.
Bottom Line The bottom line on most service screens is used for giving a message to the user
about the actual operation of the instrument. If a command is given and executed
this is shown in this line. When a function or command is OK this is shown in
green text. If an error occurs during a command the font in this line changes to red
to indicate a problem.

Overview, Continued
Using the “Step” The following applies for service programs in which it is possible to move mechanical objects:
Keys When using the Step keys, e.g. "Step Up", "Step CW", and "Step Forward", the object is moved away from a well-
defined position, e.g. the Safe position, to a position, which cannot be detected by the position sensors, i.e. the
exact location is unknown.
When attempting to move the object to a well-defined position afterwards the software cannot determine whether
to move the object e.g. up or down to reach the selected position.
In order not to damage the hardware the object is therefore not moved.
Error code 39 is displayed to inform the operator.
Therefore, always touch "Safe" to bring the object back into a well-defined and
detectable position before attempting to move it to another well-defined position.

Data Fields The graphics below are two examples of the data, which may be displayed in the
empty white data field shown in the screen layout above.
During this measurement the photo count is high (>550.000) requiring fewer
cycles (=1000) to obtain a precise result.
After excitation the europium emits light with a decreasing intensity as shown. The
time constant for the decay, Tau, must be in the range [800 ; 1200] for
measurements on the reference cup.

AQT90 FLEX Service Manual 6. Service Programs
Measuring, Continued
During this measurement the photo count is very low (<20 As opposed to >550000
above) requiring a large number of cycles (=3000) to obtain a precise result.
The flashlight is off (low integrator value).
The output is constant (except for noise).
Since there is no decay, Tau should in principle be indefinite, which it is here
(“NaN” means “Not a Number”). However, the low number of counts and the
noise decreases the accuracy of the calculation, so almost any number could appear
here.
The table below explains the data fields on the screen.
Field Explanation
RawPhotoCount Equal to the sum of the counts obtained in the 16 bins (see
description below)
Photocount RawPhotoCount corrected for the dark measurement and
fluctuations of the flash light intensity.
Temperature The temperature measured on the Photo Multiplier PCB.
Integrator A measure of the actual intensity of the flash excitation
pulse during the measurement. The value is used in the
calculation of the corrected PhotoCount.
Cycles The number of flash repetition used for measurements.
Range: [0 ; 10000]
Typical value: 1600
The number of cycles is determined on basis of a factory
sensitivity calibration of the optical unit.
Premeasure The delay in microseconds between the flash light pulse
and the beginning of the counting period.
Factory set value: 400

Data Fields
(continued) Field Explanation
Binduration The duration in microseconds of each of the 16 "bins" in
the counting period.
Factory set value: 25
Post delay The delay between the end of the counting period and the
next flash pulse.

Voltage The high voltage applied to the photomultiplier.
Factory set value: 230
Discriminator The level for discriminating between electrical noise and
photon pulses.
Factory set value: 127
Flash adjust The level of the flash intensity.
Factory set value: 255
Tau The time constant of the (exponential) decay of the
measured signal.
A large Tau indicates a slow decay and vice versa.
At low signal level the calculation of Tau becomes
unreliable (seen as noisy signals and low counts, e.g.
during the dark measurement).
Factory Integrator Intensity of the flash excitation pulse as measured during
factory calibration.

When touching Calibrate the analyzer will calibrate the sensor array as
follows:
1. While turning the incubator wheel the power (PWM) for the LEDs is
increased from 0 until each sensor can indicate “0” and “1” and the
array can detect all 32 positions.
This is denoted “Minimum power level”.
2. While turning the incubator wheel the power (PWM) for the LEDs is
decreased from full power until each sensor may indicate “0” and “1”
and the array can detect all 32 positions.
This is done twice, first with the wheel turning CW and then CCW.
The least of the two values obtained is denoted “Maximum power
level”.
3. The average of the minimum and maximum power levels is then
calculated.
The result is denoted “Optimal power level”, which is then used
during the operation of the analyzer.
4. The difference between the optimal and the minimum power levels
(optimal minus minimum) is then calculated.
The result is denoted “Margin”.
Accept Criteria:
Margin > 800.
Typically, Margin > 1000.
The result of the calibration is shown in the bottom line on the screen
in text – the actual values are not shown.

Overview
Part Function
Cup Cartridge A cup cartridge contains 16 test cups placed in two rows.
All 16 cups in one cartridge is for the same specific test.
Storage Wheel The storage wheel may store up to 15 Cup cartridges.
The operator may load different types of cartridges into the
storage wheel to allow for different types of tests.
A reflective sensor detects that a cartridge is loaded and
causes the analyzer to pull the cartridge completely in and
lock it into position (Cartridge Lock).
A barcode reader placed below the storage wheel (in the
bottom chassis) reads the barcode on the cartridge to
determine the type of cartridge.
Moving a cup from The storage wheel turns to position a row of cups at the
storage wheel to punch-down area.
incubator wheel
A stepper motor (Cartridge Tray motor) positions a
specific cup at the punch-down position.
The incubator wheel turns to move an empty cup well to
the punch-down position.
Both wheels are locked (wheel lock).
A linear actuator punches the selected cup from the cup
cartridge in the storage wheel down into the empty well in
the incubator wheel.
A reflective sensor detects that the cup has been pushed
down.
Incubator Wheel The incubator wheel may contain up to 32 test cups being
prepared for measurement.
While in the incubator wheel the samples are heated to
37.0ºC ± 0.5ºC.
Further the cups are exposed to mechanical exsiccation to
speed up the mixing of the dyes and thus the chemical
process.

Cup Cartridge A drawing below shows the numbering of the 16 cups. When a cartridge has been
loaded into the storage wheel cup 0 is located above cup detector to check is the
cartridge is new.
Cartridge Lock When inserting a cartridge the cartridge lock is activated. The cartridge lock
Control “graps” the cartridge while inserting it and pulls it completely into position where
the storage wheel may turn.
After use the operator may unlock the cartridge, which will then be partly ejected.
Cartridge Tray The cartridge tray motor positions a specific cartridge cup from the storage wheel
Control over the punch down hole to move the cup to the incubator wheel.
A stepper motor and a toothed bar, which engages with the cartridge, move the
cartridge back and fourth.
The system has eight positions (one for each cup in a row positioned at punch
down) and a home position (cartridge pushed completely into the storage wheel).
One photo detector detects the eight cup positions and a second detects the home
position.
Storage Wheel The storage wheel is driven by a stepper motor, which has a rubber wheel attached
Control to its axle. The rubber wheel is pressed (spring loaded) against the perimeter of the
wheel.
The wheel has 30 slits (one for each row of cups, that is, two slits per cartridge).
One photo detector detects the exact position of a slit (and thereby a row of cups).
The barcode reader is used for identifying the type of cartridge, which is at the slit.
Cup Puncher A stepper motor moves the cup puncher vertically to move a cup from the storage
Control wheel to the incubator wheel (punch down).
A photo interrupter detects whether the cup puncher is home (up) or away from
home.

Incubator The incubator wheel is driven by a stepper motor, which has a rubber wheel
Wheel Control attached to its axle. The rubber wheel is pressed (spring loaded) against the
perimeter of the wheel.
The wheel has 32 slits, that is, one for each of the cup position. One photo detector
detects the exact position of a slit (and thereby a cup).
Further, the perimeter of the incubator wheel is encoded in such a way that the
output of a reflective sensor array (five sensors) indicates which of the 32 cup
positions is at the photo detector.
Wheel Lock The wheel lock is used for locking the storage wheel into a certain position prior to
Control loading a new cartridge or ejecting a used one.
The wheel lock may further lock both the storage wheel and the incubator wheel in
certain positions prior to moving a cup from the storage wheel to the incubator
wheel.
A stepper motor moves the wheel lock and three photo interrupters monitor its
position.
Cup Lifter A stepper motor moves the cup lifter to move a cup from the incubator wheel to
Control the process wheel.
Two photo interrupters monitors the position of the cup lifter – one for detecting
the home position, and one for detecting the away from home position.
Process Wheel The process wheel is driven directly by a stepper motor. The motor driver locks the
Control wheel in specific positions electronically (hold).
The wheel has 15 slits (one for each cup position). Please note, however, that only
every third position (5 positions) is actually used for cups with samples.
The reference cup (used for check of the optical system prior to a measurement)
occupies one position. The fixed empty cup used during refill of the system and
wash of the wash unit itself occupies another position.
One photo detector detects the exact position of a slit (and thereby a cup position).
A second photo detector is used for detecting the home position for the wheel. The
extra home position slit is placed in such a way that only when the wheel is in the
home position then both detectors are at a slit at the same time.

Cup Puncher The cup puncher, which ejects a used cup down into the waste compartment in the
Control Reagent Pack is mounted on the optical unit. The puncher is thus driven by the
same stepper motor, which moves the optical and process units up and down.
The cup puncher travels down and up in the remaining 8 positions of the process
wheel during the cup wash and cup dry processes.
A photo interrupter is used for detecting the units are at the up or down position.
Reagent Pack When inserting a new reagent pack into its slot the reagent pack lock automatically
Control locks it into position.
A stepper motor unlocks the reagent pack after use after which the pack jumps
slightly out.
A photo interrupter detects the home position of the lock.

Pipetting Unit
Introduction This paragraph includes a drawing of the pipetting unit as well as a description of
the major functions performed by the unit.
Overall The overall function of the pipetting unit is to position the needle to enable specific
Function actions (e.g. to dispense assay buffer into a cup, pierce sampler cap and aspirate
sample, dispense sample into a cup, or wash of needle)
The pipette unit works closely together with the interlock, which is used for
locking the needle direction, and the inlet wheel lock, which locks the inlet wheel
prior to inserting a sampler and piercing the cap. These systems are also described
in this paragraph.
Drawing
Interlock
Needle
Needle Two stepper motors may move the needle in two ways:
Movement
• It may rotate to point its end in different directions, e.g. vertically down when
liquid is dispensed into a cup
• It may move along its longitudinal axis, to e.g. pierce a test tube cap and enter
into the sample
To position the needle to e.g. aspirate a sample the analyzer:
1. Retracts the needle to prevent the needle from being damaged during
rotation.
2. Unlocks the interlock, which fixes the rotating system.
3. Rotates the needle to point at the test tube in the inlet wheel.

Process Unit
Introduction This paragraph includes a drawing of the process unit as well as a description of
the major functions performed by the unit.
Overall The overall function of the unit, which is mounted on the Optical Unit, is to:
Function
• Wash the cup using assay buffer to remove excess dye. This is carried out when
the incubation has completed.
• Dry the cup using heated air to prepare it for the actual measurement by the
optical unit. This is carried out when the washing has completed.
Air for the cup dryer is supplied by a separate compressor, which is mounted away
from the process unit on the analyzer chassis.
Air Supply The air used for drying the cups is supplied from a compressor, which draws air
from the inside of the analyzer. The compressor supplies approximately 4L/min.

(continued) Beam Splitter The beam splitter has the property of to reflecting the short
wavelength of the excitation light (only a small amount
goes through the beam splitter to the photo diode).
Further it is transparent for the long wavelength of the
phosphorescence light.
Photo diode A photo diode located on the Monitor PCB measures the
intensity of the flashlight and is used for normalizing the
output of the optical unit, that is, to compensate for
variations in the output of the flashlight.
Cup The cup contains a certain amount of europium chelate
depending on the concentration of the parameter to be
measured
Emission light The light emitted passes through a narrow band filter
filter (width of 8nm) at 616 nm.
Photomultiplier The photomultiplier located on the PMT PCB counts the
(PMT) number of photons emitted during the measuring time.
Measuring Each time the flashlight flashes the system measures the number of photons
Cycle emitted from europium chelate in the cup. Since the flash rate is 500Hz a single
measurement takes 2mS. To increase the accuracy of the result is averaged over
1,000 single measurements, resulting in a total measuring time of 2 seconds.
To further increase the accuracy, the analyzer performs three measurements for
each sample:
Number Function
1 The dark count is measured.
That is, the analyzer measures the phosphorescence
generated by the system itself (excitation source off).
2 The reference count is measured.
That is, the analyzer measures the phosphorescence of a
reference cup located permanently in the process wheel.
The phosphorescence of the reference cup is well defined.
3 The sample is measured.

Wet Section
Introduction This paragraph includes a simplified block diagram of the wet section as well as a
description of the major functions performed by the module.
Function of The table below explains the function of the various components in the wet
Parts section.
Part Function
Reagent Pack The reagent pack contains two pouches with assay buffer
used for diluting the sample and washing the flow path and
cups.
Further, it contains a waste compartment including a
hydrophobic filter (enables air to escape and prevents liquid
spillage)
Finally, it contains a compartment for used cups.
Junction/Air Trap Includes tree junctions, which connect to the pouches of the
Unit reagent pack when pushed into position.
An air trap prevents air bubbles to enter into the wet section.
P1 Pumps assay buffer (from reagent pack) into the fixed cup
(in process wheel) during the refill process.
Further, it pumps assay buffer (from reagent pack) into the
cup used for a sample measurement during the cup wash
process.
P2 Removes assay buffer from the cup during the refill and cup
wash processes and pumps it into waste (in reagent pack).
A filter prevents particles from settling in the junction
valves in the Reagent Pack.

(continued) LS1 and LS3 These liquid sensors are placed such that the volume
between them is well defined.
They are used both for determining that the cup has been
emptied and for measuring the exact volume removed from
the cup, EQC.
Fixed Cup The fixed cup in the process wheel is used during the refill
process
Cavro pump This pump includes a 250 uL syringe used for aspiration of
accurate amounts of liquid.
It aspirates sample from the sampler and dispenses it into
the cup.
Further, it aspirates assay buffer via V2 and dispenses it into
the cup.
It includes a T-valve, which determines the flow path at the
cavro pump. The valve has three positions for:
• Aspirate assay buffer from reagent pack
• Aspirate sample through the needle or dispense sample or
assay buffer through the needle
• Pass through bypassing the cavro pump
Needle The needle may be rotated to different positions/directions
to aspirate sample from the sampler, dispensing sample or
assay buffer into the cup, washing the needle, and for
replacement of the needle.
V2 The valve opens for flow of assay buffer when the cavro
pump aspirates an accurate amount.
P3 Pumps assay buffer or air via V1 past the cavro pump and
out through the aspiration tube during the needle wash
cycle.
V1 This valve determines whether P3 pumps assay buffer or air
segments during the rinse cycle. The air intake includes a
dust filter.
P4 Removes assay buffer from the needle wash unit and pumps
it into waste.
A filter prevents particles from settling in the junction
valves in the Reagent Pack.

8. Spare Parts
Overview
Introduction All spare parts available for the analyzer are listed in this chapter, which also
includes photos of the modules to ease the identification of the parts.
The spare parts list specifies to which extend the analyzer may be serviced, as only
the parts listed may be replaced.
When ordering spare parts always include the part number and the description.
Trade-In Parts The parts marked with an asterisk (*) must be returned to Radiometer Medical
ApS for replacement. This is to ensure the highest possible reliability of the
repaired part.
They will be replaced in accordance with the Trade-in Arrangement for Modules,
with the exception of modules, which have been damaged during attempted repair.
Important The complete modules, such as the Basic Unit, Cup Transport Module, Process
Unit, Inlet/Pipette Module, Wet Section, and Bottom Chassis Unit are not
considered to be spare parts and cannot be returned to RADIOMETER for credit,
repair or replacement. In case of a malfunction in these modules, troubleshoot the
module and then replace the defective sub-part as listed in the spare parts chapter.
When installing a complete module (in case of an upgrade of the analyzer or a
temporary fix of a problem) and when exchanging any of the parts which are
recognized by the Parts List service program the part number and serial number for
the new part should be entered into the Parts List service program. Please refer
Chapter 7 for information about which parts are recognized.
