NARRATIVE REPORT ON CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM

MODULE 8: I PLAN TO SUCCEED

“ If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail…… “

A classic saying was once a stepping stone as I discussed and delivered the last module of
the program. Apart from the enthusiasm that I had felt because I could take part of their career
planning and goal setting, it had been a great journey of walking with these young students who
just started to build their own house of goals. Firstly, I had conducted first a quick survey as to
the importance of the program and how did the program give them a clearer horizon towards
their goal.
The module focused on the importance of planning their future and proper time
management. It was in the module to set time frame in every endeavour to avoid duplication and
experienced procrastination due to overlapping of activities. With this, I had introduced to them
Dexter who wishes to improve his academic performance and has to seek advice from Daisy who
has a very good study habit. Anent to this, I also gave them a real experiences which could
greatly helped them improved themselves and armed them with enough knowledge, skills and
attitude for their chosen field. I had let them get inspiration form my dream of chasing my
ultimate goal in life. Giving them much insight on how I struggled prior to what I become now
and how did I went through such.
The module also contained an explicit discussion on target and goal setting which have
been encapsulated into SMART ones. I had made sure that each criterion shall give so much
emphasis because a missing piece could not make them holistic.
In my humble understanding, I gave much emphasis that goal shall be SPECIFIC. Being
specific gave them direction. They don’t need to weigh things accordingly because goals had
been set already to simpler one. It also gave them a clear roadmap. More so, their goal has to be
MEASURABLE, ATTAINABLE and TIME BOUNDED. It shall test themselves giving so
much importance on the resources and time so as to utilize these to an equally important apart
from their goal. I had let them value time and resources which are so precious. And lastly,
participants were asked as to the missing profession on their locality. I had let them understand
that goal setting does not mean, their interest only matters but also the demand of their locality
also. Much that their profession shall give them decent earnings and living, it would also be a
challenge for them serve the people and their fellows.
Lastly, the session was ended with crafting of their long term, midterm and short term
goal. More so, they were also asked to craft a timeline of achieving their goal and poem
describing who they are after a period of time.
