Landicho – Relevance

The message delivered to the young women of Malolos focused on key points such as the abuse of the
friars in exercising their spiritual authority bestowed upon them by the church, characteristics Filipino
mothers must possess, duties and obligations of Filipino mothers to their children, functions and errands
of a wife to her husband, and guidance to young women on their lifetime partner.

In the relevance, the abuse of the friars is like the abuse of power of police. Power is described as a
political or national strength; this power might manifest itself as force, possession, or influence over
another's authority. Power is not always a negative thing, with numerous instances of power having
positive outcomes. A problem arises when authority is combined with abuse. Many persons in positions
of authority use manipulative strategies to abuse their position. Police are obligated to uphold human
rights in the use of their powers; this part of the relationship is the most frequently discussed because
the basic objective of human rights is to protect individuals against state abuse of power. But, most of
the police individual has their own doings, they manipulate their powers, they’re using they power to
get what they want which is an abuse of power.
