As an African American young woman in a predominantly white neighborhood and school, it is

hard to find where I fit in. I searched everywhere for a place where I could feel welcomed and
accepted for who I am. After a long search, I found theatre, and theatre connected me with
people who accepted me for who I am and everything I have been through. These friends
introduced me to True Colors. True Colors is a student-led a cappella group predominantly for
people of color. I joined the group my sophomore year and now I’m a co-leader of the group. I
have fallen in love with this group and the people in it. This group really helped me feel
accepted and I hope that it continues to do that when I graduate.
