Course Objectives:
1. To understand the various types of data, apply and evaluate the principles of data
visualization in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)
2. Acquire skills to apply visualization techniques to a problem and its associated dataset
3. To create interactive visualization for better insight using various visualization tools

Expected Course Outcome:


1. Get a grasp of Industry standard internet of things
2. Understand control, operational and application domain of reference architecture.
3. Learn the nuances of low power network design
4. Explore the architecture of essential web services
5. Relate the visualization towards the problem based on the dataset to analyze and bring
out valuable insight on large dataset which suits various application based on industrial
interne to things
6. Design visualization dashboard to support the decision making on large scale data.
7. Demonstrate the analysis of large dataset using various visualization techniques and
sensor tools

Module:1 Introduction to Industrial IoT (IIoT) 6 hours


Introduction, Key IIOT technologies, Catalysts and precursors of IIoT, Innovation and the
IIoT, Applications of IIoT Examples: Healthcare, Oil and Gas Industry, Logistics and the
Industrial Internet, Retail applications, IoT innovations and design methodologies

Module:2 IIoT Reference Architecture 6 hours


Industrial Internet Architecture Framework (IIAF): Control domain, operational domain and
application domain, Three tier topology, Design of low power device network, legacy industrial
protocols, Bluetooth, Zigbee IP, Z-wave, Wi-Fi backscatter in IIoT design.

Module:3 Software Design 6 hours


Middleware Software patterns: Publish patterns; subscribe patterns, MQTT, XMPP, AMQP,
DDS, Delay tolerant networks, Design of Web services for IIoT: SOAP, REST, HTTP Verb
binding.

Module:4 Introduction to Data Visualization, 6 hours


Visualization Technique and Visual
analytics
Overview of data visualization-Data abstraction-Task abstract in Scalar and point techniques,
vector visualization techniques multidimensional techniques visualizing cluster Networks
and Trees Heat Map - Map Color and Other Channels- Manipulate View Visual Attributes

Introduction to various data visualization tools - Visualization using R Time- Series data

Creations
Integration of visualization tools with Hadoop, Dashboard creation using visualization tools
for the use cases: Finance-marketing-insurance-healthcare etc.,

Module:7 Digital Sensors and Smart Sensors 7 Hours


System Design
Practical realizations of different smart sensors systems and digital sensors: optical sensors
systems with color-to-digital and light-to-digital converters; a DAQ system for temperature
sensors; accelerometers based systems; rotation speed digital sensors and systems; digital
humidity sensors and data loggers; temperature and humidity multi sensors system.
