USELF (ACT WEEK 1)

Reflection on Different View of Self

Socrates view of self through self-knowledge, according to Socrates “The examined life
is not worth living”. It is mean that to become the best of our self we must take the
existing challenge of our life. Self-knowledge can analyze the true nature of yourself and
the values that are guiding to our life. In fact that real self is not even our body,
according to Socrates; the state of your inner being determines the quality of life. It is
means that the reality of self is unseen but it can see through our virtue.

In Socrates view of self, my thinking is we must step outside to our comfort zone in
order to improve our self. I feel that it is the way to expand our life and gain more self-
knowledge to see the reality of our self. Through that we much know about our self and
identified what our weakness and strength. I agree that our real self is not our body,
because the real self is our soul, the soul can give identity the self or it can recognize
our true human being. I disagree that self-knowledge can give true nature of our self
because sometimes we need others in order to build the best of our self.

In Socrates view of self I learned that I will not build or identify myself when I am in my
comfort zone and I must take the challenge of life to bring the best version of myself. I
must accept that if we are exist in life, we must live above the beast of life. In my
personal view I also realized that challenge is inevitable we must live through it and
learn from it. It can give impact to my identity through that if life hits bad just do well of
yourself and others because the state of our inner being determines the quality of life.

In myself, I always remember that life is full of ups and down. It is the way to see the
true nature of myself. Take the challenge and always remember that if I fail, I will learn
and if I win I will be thankful. I will also set my mentality that comfort zone is danger
zone. I must build myself to have a moral excellence in life because according to
Socrates, “the virtuous man is a happy man”.
