Zero Conditionals
Zero Conditionals (general truth)- conditional sentences of this type are always 100%
true, they often describe the laws of nature, well-known truths / facts.
If -clause Main clause The likelihood of an action

Present Simple Present Simple (Indefinite) 100%

Примеры:If temperature is zero, water freezes. – Если температура равна нулю, вода
замерзает. (100% истина)
If you heat water, it boils. – Если вы нагреете воду, она закипит. (100% истина)

First Conditionals
First Conditionals (real possibility) – type I conditional sentences express real, possible situations
in the present or future. The probability that the action will take place is very high.
If -clause Main clause The likelihood of an action

Present Simple Future Simple + infinitive without to 50-75%

Примеры:If it rains, I will not go to the park. – Если пойдет дождь, я не пойду в парк. (я не знаю,
пойдет дождь или не пойдет)
If I see Mary, I will tell her. – Если я увижу Мери, я скажу ей. (я могу ее увидеть, а могу и не
увидеть)

Second Conditionals
Second Conditionals (imagine situations) – type II conditional sentences express actions, the
performance of which in certain situations in the present and in the future turns out to be unrealistic.
The probability that the action will occur is zero.

Past Simple would + infinitive without to 0%

Примеры:If I had a lot of money, I would travel round the world. – Если бы у меня было много
денег, я бы путешествовал по всему свету. (но у меня нет таких денег)
If I were you, I would drive more carefully in the rain. – Если бы я был на твоем месте, я бы вел
машину аккуратнее во время дождя. (но я не на твоем месте)

Third Conditionals
Third Conditionals (lost chances) – Type III conditional sentences express imaginary situations
related to the past. The probability that the action will occur is zero.

Perfect participle
Примеры:If I wouldn’t drink so much, I wouldn’t have got a fine – Если бы я не пил так много,
меня бы не оштрафовали. (утраченные возможности, я много пил в прошлом, и поэтому меня
оштрафовали);
 If the weather had been nice 2 days ago, I would have gone to the beach. – Если бы погода была
хорошей 2 дня назад, я бы пошел на пляж. (но погода была плохая, и я не пошел на пляж);
If I had gone to Egypt, I could have learned Arabic. – Если бы я поехал в Египет, я бы мог
выучить арабский язык.

Mixed conditional sentences

Mixed conditional sentences in English are of two types, most often type II and III
conditional sentences are used to form mixed conditional sentences.

1. Mixing of II and III types of conditional sentences.

In this case, the subordinate clause refers to the present tense, and the main
clause refers to the past and describes a situation that has already occurred.

Примеры:If I were smarter, I would have graduated from Stanford. – Если бы я был

сообразительнее, я бы закончил Стэнфорд.

2. Mixing of III and II types of conditional sentences.

In this case, the subordinate clause refers to the past, and the main clause to the
present.

Примеры:If my father hadn’t lost his keys, we wouldn’t have to wait until he finds them. – Если
бы мой отец не потерял ключи, нам не пришлось бы ждать, пока он найдет их.

Mixed Conditionals.

Mixed Conditionals – combination of different types of conditional sentences

 Mixed Conditionals : If + Type 2 (Past Simple) + Type 3 (would have + V3)

 Mixed Conditionals : If + Type 3 (Past Perfect) + Type 2 (would + V)

If I had married him, I would live happy now. – Если бы я вышла  за него замуж, я
бы жила счастливо сейчас.
If you were more attentive, you would have passed the exam yesterday. – Если бы
ты был более внимательным, ты бы сдал экзамен вчера.
If you had taken the medicine, you would feel much better now. – Если бы ты
выпил лекарство, ты бы чувствовал себя лучше сейчас.
