Psychological Approach

“Dozen Pairs of Shoes” tackles about the overflowing and unconditional love of parents to their
children. The behaviors of the characters in the story show how strong a family can be despite of the
challenges in life. The father became an excellent example to his daughters in being polite,
understanding, and loving person. Nanay provides strength to her two daughters and nurture them both
equally with love and care. Karina supports her sister all throughout their journey and became the best
sister for Susie. All of them became the feet of Susie in her life as disabled person.

Karina and Susie are both strong and optimistic as they handle their situation like mature ones.
They both became polite and kind as an influenced by their father. Karina creates wonderful
surroundings with her sister even though most of the love of her parents is transferred to Susie. Karina
also shows that she is humble every time she envied by her classmates. She is also an achiever and a
selfless person when she voluntarily pursues ballet for the dream of her father. Karina is also artistic
with the use of her hands like painting and drawing. On the other hand, because of her family, Susie
became strong and jolly despite of her condition and differences. She is also imaginative like her father
when she dreamed about all the shoes that she can ware and all the details of it is written on her mind.
Though she has no feet, they found a way to play, and she even became a winner on their games. Both
Karina and Susie are like jewels that are pure inside and shinning outside.

Nanay and Tatay are both supportive and very responsible as parents. They became a very
strong foundation to their daughters, and they nurture both of their kids with all their love and care.
Nanay stood straight even though she is the cause of her daughter’s condition. She also has a very long
patience and understanding when she stopped her husband in doing violent action towards bad people
who made fun of their daughter, Susie. Thus, Tatay provides overflowing love to both of his daughters
like when he made shoes for Karina every occasion they have and secretly made Susie shoes even
though he knows that she will never going to ware them. Though he is quiet, he created wonderful
shoes that is admired by many with its style and creativity. Both Nanay and Tatay creates the best family
which Karina and Susie deserves.

Truly, there is no true perfect life and the only thing that is perfect are the moments. Life will
always be short and unsatisfactory. Hence, we should find a way to enjoy life to the fullest and creates
perfect and unforgettable memories which they can treasure until their very last breath.
